agreed, I like those. good exposure on the 3 people shot too. the other 2 could use more contrast but they are not bad either.

thank you. I added more contrast to the other two and they do look much better. it makes the background less distracting. thanks for the advice. I like the one of the tattoo girl's back because it looks like she is superimposed in the shot.

The pro photogs where I work use a clear lightsphere, always pointed straight up. They've been using them for years and seem to like it.

lightspheres work great for event photography, they are just a bit large and depending on the condition / type of your flash can even be too heavy for your flash. this was my experience a few years ago, I don't know what models they have now, they may have smaller / lighter ones.

neat site I started using this week, the gist is you upload only your absolute best work. you can do a free account and I think there is some limit of like 10 photos per day or per week or something of that nature. I like the ratings and comments system, it is a refreshing change from flickr.

what do you mean "event"? What if, suppose... the ceiling is really high, or there aren't any ceilings?

I'm thinking about going down to be near the arena to night and take pics of the Canucks' fans... I have a feeling they are going to wrap up this series tonight. Granville street is going to go off tonight. Would I use a bounce card? a lightsphere? or neither?

the ceiling is not too important with a lightsphere because it diffuses and spreads the light forward.

lightsphere will give you better result than a bouncecard, regardless of conditions / environment. from what I have seen.

alright cool... I ended up buying someone's used ("like new") Gary Fong Collapsible lightsphere locally off CL, if it looks like the Canucks are going to in tonight, I might just go out with my gear (that is... as long as it's not raining).

iirc one of the issues with those gary fong light spheres is that they waste alot of light because it spreads the light in all directions.

something like that

That's true of any omni-directional diffuser though. And it's not always a negative.

^ agreed, and I think its common to 'waste' light with flashes, if you want to do any kind of modifiers. for the kind of dramatic shots I like, its a given Im gonna be wasting flash light.

I rather enjoyed using it last night at the HUGE gathering for the Canucks' game... the only thing that bothers me is it looks kinda like this:

Speaking of expensive high end toys...
Hasselblad's 200-megapixel camera: $45,000

This thing costs more than my Audi.

^ I would wait a bit. I hear they are releasing their 210 MP model soon...

It actually takes 6 50 MP pictures and combines them, so it's only useful for static subjects.

I think that's almost a Ford vs. Chevy question. I'd definitely give both a try (both offer a trial download) and see which one you like more. Aperture is more tied into the Apple suite (e.g. iPhoto, Apple TV). However I think most people here use Lightroom, including me.
