Nice, but if i were you I'd get 2 drives and run them in raid 1 so there is some redundancy, so you have less of a chance of losing stuff.

I just listened to an interesting podcast by Brooks Jensen, editor of Lenswork magazine. Say you have your body of work. You're happy with it. Everyone you've ever shown it to likes it. Generally speaking, it's all good.

Now with that in mind, what is the biggest obstacle preventing you from getting that work out there? By "out there" I don't mean exposure to other people. I mean getting your images to a final destination. It doesn't matter if that destination is the walls of your own home or office, gifts to family and friends, or sales to a paying customer. What is the largest obstacle preventing any of these things from happening?

The answer is so stupidly simple it almost begs a . The more you think about it though, the more you realize it really is a genuine problem. Anyone care to take a guess?

Framing costs too damn much.

How many images are you going to put up on your own walls, give to family, or expect people to buy from you when it costs as much (if not 2x as much) as your print itself to get it framed decently?

Sure there's foam board mounting and so forth, but be honest. Even the most simple framed presentation of a print tends to look nicer than almost any other method or presentation.

So what's the solution? Damn if I know. I just thought is was a really interesting point that you hardly ever hear being discussed.

It's so true. Framing costs are beyond evil.

It's one of the reasons I'm so intrigued by the metal prints. I like canvas wraps, but I like the clean look of the metal more. Like you said, not as classic as a nicely framed, matted print, but still a nice new alternative.

Metal and canvas are, of course, nice alternatives. The thing they require though is faith in your own image prep and faith in the lab. It's one thing to eff up a $25 print...

well I think the reason its not talked about much is because its a very personal thing. I mean, everyone's view of money is subjective and relative. And, specific discussions can cause people to come off as snobby, cheap, spoiled, and/or any other number of such negative characteristics most people would rather not talk about.

My buddy spent over $500 just to frame a couple newspapers article and souvenirs from our trip to the NFL HOF. It would have been 1k if he hadn't used a coupon.

I have a blank 16x11 or so expandable album with 20 blank pages in it which I've been planning to fill with my best Chicago shots... for over 2 years now...

I also want to compile a club shots book on blurb or something.. that is mostly laziness (would take some good effort to gather everything) - the money would be the next factor but I don't think those books cost (relatively) too much..

It's a shame because (quality) printed material looks 100x better than on the computer. The first time I saw that book cover with the Grant Park panorama on it I couldn't help but - the level of detail going back into the far end of the picture was amazing. The file I sent them was 5600px wide or so. Anyways one day I will do the Chicago compilation.

I really liked how he turned this picture of a cottage he found on google and turned it into a painting and then went and printed it on canvas.. Looked just like a painting you'd buy

also turned any picture into a pencil sketch.


Their noise reduction software looks good but the guy was previewing so fast I couldn't get a gooood look.

i also checked out the booth for the eye-fi cards.

sux that they dont have any CF card versions, but my 1D does take CF.

i thought its pretty cool that as soon as you get within your wireless network it auto transfers them to your computer.

also with the pro version you can do transfer via adhoc so you could be away from home and have a laptop on you and you can transfer w/o a router.

contemplating the Olympus EP-1... saw some sample images and it looks great... do any of you wise individuals have anything to say about it?

looks like Im gonna wait for the E-PL1, supposed to come out March-April. considerably less expensive and it has a flash.. I could see needing that here and there, and I'm not too keen on the mounted unit.

EP-1 was slow to AF, I think they have improved, or at least that's what I'm reading about the PL-1. Will have to wait and see.
