Seems to be the case. I just tried it again and the SLICKDEALS coupon code is giving 20% off now. Oh well, thanks for the heads up anyways! Hopefully I'll catch the next one.

The kicker should thus be a bit brighter than the fill light, but not so bright it over fills the off side of the face; the placement and brightness of a kicker is a matter of taste and technique. Many portraitists choose not to use a kicker and settle for the three main lights of the standard plans. It may thus also be considered an acccessory light (see below).

From what I know, this is an example of one in use. The right image is with the kicker or rim.

Sorry, another noob question here, someone commented on one of my photos in Flickr and asked about the lens (Sigma 50mm f1.4 HSM) "...Is this the typical degree of focus you're getting from this lens?"

What does that mean?

It's just how big your dof is. As in how big of an area parallel to the camera will be in focus.

Oh okay. Yeah I know what DOF is, I've just never heard it phrased that way ("degree of focus")

I shot an acquaintance's (friend of a friend's) wedding friends and family dinner earlier in the year for a flat fee which covered my time and work there, and delivering web-size photos. Now they are asking for full-res files because they are making a photo book. How should I proceed? I mean, sure I could just hand over the files, but I just kind of feel weird about it. I mean, generally speaking, I don't give people the full-res files..

well full-res would be the size out of the camera. but you can also do medium res, which is enough for printing in a book.

I think I'll just send the files

if I could have it my way though, I'd charge some more money for sending the full-res.

You gave them what the contract said, if they want more, you need to charge more.

well it wasn't a wedding - it was just a friends and family dinner, as a supplement to their wedding (that already happened). And I also did some photos of the couple. And, they are acquaintances I met through other friends so it's not the kind of situation where a friend is asking me for a favor.

Thanks for the advice - btw these people are WELL off, I mean F-car etc. but unfortunately many times those kind of people are cheap with photos...

Lol so one of my coworkers just bought a 4/3 camera and started asking me all these questions like what's f-stop, focal length and all this and that about basic photography.

So I just lent her my understanding exposure book

She told me she only got it because it's one step closer to a DSLR, and then asked me what a DSLR was
