Tell that to Acura regarding the previous RL...

It came out as a '96 model, had a significant refresh in '99, a moderate refresh in '02 and was refined for the last year.. '04.

This has been confirmed for several weeks. An Acura announcement will come during the press preview Feb. 6-7 and most believe it to be the RL's MMC. It is said to be the most extensive and expensive MMC ever undertaken in Honda history.

Hope it works!

In the meantime, I am enjoying my A-Spec'd RL. Fun to drive, luxurious, me like it, don't care that others think it's bland. The only thing it needs is a blown 6.0 liter V8 ala CTS-V, and better stock wheels.

You obviously haven't tried SH-AWD. You have to experience it to understand why the type of torque vectoring used by Honda is the next big thing at Acura. Its only disadvantage is weight, being about 200 pounds in the RL. Even so, the car handles in the twisties, especially with the A-Spec suspension, like a car half its weight. This heavy car can really boogie.

I've driven it. It is a solid system...no doubt. My point is that AWD needs to be an option, not the only way the car comes. I live in Florida. I don't need AWD.

Mercedes, Lexus, BMW, Audi, etc all manage to offer RWD and AWD versions...why can't Acura?

The AWD isn't necessarily for inclement weather, though. Again, this is where Acura's marketing failed. You don't hear the same complaint about other performance cars that have only AWD. I've never heard anyone say your line for the Subaru Impreza WRX, for example.

That honor is held by the 06 Accord. It's nice to see that Honda realized its mistake and is doing something about it - just hope it pans out. This MMC is also a way to squeeze more models years out of the RL.

You must have missed the guy on the Subi forum that wanted to change his STi into a FRONT wheel drive car.

I think Acura should bring back the Legend name in a S Class, 7 Series, LS competitor. That would definitely turn some heads. As long as it doesn't look anything like the Advanced Sedan Concept from a while back.

interesting that you said that because there are a number of people that wish acura would bring back names instead of alpha codes for their model names.

I see your point. You are absolutely right, this is something we talk about all the time in the RL forums. Except Acura would make it FWD and AWD, not RWD. . In any case, the SH-AWD was supposedly specifically meant for improved dry-weather handling.

Holy CRAP! Acura is really shaking things up. As I said in another thread - it seems that Acura IS doing what they promised - plenty of the execs have been quietly saying that the next few years are going to be big for Acura and I think they're right.

This is EXACTLY what the RL needed. The car is fundamentally a great car. Great AWD drivetrain, lots of refinement and tech. It just needs a touch more grunt, and more aggressive sheetmetal in order to go from good to great.

I really hope this MMC is the ticket for this much underappreciated car...and Acura should market the damn thing like they mean it.

From my personal experience no one can picture what my car looks like when I tell them its a RL. When I tell someone its an updated Legend then they can get a mental image. Acura could actually distinguish itself from other brands with the name format since everyone is in love with the numerical system right now.

Weird... They are going to show the 2009 RL, but we've yet to see the 2009 TSX (forsale in the spring of 2008 ??) and 2009 TL (available in Sept 2008 ??)...

Acura drives me crazy....

Showing off the RL won't make a diff in sales - RL sales suck, period. Honda doesn't want people holding off on purchases when they see the new models' look.

Oh, right... if you look at it logically... But when has Acura done anything logically in the past couple of years ?

And the FLAGSHIP should have been the 2007 NSX (which we'll see in 2012??)

The Flagship is the RL...although it is not much of a flagship.

The Halo car is the NSX......when or if it ever get built.

I say we go to the chicago show, about 5 of us "ziners" and kidnap someone from Acura design and engineering and then drive him around the block about 5times and then dump him with new photoshops and specs of the cars they should build. He will just say he had a dream...

I wish Acura had offered the Legend Max.....THAT is a halo car. I would've been one of the suckers who bought it. Then I wouldn't be thinking of bolting Acura for a Caddy CTS-V.

Remember this? A 4 liter V8, 500+ hp, etc.....

http://www.vtec.net/news/news-item?news_item_id=319284

Back on topic. I posted this info on the RL board.....

Acura's media preview is scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 6th at 10 AM in the Acura display. I think Acura is holding things close to the vest for as long as possible, and so no new pix on the auto show website.

Check out the schedule here

Since it's in the Acura area, we should be able to see it on the nearby webcam.

Someone else gave us a webcam link....
http://www.chicagoautoshow.com/about/WebCam.asp

The Acura area is right next to the main entrance, so no one will miss whatever the MMC RL looks like.

TOV is reporting 306HP for the RL.

I know HP isn't everything but for marketing sake it should have been more.

Jeff from TOV is praying it was misinformation, though.

Heh, at least we can keep up with the DI CTS-V.

And where is Honda's Direct Injection engine? Or VVVTTTTiiixxx engine?

And what ever happened to A-VTEC?

Seems they just keep stroking the J. Time for something new, at least for Acura.
