I just hope Honda knows that they are treading into dangerous waters with R8 pricing, and I hope the performance is on par with it's competitors.

By the time the NSX launches we'll likely have a successor to the R8.

Im excited to for spy shots of this bad boy lapping the ring!

Nice video. I still can't get over the new NSX. Acura had better build this thing! I personally hope they price it semi-reasonably so I can find a way to buy/lease/steal one.

All Acura needs to do now is to bring back the Legend name and match it with an appropriately good-looking car with awesome tech.

Slapping the Honda badge on the next gen NSX is not going to help Acura in any way further their brand differentiation from Honda.

So they arent going to establish Acura as an international brand?

The NSX launch would be a good time to do so...

My Acura dealership posted on their Facebook status today quoting the new commercial and stated that they are taking orders for the new NSX and claim to already have models reserved.

Ballsy being its so far off from production?

I wonder if that's even true. May be simply trying to land customers for when it will be made available.

It's not an easy task at all for Honda, KillerG...

Acura will be sold in Ukraine and Russia from 2013. They are markets where Acura is selling already well (MDX and RDX) and is considered a 100% luxury brand as Lexus or BMW.
In EU nobody knows (except me...) the Acura brand.
From the launching of the new hybrid engines Ito knows that theoretically he could begin to sell Acura cars in EU, where the 70% of sold cars are with diesel engines...

But WHICH range the Acura brand could sell in EU?
The TSX? No, because there is the Accord for 30 000 euro. And it's unthinkable that they could kill the Accord.
The ILX? Yes.
The RL? Maybe. But there is already the Legend for 55 000 euro.. Then: or they will kill the Honda Legend or the RL.
The MDX? Yes.
The RDX? Yes.
The ZDX? Maybe.
The NSX?.. In EU I could bet for sure that they will sell the NSX with an Honda badge. Then...?

Honda had to release it now to reaffirm faith in their brand for those flocking elsewhere. Their sales numbers are running horribly compared to the luxury competition. These next few years are vitally important for both Acura and Lincoln to reestablish their brands lest they fall into irrelevance.

But yeah, up to 3 years does seem like a looooong wait. There may be another 10,000 posts in this thread before we see the real deal. I’m ready to see the actual vehicle perform and not a computer generation.

Bob I'm with you on both counts. With all the hype and advertising they better build it this time otherwise what little cred they have left will be gone for a generation.

About getting one; Yea, the timing will be right for me. First daughter will be out of college. Can spend the extra cash on me for a change. Only worry is I will look ridiculous getting out of a cool car like that at my age.

There's always a waiting list. Acura has too many trim levels and color combinations for us to stock enough cars to satisfy everyone who wanders through the front door. We discussed what to do about NSXs and the long lead time, and will probably come up with a 2nd list just for that car.

This is true. When the 2nd gen MDX was released, it was the number one selling SUV in some eastern European countries, outselling cars such as the X5, ML, and Q7, which all have established dealers already. Acura will do really well in Ukraine and Russia when it finally gets established dealerships.

Acura will also debut in the U.A.E and Saudi Arabia, but I'm not sure how people view Acura there. It may not be bad considering the main Acura that most people in the middle east are familiar with is the NSX and to a lesser extent, the MDX.

I understand that pushing Acura worldwide would be a huge undertaking, but i guess its much more complicated than I had even originally thought

Regardless of what they have planned for the future, I am liking the direction we are slowly headed for now.

Bonus round: ed423 found this floating around on tumblr

I wonder if those on the waiting list for the V10 front engined car have been informed its not coming.

That NSX commercial was great. Good to see Acura back in the game, even with vaporware.

http://www.motortrend.com/future/fut...015_acura_nsx/

Acura's 1991 NSX put an end to the era when sexy supercars could be unreliable, ill-handling, ergonomic disasters. The all-aluminum mid-engine marvel delivered laser-sharp handling and high-revving acceleration suffused with Japanese quality, while advancing the state of the production-car art with firsts like four-channel ABS, titanium con-rods, and electric power steering.

Since NSX production ended in 2005, the world has eagerly awaited its replacement. A front-engine V-10 layout was proposed and developed by Acura Design as the Advanced Sports Car Concept. Everyone involved agreed that it was cool, but it wasn't an NSX. The car you see here is.

Expected by 2015, the new NSX will employ a mid-mounted V-6, complete with titanium connecting rods coupled to a wet twin-clutch seven-speed transmission and hybridized with an electric motor driving the rear wheels. Two more electric motors will spin the front wheels, providing torque-vectoring under acceleration and braking to help the NSX turn into corners better under all conditions. This Sports Hybrid AWD system is purported to deliver big-V-8 performance with "better-than-four-cylinder" fuel economy (let's assume they're talking big turbo fours there).

We asked Honda's global CEO Takanabu Ito (who started his career as an engineer working on the NSX's aluminum monocoque structure) whether he felt it was important that the next NSX still be made of aluminum. He replied what was more important was that the engineering team face as great a challenge as his did as they work to offset the new car's hybrid drivetrain mass. When asked whether he'd established a weight-to-power target for the team, his coy answer was, "I hope it is better than the first car's."

But if we assume that here again he expects to challenge his engineers to an equal extent, and we know that the first NSX matched Ferrari's 348 with 11 lb/horsepower, we can expect the 2015 car to at least match the current 458 Italia (and Lamborghini Gallardo) with around 6 lb/hp.

The sexy, show-stopping shape features Acura's softening Keen Edge design. Dimensionally, it measures 3.7 inches shorter in length on a 1.8-inch longer wheelbase, so overhangs are cropped. It's also 3.3 inches wider and 0.4 inch lower than the 2005 NSX. The concept rides on 255/35-19 front and 275/30-20 rear rubber. The low-profile headlamps are LED-based, and while there is no interior in the concept, design chief Jon Ikedo presumes the battery will package in the center tunnel, luggage compartments will be fitted fore and aft, and the fuel tank will slot in just ahead of the engine as before to preserve weight distribution as the fuel level drops. With production slated for "within three years," the shape has yet to undergo extensive computer or physical testing. Ikedo says early scale-model clays are performing well in the wind tunnel, but cautions that crash development is likely to grow the car somewhat. That development work, by the way, is all happening in the USA, and the car will be built in Ohio.

Acura claims the next NSX will represent the "ultimate expression of man-machine synergy," with driver and car working in unison, rather than the driver being taken for a ride by a highly robotized car.

Indeed a three-motor, mid-engine supercar sounds like the ideal halo car for a brand attempting to distinguish itself as delivering luxury and performance without waste or excess. It may even shake up the supercar-world order again. We just hope Ito's engineers overcome their biggest challenge: programming those electronics to deliver realistic, not robotic, road feel.

New Tech
The NSX won't be first with a hybridized twin-clutch tranny, but, unlike the Jetta Hybrid's, its electric motor connects to (we're guessing the odd) gear shaft instead of the input shaft. By releasing both clutches, more energy can be regenerated with no engine braking effect, and by connecting the motor to the (odd or even) gear with the most advantageous ratio. Under acceleration, power is transmitted through a preselected odd gear even when an even gear is in use.

Judging by the write-up, the upcoming NSX looks promising as it seems to retain the essence of the original model but introduces a fairly impressive array of technology. Though it likely will not be a "direct" competitor, it sounds like it will provide GT-R type performance but remain a driver's car (unlike the GT-R).

That said, 2015? We'll have a new GT-R, Vette, R8 and possibly an updated 911 by that time. So, it'll still be behind the 8-ball.
