What makes you guys think they'd whip out a RWD coupe and not an Acura Accord coupe?

In many respects, the E60 M5 is the end of an era. Last of the naturally aspirated. Last of the M-only engines. Only model to ever have that engine.
In other news, I guy from the M5board just supercharged his E60 M5: http://www.m5board.com/vbulletin/e60...vt2-story.html

I always love the look of individual throttles next to the head. That is so functional and cool. My borther had a 1988 M6 and it's M88 motor and each cylinder also had individual throttles. Great response and sounds neat.

The sizzle in the Steak
And again, that brings us back to the unfortunate situation of where Honda/Acura is at this present time.
While I don't have the same level of criticism leveled at them for their cars (i.e. the CR-V, Accord, TL, ZDX, Civic Si), I am definitely very unhappy that they do not have an "elite"-type car.
The NSX is finally a freaking start. But, let's not forget where the last concept went...yeah, vaporcar. So...call me cynical until it arrives at dealerships.

Full of hate for the brand. Always raining on Honda's parade.

The sizzle in the Steak
There is a better chance that Honda builds the NSX with the ability to fly than Honda producing a competitive RWD coupe.

Porsche: Carrerra GT... upcoming 918
Lexus: LFA
Mercedes: SLR 722...SLS
Ferrari: Enzo...upcoming Enzo replacement
Acura: ...upcoming NSX
Aston: one-77
Lambo: Reventon
BMW: ...upcoming i8
A halo car like the lexus LFA isnt supposed to be an advertisement for their mass market cars, it's not supposed to be covered in lexus ES350 flyers, the point of a Halo car is to elevate the brand image, and to show what the best and brightest of the company can accomplish when told that money is no longer of concern
did the LFA make me run out and buy an is? no.
But it did make me respect what toyota was capable of on a performance scale
If the NSX does well in sales, and does what it is intended to do for Acura, in the future we MAY possibly see a RWD coupe from honda. The ft-86 for example, if it does very well, may set the stage for a supra revival, or so the rumormills claim

hmm... lemme put it this way... maybe in the extreme far future (like when im getting ready to die), if the economy boosts back, and honda becomes very profitable, and the acura division becomes a top tier luxury performer, and the nsx is amazing and sells well, and we replace all current honda management...
in the future we MAY possibly see a RWD coupe from honda!
i hope some more context for that statement earns me back some credibility.

Burning Brakes
The only RWD cars Honda ever seems to make in recent memory (other than the S2k) are mid-engined cars, so it's unlikely we'll see any affordable RWD coupe any time soon. Even if they revive the S2k as a different sports car, it'll probably be pricey - certainly not FT-86 territory.

Okay folks, I've created a halo car discussion thread in Car Talk: https://acurazine.com/forums/car-talk-5/halo-car-discussion-thread-844781/
I've also moved some posts in here into that thread. Kinda hard to draw a solid line on what to move and what not. But, I think I've got the main ones...
Take any further commentary about this subject into there. Let's try to keep this thread NSX-centric.

Ohio Grabs Acura From Japan as Yen Fuels Exodus to U.S.
Honda Motor Co. (7267)’s choice to build what it calls a racing-oriented “supercar” in Ohio highlights confidence in its U.S. engineers and plants. It also shows the difficulty of producing autos in Japan as the yen rises.
When the high-performance hybrid Acura NSX goes on sale within three years, it will be the most expensive and technologically advanced car ever built in the U.S. by an Asian or European automaker. Ohio will be the sole global production site for the car executives suggest will sell for more than $100,000.
“This is a halo vehicle,” said John Shook, a former Toyota engineer, referring to a model that represents the highest ideal of a brand. He is also chairman of the Lean Enterprise Institute in Cambridge, Massachusetts, which consults on efficiency techniques. “Where you make it makes a statement. It’s a great thing for their local operation, and indicative of challenges in Japan.”
The surprise NSX plan, revealed by President Takanobu Ito in Detroit last week, follows Honda’s August announcement that a Mexican plant will make small cars to curb losses from exporting models such as the Fit from Japan. The two projects will give Honda the ability to produce its entire vehicle range, from cheapest to most expensive, within North America, a first for any carmaker based outside the U.S......

The Accord has been one of the most "American" (US content) sedans for decades. Making the NSX, or any other model, in the US is just simple economics.

I'll say it again: I pray this new iteration (if it can ever get past the vaporcar stage) can live up to its namesake...

And that picture Edmunds has with the R8 and the NSX next to each other? I honestly can say the NSX does not look that dated...call me nuts if you want. The NSX is still as hot as it is today as it was 20 years ago.

I honestly like the pre-MMC NSX more. I know pop-up headlights are from the 80s and shouldve stayed there, but they look good on the NSX.

IMO, that old school NSX-R still looks much hotter than a lot of cars that are coming out these days. It just looks so perfect.

specifically, I don't like that bodykit - I don't like the curves and lines - especially on the side vent where that curve goes up from the door towards the rear wheel. kills the mood. Also I think the roofline looks weird because of the hardtop.

Check the speedo too - it's in MPH rather than KPH. I'm thinking clone rather than original.

If it is a clone, it's quite well done. On the other hand, that $71K price tag is WAY too high for a clone.

It IS a clone. The auction says it started out as an NSX-T (which NONE of the Type Rs were targas), and was rebuilt into a Type R.
Its way too expensive for what it is. It looks great though. Id rather drop $40k on a mid-90s NSX, and another $20-25k into mods.

lol, yes, it's a clone. I am not sure which "white wannabe monstrous abomination" you were talking about, but I was referring to the NSX-R clone as shown in the ebay link above.
Here is the NSXPRIME link: http://www.nsxprime.com/forum/showthread.php?t=61106
It's a clone, but it's the best clone I've seen. It's based on a 2002 NSX-T.
And the asking price is over $110k.

well, you did say 'auction'. but it did get a little confusing there because there are 2 white NSX's above.
