Whoever gets 100+ Oct gas and Dyno it first on race setting wins!!

btw, just had a chance to read the instructions. Here is the little section about the racing setting:

Accessory Cable Functionality

a. The normal position for ECU Pwr is on ( I ) and the normal position for the Map
A/B switch is off ( 0 ) and unless you are either resetting the ECU or desire to run Map B, these switches should remain in these positions.

To change either switch, turn off the ignition key before actuating the switch.

b. With the ignition key off and removed, selecting the on ( I ) position on the Map A/B switch selects timing Map B, which can be verified by illumination of the red LED when the vehicle is started. Using Map B may result in a CEL on some vehicles; the CEL results from that particular vehicle’s increased sensitivity to detonation. If Map B produces a CEL in your vehicle, select reselect Map A and use the ECU power cut switch to clear the CEL as outlined below.

Note: (1) More is not always better… adding more timing can actually reduce power in a particular vehicle if that vehicle is sensitive to detonation. If the stock ECU detects detonation, it will reduce timing to protect the engine; if you’re car doesn’t seem to be making more power than stock and you’re running Map B, switch back to Map A and
you will feel the power increase. This condition can and does occur even without a CEL.
So I say, lets just take the Map B with as an Unknow for the time being. But Map A (daily driving Map), we know for sure works!

Does anyone have any pictures of where the ECU is located? Is it in the same location in the TL-S as in the CL-S? My understanding is the ECU is located on the passenger side close to the radio and all we need to do is pull the carpet back and it will be exposed.

Okay so given the following senario, will this be correct.

1) I put a few gallons of 100+ in my near empty tank.
2) With the ignition off and the key out, I flip to "Map B"
3) Start car
4) CEL turns on
5) Turn off car, remove key
6) Flip to "Map A"
7) Flip ECU reset switch
8) Start car again

Is this correct? Once the car is started will I switch off the reset switch? Or is it the type of switch where it doesn't stay in the 2nd posistion? Like I flip it up and it returns to the down posistion when I let off the button.

Nope.

Its like a light switch. When you flip it on, its on Map B (led on), off its on Map A (led off).

So once you have 100+ in your tank, you would have the key out, turn on Map B, turn on the car, the LED should come on. Now you are in B mode. No need to go to A, until you go back to pump gas. Or if your ECU is throwing a CEL, then follow their instructions to reset everything back to A mode.

I was refering to the ECU reset switch. So to reset the ECU I would switch it ON then OFF??

I would only assume it is a typical reset button that will automatically spring back.

Dyno Scheduled

3:00pm Friday. I rented it for the hour so I'll have plenty of time to get multiple pulls in. Most likely I will do 2 baselines, 2 setting A, and 2 setting B; try and get the most out of my hour.

I'll be there with a gas can full of 100+

I'll let you all know how it turns out Friday evening.

Nope. Its an on/off switch. Don't worry, the instructions explains it all very clearly.

I can't imagine it's that significant... I thought the primary use of the "B" setting was for N2O

No gains will come from running race gas. The reason for running 100+ octane is for safety reasons (i.e., preventing knock)

It is my understanding that the "B" setting on our chip is different than the "B" setting on Matt's chip. Our "B" setting was tuned on Brian's car for N/A applications. Matt's "B" setting has the Uni-chip take control over the Zex system's control of the NOS.

This doesnt make sense to me .. so your saying the unichip won't be safe unless running 100+ octane ALL the time? I'm pretty sure the timing is set safe enough on the 'A' map to prevent knock on daily driving. But if the race gas setting (Map B) won't yield any gains over running the street map .. why did they bother to put it on? It doesnt make sense that using a more aggressive timing map with 100 octane won't yield SOME type of gain...

No no, on the "A" setting 93 octane, or 91 for the Cali guys, will be just fine. On setting "B" the timing is advanced even further (aka more hp) thus the need for race gas to help against detonation.

The reason why setting "B" may not yield gains for everyone is that every car is a little different. Some might be quirky and see that significant timing increase and go nuts. The ECU itself will then DECREASE timing (aka less hp) as a safety precaution to prevent knock.

So basically there is the possibilty of setting "B" being too extreme for some cars. If your ECU isn't a prude you should see gains on setting "B" with 100+ race gas only for added safety.

Don't really know what you mean by "won't work"

Also I wouldn't see a need for the "B" setting unless you were racing at the track or doing so "spirited driving" on the street. Babying the car on the "B" setting really is pointless

I'd just switch it back to "A" while on the street for everyday use.

hmm, reading last couple of pages, I have learned that:
1--the unichip has different settings, from what I understood in the beginning was that you just plug it in and go.
2-- In the race setting 100+ Octane is needed for the prevention of knock.
Interesting

Good call, mrsteve.

Remember guys, the A setting is the map we really are paying for! This is the map that gives us the gains we saw in both Matt and my car. Consider B as a bonus for the extream, you still come out head with this deal.

Its really not that bad at all.. After you actually pull out the carpet and look at the ECU and the way harness are plugged in, you'll realize that it is ver straight forward. If anything just post pics here, and I'm sure we'll are help you out if you need it.

Chip is in. Nice buncha guys at Unichip. Thanks.
On the 40 mile drive home, traffic and construction was not condusive to spirited driving so I can't report on perceived gains. No CEL.
