Dyno Run

Gentlemen,

I called Alamo Autosports in Arlington (817-860-4300) and found out the following:

They are open on both Fridays and Saturdays with dyno runs by appointment only. They quoted me a standard charge of $75 for 3 pulls (includes printout) if I went down by myself. They said they could do a "buddy" deal for $65 for 3 pulls each if we had 3-4 cars. They also said they could do a club "dyno day" for $45 for 2 pulls each IF we had 10 or more cars. They are located at 1218 Colorado Lane, Suite C-3, Arlington, TX 76015 (North of I-20 off Cooper Street before you get to Pioneer Parkway).

I think we need to shop around before we commit to this thing. Does anybody know anyone else around they can call and get a quote from? These prices seem a little high to me. I would bet we could get single runs for around $50 and a dyno day for $25 if we shopped around a little.

Now comes the scary part: I was thinking if we are planning a Texas Type-S run night at Ennis in November, why don't we see if we can schedule a dyno day either earlier that Friday or the next morning, whichever would be better for increasing our numbers at the dyno shop?

I bet we could get a few folks from Austin/SA and from Houston to come up if we made local program something not to miss--dyno your car in the afternoon and run it at the strip in the evening--you know this would set the bragging rights for the Texas clubs for a while to come!

Good work Inferno. I'll call a shop in North Dallas off of 75 tomorrow. If worse comes to worse, I KNOW we can get 3-4 cars in the area for 3 pulls each. Scheduling a dyno day for Texans to come may be doable. I don't know how many of those Austin/SA/OK guys would be willing to make the extra drive all the way up/down here for it though.

I'll ask the guys doing the work on my car tomorrow, and see what they charge for a dyno run. I didn't know they did it until I saw a pic on their website. They're off 75 just north of 635.

FYI, they're charging me $475 for the install of headers, CAI, springs, sways, and spark plugs (yeah, I could have done it myself, but they threw it in no charge :P ). I thought that was a pretty f*cking good price.

I'm in for the Dyno-Dash.

The only issue is Friday's from 3-7, and Saturday's ????

I've got soccer season in full swing. So as long as I can make it at the scheduled time, I'm there.

So as soon as we get an idea of a date, if it's different from the Ennis trip, I can let you know what works for me.

The season ends 11/9, so it gets easier after that. And don't forget, after the 18th, I'm toast for a few weeks due to some shoulder surgery.

Lastly, doing both on the same day will be harder for me to pull off.

:o Thanks Danny, I didn't even notice that.

By the way, what are used CAIs going for? Enough to help offset some of the cost for the ice box?

Dyno Days and Race Nights

I started a question thread to see if we get any takers. If you guys know folks in the other clubs, can you point them to this link so we can see what the interest is?

DeezNutz,

You are nuts, and I like it. Is the S/C going to be ordered next month. :P

Anyway, that's a great price for everything. DMD Acura was going to charge me $495 for just the springs. :pfawk:

I wonder what those guys would charge for just springs and sways? maybe the ice box too if it doesn't get here within a week.

You want to post that to the TL site as well? Or I can.

Civic or someone could post to his Honda buddies that came out to the last meet.

Just make sure that folks respond to the Dallas Area thread to keep it going.

Last time we lost over a 100 post on a separate thread. We are approaching 1500!

RUF,

They were asking slightly lower than the going rate for individual installs (they claim $50 / hr for labor, but it didn't seem to be reflected in their standardized pricing for springs, sways, etc), but after giving them a request for a "group rate" for all those goodies, they came back with that price. I was planning on trying to get them down to $500, so I couldn't believe it when they low-balled me!

They need the car for 2 days, though, so I'm not too cool with that -- considering this is my only ride around town.

Of course, when I get it back, I'm gonna be going f*cking nutz in that beauty. >;]

here's how much installs should cost you... I already got quoted some of tehse prices here in Austin... CAI = $50 at most, Springs = $200 , Sways = $50, Plugs = $25 ... sways are really easy to install once you get the car up... springs are a 3 hours job... cai and sways are 1 hour job... this is at going rate of $50 an hour... my friend sidemarker already had his springs installed for $150 at a shop here in Austin and if I wasn't doing it myself I'd proly go there too... I think the only mods you should have someone else install are springs and headers... everything else is pretty self explanatory... headers and spirngs just b/c they're in difficult to reach areas... sways are a breeze from the DIYers I've herad from... check out my friend Austin519's page if you want directions for intsall of almost all these parts...

http://www.acura-tl.org/ ... Austin (also his name) is gonna help me install my springs soon... I:'ll have a detailed w/ pics writeup once I'm done...

Mantis, I shot an email to Kyle (I think that's the owner) at CTC about doing a group dyno setup, so he should be at least familiar with the idea of a bunch of Acuras/Hondas rolling in.

Hey Deeznuts, I emailed him, and stopped by the shop to talk to Kyle just now. He was real cool. I told him that I have about 5 guys who want to dyno Hondas / Acuras. He said they don't have a actual dyno machine at the shop, but we could probably set something up with intercrew a few blocks away on like a Saturday morning. He can't really give me a cost estimate until I get the number of guys who want to do it.

So who is all in for sure? so far I have

well guys, i just ordered my exhaust. Its gonna take about 2 weeks to get from Japan, then about another 4 days to me from cali. I'm kinda skeptical, everyone is saying this exhaust is loud, but is one of the only ones to gain hp. OH well, we will see, hehe

0-60 tests -

I just did a couple of runs out at the same spot I did my other tests to see what difference the wheels and tires made.

I used the same spot to keep things consistent.

I also did 2 runs to check out variances.

Anyway, the result was 6.41 and 6.49. On the 6.49 I spun the tires a bit more.
This compare to my previous best time of 6.87.

The weather conditions were a bit different with it being cooler today, but more humid. Probably a bit of a wash.

I also noted that I have a dirty air filter so I'm probably losing a bit there, but not much.

So all in all, my guess that I knocked 4-5 tenths off of my times was pretty good.

Can't wait to see what the Ice Box does.
