I'm not sure if you have to buy a copy of office 2010 to get access to the web apps or if they'll be available to everyone. I don't think they're full featured though, they should be have as many features a Google docs or more but they won't break your formating like Google docs can do.
There's one very small, but potentially very useful, thing I wish they would implement in Office. It would just be nice if when you were viewing an email message in Outlook you could select a block of text and then right-click and say "open as a Word document." Same thing in the other direction as well, right click a block of text in a Word document and say "open as a new email message."
Cheese and Rice this shit never works for me! IDK if it's bad luck or what but I'm having problems running Outlook 2010 x64. As soon as I try to open it it gives me a message that says my Outlook Connector needs to be updated and that I need to update it before I can run outlook. So I click the button to update it and it downloads the appropriate Outlook Connector and then I run setup.exe file for that but then that won't install cause it says I don't have a version of Outlook installed.
So I tried to uninstall the whole Office Suite but it says it was corrupted and that I need to reinstall it. So I do that and I'm still getting the same message that I can't uninstall and that I can't open outlook or install the outlook connector. It's like a which came first the Chicken or the egg thing.
I'm gonna try and install the x86 version and see if that will work but I bet it won't let me install both versions.
Other than that everything else seems to work fine, word, excel, PowerPoint. I was really hoping to play with outlook though. The new photo features and screenshot taking capabilities are nice. The best new photo feature is the background removal tool. It's very similar to the tool in iWork and Preview on OS X called "instant alpha" which is a very neat tool. It's implementation seems easier to use but doesn't give as much detailed control as the instant alpha tool. I just wish the feature was available in W7 as well and that you didn't need to buy Office to get it. I like how the Print Preview and page setup is built into one window now. Also the fact that Office supports DEP for security, 64 bit for massive spreadsheets, and the ODF format further compatibility are all welcome additions.

Nope I can't install 32 bit cause I've installed 64 bit. So I'm pretty much fucked in regards to Outlook. I can't open it or uninstall it. my only option seems to be reinstall the OS, which I ain't doing. so I guess I'll have to sit this one out.
Update on W7 availability for Volume Licensees. Apparently Mary Jo Foley was way off but they announced W7 will be available on Sept 1 for Volume Licensees. Also they will be doing a limited time promotion for them and depending on the amount of Win7 copies and your geographic location they will be offering anywhere from 15% to 35% discount for copies of the new OS.
Ok even further clarification on W7 availability for MSDN, Technet, VL and VL w/SA.

The answer depends on who you are:
MSDN & TechNet Subscribers: Subscribers will be able to download the final version of Windows 7 a few weeks after we announce RTM.
Volume License (VL) Customers: Customers with Software Assurance for Windows will be able to download the final version of Windows 7 Enterprise a few weeks after we announce RTM. As announced today by Bill Veghte during his WPC09 keynote, customers without Software Assurance will be able to purchase Windows 7 through Volume Licensing on September 1st.
Consumers, Enthusiasts, & Beta Testers (Everyone else): The retail version of Windows 7 will be available in stores October 22nd. If you pre-ordered Windows 7, it should be delivered sometime around the October 22nd timeframe (depends on the retailer). You can pre-order Windows 7 today through many online retailers like the Microsoft Store.
On New PCs: OEMs are expected to start shipping new PCs with Windows 7 pre-installed on them around October 22nd.

Windows 7 and Server 2008 R2 have officially RTMed! The final build is 7600, it was supposed to announced at WPC but there was some last minute problem that delayed it a week.

"The RTM code will be delivered to our partners within the next few days who will then start preparing to deliver some amazing new products timed to hit at General Availability (GA) of Windows 7 on October 22nd. As always, current Windows Volume License customers, MSDN subscribers and TechNet subscribers will get first customer access, getting Windows 7 on August 6 (MSDN/TechNet) and August 7 (VL), and Windows Server 2008 R2 the second half of August."
Loaded 7 x86 RTM last night, upgrading from RC 1, not recommended practice but seems to have worked without issue. Time will tell that story though. Edited the cversion.ini file to get the upgrade option.
Been running W7 RC1 on my work PC for awhile now. I love it. And I just found out that you can do dual screen calibration. My work monitors have never looked more close in brightness/color. Installed on my 3-year old Alienware laptop last night and all seemed to be working well this morning.
Edit: Question: When upgrading, it seems to keep all of the old system icons without replacing them with Windows 7 icons. Is there a way to quickly convert them to W7?

that was probably a problem with the upgrade process hopefully that got fixed in RTM. I can think of no way to convert icons without changing them one at a time. What icons for you haven't changed?

Also, the RC1 wiped out my Norton Ghost on my laptop. Any other options out there for W7? I'd still like to keep main backups and incremental ones as well.
They've adjusted the scores for WEI to account for better graphics cards. In vista the highest score possible is 5.9 in 7 it's 7.9. They may have also raised the bar for the scores. Check ATI for the most recent driver, they released a WHQL driver for W7 RTM a few days ago.
Anyone else playing with Office 2010? I got Outlook working by creating a new account in the mail control panel before Hotmail was my only account in Outlook but I still get nagged to upgrade outlook connector and I can't delete my hotmail account to make the nagging go away. Other than that, the threaded messages is nice and I'm finally getting to experience exchange calendars and mail. Push calendars and email is really cool!

No it's definitely a good idea but remember the RC expires in March and RTM is available in Oct. I mean if you're going to do it anyways then sure go ahead and do it but if you had a perfectly fine Vista system I'd wait until RTM is released to do it cause you're gonna have to uninstall the RC before march if not when RTM is released in Oct. But if you're doing it anyways that RC isn't a bad idea.
hmmm... nvidia started making it's drivers for mobile graphics cards available directly at it's website a few months ago, ATi still hasn't followed suit?
Nope. It states "no driver available" from the ATI/AMD website for any version of Windows. It used to read that I needed to contact my provider for drivers.
There's probably been a driver available for a long time but driver are never marked as important updates in Windows Updates only as recommended updates therefore they don't get installed automatically. If you don't check Windows update manually and look at the recommended ones then you won't see it. If wish after a certain amount of time that a WHQL driver has been publicly available that WU would install them automatically but alas....
do you know what driver you were using in vista? was it a microsoft driver or an ATI/alienware one? if it was an ATI/alienware driver for vista, you could try loading that driver in 7.
Technet, MSDN, MSDNAA, and Volume Licensees with software assurance are
Unfortunately my MSDNAA account has expired since I haven't been to school in two years. but now I can get it through technet so I should be good.

to get it. Seems I wasn't invited so I'll have to resort to other ways

Update Driver in the MMC actually downloaded and installed....an updated driver for my video card. Went from 2006 to 2009
