Apple: iPhone News and Discussion Thread
Did anyone else who pre-ordered and received their iPhone on release day not get charged yet? During the pre-order phase, I did have a processing charge for the phone on my bank account but once it shipped that charge disappeared. I am sure I will be charged eventually but it just seems weird to me. Maybe it will end up on my next month's bill.
Apple reportedly investigating iPhone 4S battery drain
Apple engineers are looking into faster-than-expected battery drain on the company's newest iPhone, according to a report.
The Guardian reports that some iPhone 4S owners are being contacted by Apple after complaining about lower-than-expected battery performance on the company's support Web site. Numerous users there are saying their phones are lasting just a few hours, even with minimal use, and with power-draining features disabled.
At least one owner told The Guardian that an Apple engineer contacted him and provided instructions for installing a diagnostic file that would be sent back to the company for analysis. This was after telling him the quick draining was a known issue.
Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the matter.

iPhone users, my home button works when it wants to, and I can't ever quickly invoke the running apps bar... it takes like 10 clicks of trial and error.
I've tried recalibration by holding the power button until the slide off appears, then I held lightly the home button to readjust sensitivity, but it didn't help.
I do have Apple Care, but maybe I can fix this myself.. ideas please.

before taking it apart try compressed air in the dock connector and pouring a few drops of alcohol in the home button seams.

Most people are saying the time zone fix seems to fix the problem. Does iOS 5 come with some sort of battery usage breakdown like in Android? It would be helpful in things like these.
A guy at work wants to buy my 3G and jailbreak it. I think he wants to sell it afterwards on Craigslist or something. What should I ask for it? I don't want to give it away but I don't want to ask too much.
Without diving into all the possible jokes. lol. Sounds like a software problem more than anything. Have you tried the following tips:

+1. I sold my dad's iPhone 3G a few weeks ago on FleaBay and got $80 for it, but it was in terrible condition and didn't include a charger, cable, etc. The screen was scratched up and the back was cracked and had a chunk missing by the charging port.

apple moved the mute switch a tad on the Verizon version of the iPhone 4 because of the CDMA/redesigned antenna.
they also issued updated bumper cases that work with both the AT&T and Verizon version, so most manufacturers should've updated theirs as well..
+1 on the $100, that's what I sold my 8gb 3G for in good condition.
lol I looked it up briefly and I am seeing some hilarious headlines.... such as...
"Internet explodes with ridicule over the horrible Gmail app for iphone"
apparently its all over Twitter, FB, etc. yeah I think I'll wait to download it. no current need, anyway.
on Techcrunch:
"New Gmail app for iphone is unusable, shows errors upon launch"
is Google getting lazy? yeah I think so. actually I think many big tech behemoths are lazy. look at the history of horrible facebook iphone app, for instance

Honestly, I just save the link on my Safari. I mostly use a Comcast so it sucks for iPhone email app because I can't save emails to my folders.
Anyone get Garageband now that it's on iPhone.

History only goes back so far. Have to go to web to get stuff from earlier in the day, depending on how much mail I get.
I did, and I wasted $5.

Gmail app for iPhone and iPad: briefly available, quickly pulled
Gmail pulls iOS app over notification bug
By Thomas Houston on November 2, 2011 02:12 pm
Well, that was fast. Just a few hours after releasing its long-awaited Gmail for iOS, Google announced on Twitter that it is pulling the app over a notification bug. Many users spotted a "no valid 'aps-environment' error entitlement" on first launch, and it appears the problem was bad enough to get the app pulled entirely from the App Store.

iOS 5 patch coming soon
Since early after iOS 5 was released several weeks ago for iPhone, users have complained of battery issues, and today it’s become officially confirmed by an Apple representative that not only are there several bugs, they’re working to fix them all up in a single patch to be released soon. We’ve addressed this concern ourselves this past week and have confirmed that just a single switch in the settings panel alleviates much of the concern. What Apple has apparently spoken to The Loop today is that they’ll be sending out a bug fix inside a few weeks.
You just need to change the message retention settings in the mail app options. Default is something small like 50 msgs, but you can change it to all msgs if you want them stored on your phone instead of having to search the server.
Puzzled with this, it seems I have every e-mail on my phone, if I haven't deleted it.
