for those of you with poor battery life, disable automatic time zone detection. it increased my battery life significantly. i was losing 10% every hour and now its down to about 2-5% every hour
As you astutely observed, I'm a hardcore Google guy, I hope this doesn't become a PITA with the 4S. Matt (Mizous) assures me it isn't.
Werd. Gibson, I decided to test drive a white 64MB 4S. My nano went on the blink after too many days on the mountain snowboarding and I heard the current generation nano is a piece of sh-t. Since I need a new music player and I was eligible for an upgrade, I thought I'd spring for the 4S. It was $399 after my discount+shipping, activation and tax.

If I delete Email on my phone, it gets deleted off the server too. If I send a email it shows up on he server as well. (ie if I log onto the website it is in sync)
Dunno what else to say about it
I have no issues with gmail, get a nice push notification everytime I get mail

For what it's worth, I have an extra invite to Google Music, which you could use to store all your music (up to 20,000 songs). Google Music syncs with the Android Google Music app pretty nicely.
Good luck with the 4S Rick, you can't go wrong with it. The iphone will use it's stock email client to deliver your email, but it won't give you the robust feature of Gmail. Features such as label sync, conversation view.

Oh my bad, ya know what I meant, GB LOL.
The e-mail already has the replies made back and forth, so why do you need to stitch together 25 e-mails. What I don't what to see is many e-mails to the same person on different subjects put together.
Right, but the key is that all the separate emails are grouped as one. Some you can forward, reply, ect to each specific message without having to deal with the whole conversation in one email.

Also I guess as soon as google rereleases the gmail app he could have the full gmail experience
Google Music also works in the iPhone browser as well. Any browser for that matter. Just point it to google.com/music. Its not as integrated as it is in Android but it works. You can manage your playlist all in the browser as well. I have about 7 invites if any one is interested. I'm sure Google will open it up soon since they've already announced they'll have a music store coming out soon.
Werd, this is very important for business emails i.e. when I'm communicating with my CPA and financial advisor. I guess I can just do this at work on desktop if it becomes problematic.
You can do that with the email app on the iPhone. It's not great like on gmail but it works.
It auto threads emails of the same topic. You can go into the thread see all related emails and goto the email you want and reply to that. But each individual email will show all the past messages.
Kind of hard to explain.

so here's an interesting one, I was down in vegas last weekend and have a bunch of club videos on my phone. Now when I connect my phone to my wifi it's trying to upload them all to icloud but it's killing my internet. I have about 6gb of vid etc, this is brutal.
You can turn off Photo backups in settings.
Get to wifi and let it back them, or turn it off.
So I'm planning to upgrade my 3GS to a 4S, but I'm not gonna activate it. I hope to sell it without a contract for $$$, is there a legit way to do this?
Never done such a thing before, but I don't want to waste my upgrade opportunity.

It'll be a little problematic because you have a 3GS that you want to keep using, so you won't be able to send a SIM to the new purchaser.
What you're going to have to do is activate your iPhone 4S, then reset it to stock and remove the micro SIM.
Then you'll have to re-activate your 3GS.
It will then be okay for you to sell your formerly activated iPhone 4S, but the new purchaser will not have a micro SIM shipped with the device. The new purchaser will have to use his own SIM.
If you do not go through this procedure before you sell the iPhone 4S, your angry purchaser will have to call you to get private information from you in order to activate it on your number before he can activate it with a different micro SIM on his account.
Jailbreakers unearth hidden panorama mode in iOS 5 camera app

Hopefully this feature makes its way to those that don't wish to buy a panorama app and don't wish to jailbreak their phone.
Somewhere deep within the bowels of iOS 5 lurks a panoramic camera function, and hacker Conrad Kramer has unlocked it. The trick, according to Kramer (AKA Conradev), is to set the "EnableFirebreak" key to "Yes" within an iOS preference file. Alternatively, you could just grab fellow hacker Grant Paul's Firebreak tweak, which just hit the Cydia storefront this morning. Once installed on your jailbroken phone, Firebreak will allow you to take full panoramic shots directly from the iOS interface, as pictured above in Paul's screenshot. No word yet on if or when Apple plans on flipping this function live, but in the meantime, you can check out the links below for more details.
Hopefully this feature makes its way to those that don't wish to buy a panorama app and don't wish to jailbreak their phone.
