Apple: iPhone News and Discussion Thread
oh I'm itching to get a 4S.. I even put my 16gb 4 on CL briefly for $300... got 2 hits within 5 minutes... one offered 250 and the other wanted to do 300.. but I'd have to pay $150 ($449 total) for a 16gb 4S... and I 100% know this is absolutely a luxury...
well sure, but I really have no business spending $150 on a frivolous luxury like this right now... I mean there is absolutely no reason I "need" to get this right now. I think its just that stupid sh&tsirisays blog thats pissing me off lol
Don't know if this was mentioned before but I found a nice little update to the messages app. If you are in the messages app and viewing a text message and the keyboard is visible, you can swipe from the message boxes area all the way to the bottom of the screen, it will hide the keyboard. And if it's hidden, you can swipe up from the text input field and it will show the keyboard. This works in portrait and landscape mode. I hated that in previous versions of iOS that once the keyboard was shown you couldn't easily hide it.

Which is unfortunate, I don't want a 4.5 inch screen on a phone and there are simply too many mistakes made with a touchscreen keyboard. I don't have the dainty female asian fingers that most likely comprise their test subjects.
Not to bring up a android v. iphone debate, but Android does allow you to choose multiple keyboards from the Market. Things like Swype and SwiftKey have made the virtual keyboard a lot more tolerable.
The auto-correct in the phones is so good though, that it almost doesn't matter if you aren't hitting the right buttons. I can type "ytpw" on my iPhone and it'll correct it to "type". And you get used to it, fast. I can't imagine using a physical keyboard now. Every time I try to, it just feels much slower.
True and some of their keyboards are ok but I just don't like Android for some reason (which I can't put into a coherent argument). Just call it a preference.
I understand the reasons why they have moved to virtual keyboards for many of the devices like saving costs on parts, reducing wear on the phone, making the phones smaller, etc., but I would gladly spend an extra $25-50 if it meant having a physical keyboard.
On the "typing" related subject, I absolutely DESPISE the fact that the send button for a text message is immediately above the keyboard. I've accidentally sent so many incomplete text messages because of that. If they simply changed the send button to be a toggle switch like the "On/Off" buttons where you simply swipe the switch to one side and then it sends the message, but then the button snaps back to 'off' position it would greatly help.
So I was wondering why people still call next one that will come out next year to be called iphone5.....
Wasn't rumored-iphone5 due to 5th generation iphone? Just like iphone4 was 4th generation iphone?
Now that iphone4s is out (5th generation), what would make you guys believe next one will be iphone5? My possible guess would be iphone4g if it comes out with LTE.. or iphone6?
I guess it really doesn't matter what it'll be called, but just throwing out my thoughts..

You could always get a case with a slide out keyboard? I've seen some for the iPhone 4. Looks almost OEM.

Well iPhone 3G was the 2nd generation
iPhone 3G S = 3rd gen
iPhone 4 = 4th
iPhone 4 S = (?) technically 5th gen
iPhone (??) = 6th gen.
I guess people are calling it iPhone 5 cause they don't really consider the 4 S as a next gen.

says who?
they call it revolutionary by themselves..
it doesn't sound right to call it a mid model make over due to lack of new form factor
what gives the name iphone 4 then?

What gives, the 4 it's name? Shit it's be called that by Apple for 1 1/2 years. The number four comes after the number three... Want to call it something else, go ahead, call it the Yohan, the lefthand, the righthand...
By the way, the Galaxy S 2 has a better camera than the 4S.
That still doesn't answer whether 4s should be a new model or mid model make over.
But I will let you believe it's a mid model make over. I will believe it's a 5th generation iphone.
Okay.
