Apple: iPhone News and Discussion Thread
The proximity sensor bug has been fixed which is great thought they never should've released it like that to begin with. HDR photos is nice, though you really don't want to know what I've been using it for! HD uploads to youtube is also nice, before you had to import the video to your PC or Mac and then upload it to get an HD upload. I uploaded my HD xbox kinect video directly with my iPhone on 4.1. Game Center is interesting though I hear Xbox Live on Windows Phone 7 is better. So yeah those are the new features I'm already using

Oh one last feature! FaceTime to an email contact. my friend got the iPod Touch 4G that has the front facing camera. She gave it to me and I setup her iTunes account and registered her email for FaceTime. She called me on it today and we talked for about half an hour. This was my first actual FT call since something went wrong with my JB on 4.0.1 and FT wouldn't work but it's working now on 4.1. It was a nice experience, I mean AV quality could be better but it was good enough. I would now prefer to talk to her over FT (she's pretty) if I could.
I haven't heard of any industry that did it with Apple.
But we tested it and adopted it.
All my production employees were given an iPod touch 4th gen 8gb.
The purpose is to replace all paperwork including their time sheets with this. Wi-fi online, of course. They also have all their email. Icing on the cake is having mobile Skype... a bliss.
Our IT service didn't believe in this at first. All the ipod were restricted with a password and many apps can't be used. The iPod devices (dubbed iProd) work like a charm, are robust and inexpensive.
*We are thrilled so far.*

I am real close to installing 4.1, but my custom theme (illumine) is no longer free. Luckily I got it when I was free, but I really like it. If I upgrade to 4.1 and jailbreak, will all my cracked apps be gone? and speaking of which, all my cracked apps keep disappearing even though I have appsync for 3.1
Any guides on how to back up everything before I JB? I already have limera1n downloaded.

Sync your phone beforehand.
Make a folder to store your cracked apps (just in case), outside of iTunes.
Upgrade, jailbreak and install AppSync 4.1 BEFORE you resync.
If they don't sync, download Installous and manually inject (openssh) your crack and install it via Installous.

that used to happen to me as well costco.
what i used to do was like what v6accord said.. when i download thru installous, i don't delete them, but copy the files over locally and drag/drop in itunes application section
that's sort of like manual sync in a way.. lol
but i think they fixed that in 4.x i don't see it happen anymore

Something I'd like to see in a future FW:
It's extremely annoying to be playing a playlist, and then pause and go watch a video. When you're done, there's no way to resume the audio playlist you were in, it has to be restarted.

Apple delays white iPhone 4 into spring 2011
Posted Oct 26th 2010 7:32PM by Chris Ziegler
Let's just be honest, Apple: white stuff is impossible to manufacture. In fact, scientists have yet to prove that white even exists, so we're not sure why you're bothering to try to make a phone out of it! That's right: after a missed availability date in July and another delay after that, Cupertino has once again pushed back the manufacture of the palest iPhone 4 -- this time clear into spring of 2011. It won't say why, but in all likelihood, they're still dealing with the same manufacturing woes they've had from the start. By the time mid-2011 rolls around, it seems probable that the release will be butting up against news of the iPhone 4's successor -- or at the very least, a CDMA version of the phone -- so it'll be fascinating to see how this timeline unfolds. In the meantime, yeah... might want to give up the wait and go for black.

yeah, you'd be dumb to wait until spring to get one instead of waiting a couple more months and getting the next version.
I guess the iPhone 4 is going to become the $99 phone when the iPhone 5 comes out but the $99 is usually black only

Looks like they fucked up the dock connector-music ability in 4.1.
Fuck you Apple, come on. At this rate I might sell it. May downgrade to 4.0.1 if I don't hear any time frame on 4.2, which they 'claim' fixes the problem. How about not fucking it up every other release in the first place?

While I don't doubt the possibility of a delay. Apple has rarely been off the mark when it comes to software updates whether it's for desktop or mobile.

Maybe I just had it mistaken though. perhaps the 4.2 update is only for the iPad and not the iPhone? I thought it was for both.

I went to the Phoenix concert last night in Orlando and decided to take some video during the concert. I expected the audio to be really distorted since it was so loud but it wasn't it turned out pretty good. I did muffle the mic at the bottom of the phone and just used the mic at the top by the headphone jack. But when I muffled both mics then the it got kinda quiet and the highs were attenuated a lot so mostly the low end was audible. I took a bunch of HDR photo's too and most of them turned out pretty good.
Thanks Apple, but I'm moving on to something else. Take your non-existent white iPhone and shove it
so much fucking BS, my phone was at 75% today after I made a call, I set it down and 15 minutes later it turned off and wouldn't turn on! Had to charge it for a bit, then it was back at 80% again

Yes, because they are the only company that has ever done that. I'm willing to bet that Android, Palm, Blackberry had bugs in their software upon release. I'm willing to bet that even Windows 7 Mobile won't be perfect when it is launched. The problem truly lies in the fact that the people that bitch the most are the ones the fuel the hype in the public's view as to what companies are as you described. Since owning my iPhone I've only had one problem with a software update and I'm not convinced it was a fault of the firmware. My wife's phone, 0 problems after a year of owning it. My MBP, i've had 2 problems in the 3 years of owning it, and my iMac, none. Same goes for my unibody MBP.
