Apple: iPhone News and Discussion Thread
Regarding Siri on the 4 and 3GS I've read on Twitter that the files needed to do it are literally in the 4s. Cydia won't provide these files as pirating has to be done to acquire them off of a 4s. They are not in the .ispw file either. I hope the 4 is fast enough with the A4 chip to process the commands. I played with my friend's 4s and there is a slight delay but opening apps also will be faster on the 4s. Not sure if I'll go through the trouble or just chill with Vlingo.
I thought Siri's command processing was done by Wolfram's servers? The only reason it won't run besides the 4S now is because of a GPU plugin which they're trying to extract and will probably figure out. Siri was available on the other iPhones before the 4S in the app store. It only stopped working on the other phones when the 4S got released. Here's a video of it in action back in the day:

The hugely marketed voice assistant has been shown to be able to send texts and e-mails even when the phone is locked, meaning anyone could send messages to your contacts.
The Siri-hacking came to light after a PCWorld editor accessed a Macworld employee's texts and e-mails via the voice-activated system despite a password lock. The editor sent a mock resignation e-mail to demonstrate the flaw; fortunately he didn't send it to his boss.
The prevention, although easy, isn't what everyday users would expect to need.
Under the password lock screen, users can opt to not let Siri be used whilst the lock is in place. In which case, if the home button is held down, Siri will not activate until the password is entered.

Why isn't that the default option?
Damn. My friend with an iPhone 4 tried right next to me and got 1.5 down/.5 up. Didn't think it'd be that much of a difference, but this is about what I get at home with my wired connection.

i fixed it, i had to go into sounds and touch the ringer and alerts slider once. then the sounds came back on. weird.
We already had a thread on this

That's correct. The problem I'm having may be related to wifi at work. I think they may have some sort of filter because I also never get any Facebook alerts while I am connected.
Go outside and see a cell, and they all pop up.

The home button on my iphone 4 has been becoming quite a nuisance. I will click it to return to the home screen but nothing happens. Whether it be a tap or a hard press it still won't return to the home screen sometimes until I press it up to 5 times til it finally goes back to the home screen.
