I had to call to activate mine with AT&T

It was annoying because I had to have them transfer the phone to a different line (used a different user's upgrade) and it took about 20 minutes.

But yeah. When I powered it up it tried to activate under the other number before I turned it off. Came with SIM inside.

 

Rumor is that the Lightning cable has an Apple authentication chip within the cable.
