Apple: iPad News and Discussion Thread
kibitz all you want, but being a superstar magazine racer doesn't mean you're going to win on Sunday.
Sorry but they iPad 2 and iPhone 4 are not made the same
As you can see the iPad 2 screen is NOT glued to the glass in any way.

While the display on the iphone 4 is

Now you can be like Sarlacc and resort to insults in order to sway people's opinion and to hide the fact that you can't prove what you're saying but I like to actually give facts and evidence instead.
If the screen is drastically better to you than so be it what ever makes you happy. Personally I can't tell a difference at all

You skipped step 4 where they used a heat gun to loosen up the glue. The glue can be clearly seen in the first pic you posted. Looks like it was glued to the LCD to me.

And just like that, it's open. No clips, just tons of glue.

Alright I see the difference. On iPhone 4 glass, digitizer, and LCD is all one piece. This is clearly different. I'm not saying that iPad 2 LCD is not closer to the glass than iPad 1. I have no clue. Now I'm going to go back to something important, Girp.

If you're lucky a VP will see it and send you one for free with a note saying "apple said yes"
True story, it's on engadget but I'm too lazy to dig for it.
I like this article on Anandtech:

In our iPad 2 review I mentioned that despite really liking the device, I never really could integrate the original iPad into my daily life in a meaningful way. I always ended up traveling with the iPad and a notebook or while around town I just kept a smartphone on me. That limited my iPad use to pretty much lounging around at the house, and even then I found myself turning to the laptop more often than not.
With the Xoom and iPad 2 I've been giving the tablet usage model another try. I've kept my usage mostly consumption focused. Browsing the web and reading emails. I really do prefer using a tablet for both of these things. I do wish the iPad 2 was faster when selecting lots of emails but the improvement over the original iPad is still considerable.
My holdup is this: while I love reading on the iPad 2, I have troubles contributing using it. Writing lengthy email responses or even posting comments on AT is just slower on the iPad than on a notebook. The solution can't be to just walk over to a laptop when I want to respond and just use the iPad when I'm reading - that seems horrible inefficient.
I could use a Bluetooth keyboard but that's also rather clunky. I feel like there has to be a better solution going forward, particularly as the tablet market grows. Is it voice? Or some sort of an integrated kickstand with more flexibility than what you get with the smart cover?
I feel like smartphones get a pass because it's easy to type on them regardless of where you're sitting. Tablets on the other hand need to be propped up against something and as a result are harder to type on in certain situations. They work fine on a desk but if I'm at a desk I'd rather use a notebook. What about when laying back on a couch?
I'm curious what you all think about this. Am I alone in finding tablet ergonomics a barrier? If not, what do you believe is the best solution for tablets going forward. I want to read and respond on a tablet as quickly as I can on a notebook. What needs to be built?

^ Totally agree. Hence why I have not embraced the need for a Tablet (i.e. Galaxy, Xoom)...
I can totally make a purchase for one and expense it for "work"...but, honestly, my trusty laptop is more than adequate. It's a neat gimmick at best IMO. I already kinda breached this with bigman et al a few pages back...
If the only purpose of this is machine is so that I can sit on my sofa/bed to surf or look at pretty pictures...eh.

Why? We know you hate it just because it's Apple.
But just because someone else can't integrate it into their lives, doesn't mean others can't.
I also thought that I wouldn't like an iPhone, but with the apps, instead of using it like a small computer and a browser. I love it! I'll be getting an iPad because the apps work so well and it's a bigger screen. I don't have a personal laptop.

I hate typing on the iPad because my hands are too big for it. I like the iPad because it is instant on and has a ton of apps. The iPad is a great device for kids under 10. There is plenty of educational stuff, it really excels in this area. The thing that annoys me the most about it is that it doesn't have multi user support which prevents me from running email and other private things since I share it with my kids. The OS has a way to go before it can be anything but a toy for me.

In order of what I use it for:
-Log Me In Ignition - Used to connect to my home PC's which are connected to clients PC for service.
-IRC Chat
-Pandora
-Games (basic angry birds type)
-Email (although have the Iphone for that)
-Web sometimes (but the Mac Air is better)
-Once in a blue moon Netflix

I use mine a lot...
-Email
-Browsing
-Calendar Management
-Magazines
-Games (Sudoku, Words with Friends, Lexulous, etc.)
-NYT Crossword Puzzles
-Apple TV Control
-Mobile Banking
-Ebay browsing
-Movies (on airplanes)
I have a stand and the bluetooth keyboard at my desk at work to make it easier to type. It comes in handy because my laptop is often tied up chunking away at one huge dataset or another, and the iPad handles e-mail and voice mail far faster than Outlook on the PC does.

I may finally have found a reason to jailbreak my iPad.

Skyfire allows you to view Flash video content on your iPad. When you come across a page that has a Flash error message, just press the video icon on the bottom left and Skyfire servers will analyze the page and stream the video to your iPad. Skyfire uses adaptive streaming to provide you the best quality for the given network conditions.
and the ability to view web pages in either their mobile or desktop version. It's a few bucks but I think its worth it.
