Report: Apple’s 7.85-inch ‘iPad mini’ due later this year
Apple is reportedly planning to launch a smaller version of its popular iPad tablet that will enter production during the third quarter this year at the earliest.
DigiTimes on Thursday reported that Apple’s scaled-down iPad is already being assembled by the company’s manufacturing partners. Samples are currently being delivered to Apple for verification and volume production is rumored to begin in the third quarter.
The new tablet will feature a 7.85-inch display to compete with Amazon’s Kindle Fire and Barnes & Noble’s Nook Tablet, and pricing is expected to fall in the $249 to $299 range according to DigiTimes’s sources.
The site had previously reported that Apple’s “iPad mini,” as some have called it, could launch as soon as the third quarter of 2012.

I'm still waiting for the iPhone nano to come out....
they swore that was coming, apparently people thought the 3.5in screen was TOO big and Apple was making a smaller version.....

With five days to go before Apple unveils its latest iPad, 9to5 Mac has apparently debunked a rumor that Cupertino's new tablet would come with a $70-80 price increase. The hearsay started when MacRumors reported on unconfirmed price comparisons of the iPad 2 and iPad 3 that showed up on a Chinese microblogging site. However, one of 9to5's sources tipped them off that the prices for the new iPad will remain consistent with first two versions, ranging from $499 for 16GB Wi-Fi to $829 for 64GB Wi-Fi + 3G. While this doesn't come as a huge surprise — Apple has set a precedent for iOS device pricing to stay consistent across upgrades — it is a relief to know there isn't going to be a premium for that 264ppi screen and whatever other tricks Apple has up its sleeve. This also puts the kibosh on another rumor: that Apple would be moving to a 8GB iPad 2, 16GB and 32GB iPad 3 lineup this time around.
Of course, final confirmation of this and all the other iPad 3 rumors will have to wait until Apple's official announcement at 10AM PST, on Wednesday, March 7th.

So anyone already sold on the Ipad 3 (or "2s" or w/e its called)? The fiance is wanting to upgrade from her Ipad 1 and I was going to get her an Ipad 2 this week, but then realized the launch event is two days away.
I've never ordered Ipads on launch days, but do they sell out quick?

I'm seriously considering getting the Ipad2S/3/HD
I guess everyone is different, but I could care less about getting my order thru ASAP. If it takes me a day or two to get my order in, I could care less. No difference to me, I don't have to be the first kid on the block with one.

Since I'm a tech toy geek...I don't know, I get this weird anxiety feeling in me on the day its getting released and I HAVE TO have it.
Maybe I should take a xanax on the day of release and I'll be all good after that
There have been rumors flying that the iPad 3 would be LTE capable, and we're told that it will definitely be announced for both the Verizon and AT&T networks tomorrow. To be clear, that would mean two distinct, separate versions of the LTE tablet (one for each network). In addition, there's a third international model which does double duty on 3G; a CDMA / GSM model using a similar radio chipset to the iPhone 4S (a Qualcomm Gobi chip). That's a little odd considering LTE chipsets from Qualcomm can be utilized on those same bands, but there may be reasons (cost for instance) that Apple would want to separate the hardware.
wait so if i get an LTE model, i can only use it as LTE? no 3G backup if i goto an area that doesnt have LTE?
i mean luckily San Francisco has AT&T LTE now, but what if i travel somewhere ?

I'm gonna go with a no on that one. Do you think Apple would release a product the would restrict that many people from using it. LTE is the capability, not the restriction.
Decided to sell my iPad2 to Amazon. They offered $460 for it, but we'll see how much they really offer when they receive it. I could have sold it on eBay for possibly $450-500, but would have had to pay eBay and Paypal fees so at the end of the day it may work out to be the same.
I want to offload this before they announce the new version tomorrow. My guess is that tomorrow Amazon may lower their buy back rate, so I'm lucky that I locked it in today.
Guess I'll be without an iPad for a few months if this works out.
