my 2013 MBA is sitting at 83% right now and the estimated time remaining is 14:55 hours which is unreal.

Just ordered the 13 rMBP with 2.6GHz, 8GB and 512GB SSD
I chose to stick with the integrated graphics because I'll get much better battery life when I run Windows on it. Normally if you run boot camp you're stuck using the discrete graphics and it gets much worse battery life and is hotter when in Windows. They should get similar battery life now.

Yeah my 2010 15 MBP has the matte hi-res screen, bumped to 8GB and a 500gb Seagate hybrid drive (4GB SSD inside) so I'll try selling it on ebay. Better chance for someone looking for the hi-res screen finding it and paying a little extra for it. Gazelle doesn't give a shit about that. They only ask how big is your screen and how fast is the CPU, that's all they care about.

They only give you amazon store credit, but if they give you more money and less hassle than selling on eBay, it's a win-win. And you don't have to worry about the overpriced eBay and Paypal fees.
Try Amazon's Electronic Buy Back program....

I just found out I'm getting an Airport Extreme for Christmas.
Do any of you have experience with them and using the usb port for "AirDisks"? Even more specific, running a hub and running multiple external drives?
How was the performance?

I do not believe you can put multiple disks on it... Could be wrong about that.
Yea but the only thing I'm wanting out of the disk is music and basic docs. No movies. Was curious if anyone had done that yet.
And I believe I read on the Apple site itself it will support a hub.

Assuming the new unit does the same. Which I believe it does as long as it's a powered hub.
Thanks for the help though guys. I'll give it a shot!

Agreed. But I doubt the airport unit even has the computing power to really do anything with that kind of bandwidth.
For what I'm going to use it for (music/docs) it *should* do well. I've already ordered a powered hub for it. So we will see.
We are waiting at work for the storm to pass but I have go ahead to order 3 new mac pros when we deem the time has come. I can't wait.

If Apple were smart they should make an NAS powered by a streamlined/simplified version of OSX that can be paired with the airport extreme, apple tv, or their computer lineup. And even better, allow it to sync to iCloud, but I doubt they would do that because it would eat into their iCloud subscriptions.

And to add to my Apple NAS idea, if done properly, would allow all those individuals, myself included, the ability to move their iMovie catalog off their computer to the NAS instead.

As for native RAID support in OSX, all the more reason an Apple NAS would be successful.
I also agree with all that but you have to remember who Apple targets. And those people who need say a 8TB NAS aren't one of them.
Hell I'm actually surprised they are making a new mac pro. I could see them doing away with that line as well because it targets such a niche market.
And I don't agree with that logic at all. Creating/maintaining the environment is paramount. Even if some of the branches of the tree are small ones.

I've always had the impression that Apple treats it as a backup solution. Otherwise you would have the ability to sync to your company and to iCloud, but alas, you can only choose one right? Many of my friends also treat it as a backup solution.

Because of the what it is or the radical design?
I understand there is some demand. But they aren't expecting to saturate the market with these things.
Personally I'd rather see them go back to making a rack-mountable unit. But I guess these are for power users not servers.
Edit: They will be servers here though.

The big hurdle Apple has is convincing the power users to be ok with external expansion rather then internal. It makes sense, but power users like the fact that they can open the case and do things in there. One of my clients gave me a G5. The thing is huge and heavy, but its a dream to stick things inside of it. But, its huge and heavy.
The design is what Apple has done in the past - different, but different for a reason, just not to be. And yes, while Im sure that they could have made it look like a more typical PC, people like change when its, well, cool.
