So the battery on my Late 2007 model MBP finally gave up and no longer charges. need to get a replacement but I refuse to spend $130 on a new battery directly from Apple. I want to stick with OEM and a number of sellers on eBay are selling them, ranging in price from $55-$90. Have any of you bought a new, OEM battery off eBay? I'm worried that these sellers may not be actually selling brand new Apple Batteries and instead are selling used or aftermarket batteries.

Do you guys know where I can find one for cheap?

You know you can change the size of things up to 500%. Control Panel > Display > Custom Sizing Options > You're Welcome....

In my 30 years of using computers I never knew that.

i ended up just changing the resolution on the windows side to 1920x1200. this brings the log in screen to a usable resolution.

seems like those dpi settings have no effect on the log in screen either. thanks for the tip though!

fastmac batteries may be cheaper. They are a respected 3rd party.

There is no OS wide scaling in a Mac, except on the retina.

There may be a workaround third party utility though. I looked into it before but didn't find an easy way

Sly, I had to replace the battery for my 2007 MBP as well. As much as I didn't want to, I just bought a new one from Apple.

I've had it for about a year and it's marginally better than the last one. I usually get about 2 hours out of a full charge

I got a little impulsive and went ahead and picked up an OEM battery from the Apple Store. I didn't want to buy a third party battery.

Only 2 hours? What do you do on it? Are you running ML? I run the brightness pretty low on mine so that greatly extends battery life and I also try to kill any processes that I don't need, but I've heard that ML also kills battery life, but don't know how much truth there is to that. I did noticed a big jump in charge duration after I installed ML, but now I don't know if that was due to the battery starting to go out.

Oops, typo! I meant to say 3 hours on a full charge.

What's ML?

Same as you do, I keep my brightness down and don't run programs that I'm not using at that time.

With basic internet browsing and iTunes running I get around 3 hours on a full charge. Right now my battery is at 46% with an estimated 1h 8m remaining until dead.

I have an app called "Battery Health" that I got for free from the App Store. Here are some basic stats about my battery:

Battery Health
Original Max: 5500
Current Max: 4148

Cycles: 477
Age: 1.6 years

Time Remaining with Firefox, Excel, and iTunes running: 1h 10m

I used Battery Health as well to monitor my battery before it went out. It was reading that it was able to hold a charge of 85% of it's original max. I didn't think it would die on me so quickly though.

ML = Mountain Lion. I'll check what my battery states for how long it will last on a full charge and report back.

Might be ML's new fancy shmancy power nap feature.

Edit: nvm it's disabled by default on battery.

And it's not even available at all on older MBP like mine.

The issue is a lot more widespread than I originally thought. Here is a 141 page thread with users talking about how poor their battery life is immediately after upgrading to Mountain Lion. https://discussions.apple.com/thread...=2100&tstart=0

At the top of Page 141, someone posted that the 10.8.2 update is possibly around the corner and may be released around the same time as iOS 6. I really hope this is true because my brand new battery I just bought last weekend can only keep my computer powered for a little over 2 hours whereas my previous battery when new was able to power this computer for 4 1/5 hours, sometimes more.

News about 10.8.2: http://appleinsider.com/articles/12/...minent_release; however, no mention of fixing power issue, although that may be because they don't want to draw attention to it.

Tempted to pick up a refurb mac mini for $519 from the Apple Store, add some RAM and replace my aging mini.

Would really like have the mini updated with newer hardware, but my patience to replace what I have is wearing thin.

After tax you'll only be paying slightly less than getting a new one on amazon (unless you have to pay on amazon)

IIRC it was only a $20-$40 difference, so I bought new for my mom.

Although I'm tempted toget a Mac mini for myself, but I'm waiting for an update. Or a 13" retina MBP.

I maxed out my son's mini (2011) and it flies, but I would wait for the new one.

Yup, very good time to wait as a new Mac Mini is around the corner...

I'm really hoping this time around they switch up the casing on it and go with a more rectangle box than a square. then you could stand it up and have it take up less space on your desk than the square design and depending on the height of the rectangle design they could set it up to have 4 SSD drive slots instead of 2 and have raid capability.

I put 8gb on my moms base 2011 mini and it doesn't run THAT fast.

Sometimes loading programs takes ages.

Did you put a SSD in it?

I have a four year old C2D mini that just sits in the closet. But it's starting to get a bit flaky and the mini display port is giving me fits.

I don't need the latest, but I am all for having the latest. Last revision was July 2011. Time to step it up Apple.
