Android: Phone News and Discussion Thread
So been busy the past two days so have not used my phone terribly much but it gave me a good gauge on standby time. According to the stats I have used 3hrs and 30min of on screen time and just under 10min of phone calls which was 3 calls made all on bluetooth. I have used it for countless texts during that on screen time. Total time once I just reached 1% left was 1 day and 9 hours or 33hrs total which I find very impressive.
When my moto x was new i was pulling 4 hours screen on time, but when i get more/different apps i use, i usually get about 3 hours on screen time now. Currently I'm at 13hours off charger, 19% with 3h screen on time. I also have my work email, plus two other emails synced to the phone now. Thats also another factor.

went to a "Drink & Click" meetup on Saturday, and one of the regular participants there had the Oppo phone... (not sure which model). The funny thing is, she was a total iPhone user before and at the last meetup, she was checking out my Note 3. I didn't say anything to trash talk iPhones or whatever, I just figured she'll either like the bigger Android screen or not. Next thing I know she totally jumps ship over to Android with a humongous phone lol. This thing made my phone looked small

I'm having data issues with my Note 2 via ATT. For the last 2 days I'll temporarily lose data and then like a minute later it comes back on. I've already tried powering down and removing the battery. Anyone else know of this?

T-Mobile wanted $650 to put me on the pre-sale list for the S5, no thanks. Bought the Nexus 5 (32 GB) to replace my Nexus 4 for $399. Added the wireless charger for $49.99. Can't wait :gheywave:
Those of you with the Nexus 5 hows the reliability??
I'm really happy with this Motorola, best value for price.
My 7 would have been better but if i squeeze it between the back and some side it creeks and it restarts like every day.
The Moto X has been perfectly reliable so far.

I've had my N5 since early November and I love it so far. Build quality is good as is screen. It's fast and has proven to be stable. No complaints here. Size good and no problem. Last few phones were iphones.
I've been using my HTC ONE for quite a while now.. I'm getting used to the whole Android thing and actually starting to like it... Really, my only biggest gripe is that I can't charge my phone and use navigation at the same time. It won't charge. I get the error that says "Your phone is using more power than it is taking and cannot charge".. I've even tried using a 2.1amp charger and it still wouldn't charge. Tried different cords and nothing. Frustrating.

Never had that issue. Turn off services like WiFi until you drop down enough.

I will say this thou, if the 5.5" iPhone rumor doesn't happen, I will switch to the note 4 or better/equivalent.
nexus 5 owner since Oct. 31st!
no problems at all.
ive read some N5's have a screen leak, or produce a light through the screen, but mine hasnt done that. and doesnt seem like it will any time soon.
im using a LG branded flip case for the phone and its kept it in wonderful condition.

This is what I have. Works great.
Only thing I don't like about it is that it has a single-point light to indicate it is charging and is quite bright. I might try the SPN5400A next or just put something to diffuse the light on this one.

Welp, I think I'm going to have to factory reset my Note 2. Even with a new SIM I'm getting data outages. My contacts are backed up to my Google, my pics to my laptop, my texts are backed up, most of my music is on a cloud or service, I think I got everything covered. Will the phone remember my apps too or do I have to manually install those again? I know there's an app to provide a list of apps that you have but should I use it. What else am I missing?
Oh I also copied the calendar and notes files from the phone to my laptop. Can I just copy those back in after the reset?

The screen is 5.9".
It's a pretty nice phone, very nice build quality.
Not the fastest phone on the block - the swivel camera/flash is neat, but I never take pictures with my phone.
There's no way in hell apple goes 5.5" unless they make mutiple phones. There are many many iphone users who do not want a noticably larger phone, and apple will kill that segment if they go 5.5". Pocketability and onehandedness takes a major dive when you creep above 5".

I sync my calendar to google calendar so that's not an issue. You might be able to import but it totally depends on your app.
You can use apps like Helium or Titanium backup to backup all your current apps, and then restore them to your phone after you reset. That's what I use when I flip to a different ROM.
It's a bit chunky and it also has a light on it, but that's alright.
Also try different cables - it can make a huge difference.

Also because of the whole Samsung/apple litigation an internal email was released with apple stating they need to catch up to google in certain features including screen sizes.

Can't wait for the OnePlus One phone.

now when I hold any other phones they just seem so small
I was fiddling with my friends note II on Friday, he said he initially loved the scteen size but now hates it because its hard to do shit one handed. I think I'll still like it. I rarely use my iPhone one handed anyways.

ColorOS 2.0 on the Oppo has a clever deal where you can trigger an action that lets you drag the entire screen down to reach hard to reach buttons.
I almost never use phones one handed, so I can max out my screen size to ridiculous extents.

Man we need that Oppo and the Sony here.
Frank, thanks the tip on Helium. I restored last night and my texts and info are there. It does take a long time to restore those texts and burns through battery but worth it. Phone works normal again and a lot of crap was cleaned out.

I generally have large pockets, but the N1 has definitely blown the limits on some of my pants. Still okay though. I'd be willing to give up capacitive buttons for a larger screen.

they encourage things like flashing roms and carriers don't like that all.
I really like a program called sms backup+ which backs up your text messages into gmail. I don't need to restore everything back onto my phone, and I can search them via google, which is nice.
I really wish more carriers would have cheaper no-phone plans -
it would allow users to still use their service and buy whatever full priced/used phone they wanted.
