How bout that Jonathan Sanchez? The Giants have something special going on this year, and their young pitching has been fantastic. Maybe they really will win the WS before I die.

Go Giants!

I love this deal. Church is done. Francoeur has a much higher ceiling

You guys and the Reds are very similar these days. Lots of good young pitching starting to develop but no offense to support them

And if it wasn't bad enough for us right now, Jay Bruce breaks his wrist the other night

Hopefully this time off will let him clear his mind and get out of this slump. Hitting around .210 and striking out as much as he was was ridiculous...he looked like the second coming of Rob Deer out there

I'm just hoping that down the stretch they can play spoiler. I would be happy if they finish 0.500 or better, 2nd in the division and 3rd or 4th in the Wild Card. I think they can do that.

The Giants have offense on the way. Buster Posey was just promoted to AAA, and Pablo Sandoval is already breaking out at 22. I think he's going to win a batting title someday. The kid can really swing it, and he has pop too. If they don't make a deal for a name bat this year, they probably will in the off season. I really think they aren't far from making a strong run.

To me, good pitching is the hardest commodity to come by in baseball, so I'll take the Giants situation. They also have two young stud arms at AA Connecticut, Madison Bumgarner and Tim Alderson, who have torn it up everywhere they've been so far. Bumgarner in particular looks really promising. Their pitching is going to be good for years.

BTW, my wife, her mom and I will be catching the Reds at Dodger Stadium next week. You know who I'll be pulling for.

Too many teams are close. I'm reading that it will be very difficult for deals to be made. I hope the Phillies don't get Halladay because then they'll probably pull away. I hope we don't stay status quo because we don't have the talent to sustain in September.

Phillies just signed Pedro to a 1 year $1 million contract, and immediately put him on the 15-day DL

Probably so that they don't have to demote/designate for assigment someone until Pedro is back in shape. He'll probably throw some sessions in the meantime unless he's really hurt. But then if he failed the physical, they wouldn't sign him yet.

Good to hear. I don't get to see much of SF since I'm eastern time zone and all, but I really like Lincecum and Cain. Maybe we'll be beating you next year in the NLCS

And very cool on the game! I'm going to see the Reds/Padres on the 28th. Half price tickets through work FTW

After watching Micah Owings the other night followed by Homer Bailey, I can only conclude you guys really need some starting pitching. Owings looked as bad as anyone I've seen this year. He lost to Jason Schmidt for cryin' out loud. Quite a few Reds fans at the game though.

God I hate the Dodgers.

CHICAGO -- Mark Buehrle pitched the first perfect game in the major leagues in five years, leading the Chicago White Sox over the Tampa Bay Rays 5-0 on Thursday.

Buehrle (11-3) got a great catch from center fielder Dewayne Wise leading off the ninth inning to save the bid -- and the shutout. Wise entered at the start of the inning as a defensive replacement and when Gabe Kapler led off with a drive to deep left-center, Wise sprinted and, on a dead run, jumped and got his glove above the fence to rob Kapler of a home run.

Michel Hernandez struck out, and with fans chanting Buehrle's name, Jason Bartlett grounded to shortstop. Buehrle was mobbed by teammates between the mound and first base.

In the interview, Buerhle said he bought all his teammates watches when he threw his no-no.

He said he will have to go a little bigger with the gifts this time.

You guys will crash and burn in due time

Meanwhile, we will sell away some garbage for some young guys and make our run next year

Yeah, we just need some consistency. I don't know what's up with Harangutan, Volquez needs to stay healthy, Cueto is on his way, Arroyo needs traded or released (the most inconsistent of them all), and Bailey needs to get his shit together, although I often forget how young he is.

And Owings is just...yeah. He needs to be converted into an outfielder or something just so he can get some at-bats everyday

Our bullpen is really good though...lots of veterans that can be traded for prospects and a good line of young guys on the way up.

I'm happy for Buehrle, he seems like a good guy. I think he owes DeWayne Wise a new car or something for that effort

He's always been a solid pitcher too. And if you look at the list of other pitchers who have thrown more than one no no... he's with the best ever.

Wise's catch was fucking ridiculous - he was WHEELIN' it to that wall
