Whoa...there's definitely some names on there I have absolutely no recollection that scored a goal (i.e. Rhodes, Noronen, Mason, and Ward).

I guess if you want to score as a goaltender, try against the Devils.

D'oh, forgot that the 1979 team was the Colorado Rockiedevils, they win with 3. But doesn't Marty's 3 kinda equal it out a bit?

Good game last night, Giguere played ridiculously. Stopped 34 shots, and the pens had 22 more that were blocked. They threw everything they had at him, including a couple players

What is next? Asteroid hits the team plane?

http://espn.go.com/new-york/nhl/stor...delphia-flyers

GREENBURGH, N.Y. -- New York Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist will miss Thursday's game in Philadelphia because of an unspecified injury. He will not back up during the game, either.

That means that the recently-recalled Cam Talbot will get the first NHL start of his career. The 26-year-old was brought up from the AHL last week after the team waived Martin Biron.

Asked about the "minor issue" hampering Lundqvist, coach Alain Vigneault said it has been something the former Vezina Trophy winner has been dealing with for the past 10 days.

However, Vigneault indicated that the injury was not serious and said the team saw this as an opportunity for Lundqvist to get healthy.

"If this would've been a playoff game, he'd probably would have been playing," Vigneault said. "It's something that's day-to-day that we think we can nip it in the bud. It may take a day or maybe two, but it's something he should be able to turn the page on and won't hear about it anymore."

Vigneault confirmed that Lundqvist (2-4-0, 3.45 GAA) has been playing through the injury, which was described as both "nagging" and "irritation", though he downplayed its impact.

Lundqvist recorded his first shutout of the season with a strong performance against the Washington Capitals last Wednesday, but faltered against New Jersey this past weekend. The 31-year-old netminder surrendered four goals in the team's 4-0 loss to New Jersey.

"It wasn't anything significant," Vigneault said. "He played real well in Washington but it acted up again during the [New] Jersey game."

With Lundqvist out, the Rangers will get to see what they have in Talbot, who usurped Biron for the backup position just last week. Jason Missiaen will be recalled to serve as backup goaltender.

"I'm confident he's going to play well," Vigneault said of Talbot. "I'm hoping our guys rally around this young man. ... It's a moment he'll remember for the rest of his life."

Talbot, who played three years of collegiate hockey at the University of Alabama-Huntsville, is 4-0-1 with the Hartford Wolf Pack (AHL) this season with a goals against average of 2.49 and a .924 save percentage.

"I've been waiting a long time for this, working toward this, so I'll be ready if I get the call," Talbot said Wednesday.

"I'm extremely excited. It's every kid's dream growing up playing hockey, to get a chance to play the NHL. I can't wait until that time comes."

Scott is getting at least 3 games because his hearing isn't until the 31st. I'm wondering if the league is going to come down hard on him and Buffalo in general over this latest incident. Rolston has already been fined for Scott's Kessel incident.

I'm all for keeping fighting in hockey, I want fighting in hockey. But you have to have a point on the ice other than fighting and that's all John Scott brings to the table, he has no point being in a hockey game other than to be in a fight, he's a liability in every other aspect of the game.

Yeah...Parros, Scott, Westgarth, and McIntyre...just naming the players who I think of at the moment that serve no other purpose other than to hurl fists...

Not sure if their role has a place in the game anymore. It's just too fast and skilled for their ilk...and yet, some teams still find the need for them. So, go figure.

When Scott was on the Hawks, he was basically a liability unless he fought. He was slow and generally, a pylon. The joke was that he put the other team on the PP when he was on the ice because it was 5-on-4. Still, all of these fighters are just such good guys off the ice...you just wonder if there is really that sort of malice in their game.

I know that it seems like BS...but, when Scott was interviewed yesterday about his hit on Loui, I kinda do believe him when he said that he was not trying to kill the Bruin. I dunno...

Sorry it happened. I DO know that a player like Raffi Torres? Should be outright banned.

So, with some of the head-hunters we have today, what are you thoughts of Scott Stevens if he were to be playing the game now?

As legendary as he is or a big-time dirty player in the Torres ilk? Just asking.

That's a trick question. If he played now and played the same as he did, he'd end up being labeled dirty. It all depends on how he would have played if he were playing today. He could have adapted his play and still been successful or keep it the same and be another Torres.

Well, I would've been referring to him playing the way we know him. Not sure if he toned it down would he have been as good as he was...

agreed, it's hard to compare then and now, as the league and rules are so different now

Congrats on the win. Detroit is a bit of mess right now and its only appropriate we should lose to a team which can't score goals and sports a goaltender with a whopping two starts in the league.

Should be interesting to see where Filppula and Weiss finish the year points-wise since Holland basically pulled a one for one signing which I'm not convinced is an upgrade (yet).

There's just too many variables we don't have answers to. Stevens might have adapted his game and become even better than we remember him. Who's to say he couldn't have adjusted and thrived. It's also possible he would have completely sucked without being able to play with his physical edge.

We've definitely moved to a style where what used to be "playing on the edge" is now "crossing the line".

That and as Moogelino has raised numerous times, not allowing players to police themselves.

Obviously, players are also much bigger, stronger, better trained, better equipped and the game overall is much faster, yet the playing surface is the same size.

The perverse argument of having less shoulder and elbow padding somehow makes sense to me.

Less padding is not that perverse an argument. It's widely recognized that bare knuckle boxing was safer than the padded glove boxing we know today. Before the introduction of padded gloves, boxers avoided the skull like the plague. Hitting a skull with your hand was more likely to damage your hand than their skull.

If you take away some of the armor, you take away some of the fearlessness of the player. When you have to risk hurting yourself to lay a big hit you might lay off the hit a bit.

We are sucking & luck has certainly not been on our side. Considering being thrown into the deep end I think Talbot has done very well even though he lost at Philly.

I did not know it had been 16 years without a win in Detroit for the Rangers.

Good, if my memory is correct he has 58 points in 51 games vs the Bruins. Now if we can just get the NYI moved to the western conference I'll be happy.

About to lose my mind at the game last night.

48 shots and only one goal. Bachman in his debut was everywhere. Guy gave up very few rebounds.

Sometimes it's just "your night". No way that game needed to go into a shoot out.
