Well, he doesn't strike me as a dirty player and he certainly is not an enforcer. Chirpy, annoying? and the Wings need a bit more of that. The fact that you and blackack both dislike him should probably make me like him more. Under the right coach, I think his game would flourish and Hockeytown certainly has no tolerance for flopping diving pansy turtles.
Maybe I'm wrong but I don't think the wings would see him as a good fit. No doubt the he's talented and I wouldn't say he is a "dirty" player either but I think he's lacking the sportsmanship and grit required to play for a US original 6 team. Boston, NYR, Chicago and Detroit seem to put a bit more importance on overall "toughness" than the 2 north of the border teams. He's right where he belongs in Montreal on the diving team.

Word on the street for the new schedule:

Each team plays: 4 games vs. two Divisional opponents (8); 5 games vs. two divisional opponents (10); 3 games vs 10 Conference rivals (30)

I think they are smoking some good stuff in Toronto.

Fire Burke NOW?!?!?

Why not just fire him after missing the playoffs last year, and bring somebody new in before the off season transactions of the summer?!?!

...or maybe Burke wanted didn't want to sell the whole store for Luuuuuuuuu...and then they told him to hit the bricks.

Pass the pipe, Leafs fans!!!!

I think it signals the beginning of the end...ie Burke would not sign Luuuu....so they found someone who would do the dirty dead to deep six the Leafs for another decade.

Rumor has it that the birdies are going to play the Kings for the home opener when the banner will be raised.

Must be something wrong with my memory...While I know "canuck" is a term for Canadians, I could've also sworn it was a bird too.

Oh well, don't care.

But they got his lackey Nonis running the ship and BB is staying on as a consultant so I don't expect much change. WTF is with the timing?? Something must have happened....

IMO, things are only going to get worse. The guy now in charge of all of MLSE was in charge of the worst franchise in the MLS for the last 5 years, Tom Anselmi. The guy has been a complete disaster with the Toronto FC so they give him the big job? Typical bad decisions. And yesterday the FC hired a new coach who's still playing in Europe and won't be available until after the season starts?? I can't see it getting any better in the Arena.

NHL owners approve CBA; players' vote up next

NEW YORK - The NHL board of governors rubber-stamped the details of the league's new 10-year collective-bargaining agreement with players, leaving only the NHL Players' Association ratification as the only event needed for the 2012-13 season to start on Jan. 19.

The owners' vote was unanimous, Boston Bruins owners Jeremy Jacobs said.

Commissioner Gary Bettman began his news conference by apologizing to players, sponsors and fans.

He said the fact that deal is for 10 years "guarantees our attention will stay where it belongs: on the ice."

It's expected that the players will accept the deal by Saturday, allowing training camps to open on Sunday.

Bettman said that Olympic participation and realignment will be dealt with later.

The new deal, reached Sunday just before 5 a.m., ET on Day 113 of the lockout, allows for the two sides to split hockey-related revenue 50-50. In the previous CBA, players received 57%.

Bettman reviewed details of the deal Wednesday at the board of governors meeting,

The new deal also changes the individual contract structure, limiting players to no more than seven years unless they are re-signing with their team. Then, they are allowed an eighth season.

For the first time, teams can also share salary cap hits on a traded player. For example, if Montreal wanted to trade Scott Gomez, the Canadiens could agree to pay half of his salary and retain half of the cap hit. Another new feature is that players will be allowed to meet with potential suitors before the July 1 free agent signing period begins.

So, is there anywhere in that where it states that Bettman is to be fired immediately?

Leafs in Space!!!!!!!

LONGUEUIL, Que. — Orbiting Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield remains steadfast in his life-long love for the National Hockey League’s Toronto Maple Leafs.

When the end of the NHL lockout was first announced, Hadfield showed his support for the team by tweeting a picture of himself holding a Leafs plaque.

That didn’t sit well with many hockey fans, including former Canadian astronaut Marc Garneau, who fired off a tweet promoting the Montreal Canadiens.

During his first news conference from the International Space Station today, Hadfield was asked his feelings about the Canadiens. He replied he is pleased the NHL is starting up and that he is looking forward to watching the games when they’re piped up to the space station.

The native of Sarnia, Ont., says the Leafs were the first team he fell in love with and that he has been loyal to Toronto his whole life. The Canadian space veteran joked that the Leafs are still unbeaten and he is hoping that will continue through the season.
