but...yea.
FWIW Jamie is a great guy, I've talked to him a few times....he's a somewhat "local" guy does goaltending clinics & private instruction.
Sad that the Kings organ-eye-zation never developed him well at all.
He had such promise back in the day.

Sorry, dude.
This Blues team is kinda a crash the net one. So, hope Quick et al are ready for a rough and tumble series cuz St. Louis is not the turtling, chickenbleep team that the Cansucks are...

Stolen from another board (re: McSorley's stick):
Amen.
Jacques Demers disrupted the natural progression of the series with the call for the stick inspection. Bad JuJu. The Habs cursed all of Canada. They offended the hockey gods by selling their souls for glory. No Canadian team has won the Stanley Cup since this atrocity, against the will of all that is decent, occurred.
Only when the Los Angeles Kings hoist Lord Stanley's Cup in a glorious parade down Figueroa, will the hockey gods be appeased, and Canada will once again have a chance at bringing their greatest trophy back to the true North. Until that day, Canada shall remain in the dark days of cuplessness along side the Kings of LA. This is why EVERY Canadian should be rooting for the Kings!

DREGER: LEAFS, HAWKS, FLORIDA TEAMS IN RUNNING FOR LUONGO
Canucks general manager Mike Gillis will speak with star goaltender Roberto Luongo in the next few days.
Luongo has declared a willingness to waive his no-trade clause - if the Canucks ask him to do so.
It's believed Luongo would prefer moving back to Florida, provided there's interest from either the Florida Panthers or the Tampa Bay Lightning.
The Toronto Maple Leafs and Chicago Blackhawks are also on the 33-year-old goalie's list, although Luongo could have reservations accepting a trade to either team given the fiercely competitive market that feeds off the Maple Leafs and the emotional scars that may still exist from his battles with the Blackhawks.
And Chicago, Toronto and Tampa Bay are in need of stability in goal.
The Leafs will show an interest in Luongo, but his status as an elite goaltender is fading. The team that lands him should expect quality play for the next 3-5 years, which leaves the additional six years remaining on his contract of predictable risk.
So the Canucks may have to take a contract back to sweeten the pot.
If we use the Maple Leafs as the example, perhaps defenceman Mike Komisarek (who has two years remaining at $4.5 million per) is asked to be part of such a deal?
The bottom line is that there will be trade interest in Luongo.
How much depends in how creative the Canucks are willing to get to move him.
With Cory Schneider about to become a restricted free agent and a year away out from unrestricted free agency, much of the Canucks' offseason will be spent focused on its crease.

Kerry Fraser:
Retired but still bringing the funney:
http://www.cbssports.com/nhl/blog/ey...een-disallowed
Kerry Fraser spent many, many years as an NHL referee, and from what I recall was never one of the more popular ones (not that any of them are popular). Now that he's retired, he writes about officiating for TSN and always offers some pretty interesting insight as to what happens during an NHL game and why the game gets called the way it does.
He's also probably not going to be very popular in Washington at the moment.
In his latest entry, Fraser answers a question from a reader asking about the contact that took place between Capitals forward Mike Knuble and Bruins goalie Tim Thomas on Joel Ward's game-winning goal on Wednesday night.
Fraser responds that it's possible that the goal could have been disallowed due to the contact, citing NHL rule 69.1.
It would defy logic to maintain that rule 69, as it is written, was not sufficiently violated for the referee to disallow this goal.
Rule 69.1 — "Interference on the Goalkeeper...Goals should be disallowed only if: (1) an attacking player, either by his positioning or by contact, impairs the goalkeeper's ability to move freely within his crease or defend his goal; or (2) an attacking player initiates intentional or deliberate contact with a goalkeeper, inside or outside of his goal crease.
"The overriding rationale of this rule is that a goalkeeper should have the ability to move freely within his goal crease without being hindered by the actions of an attacking player. If an attacking player enters the goal crease and, by his actions, impairs the goalkeeper's ability to defend his goal, and a goal is scored, the goal will be disallowed."
Mike Knuble was not pushed, shoved or fouled by a defending player so as to cause him to come into contact with Thomas. It matters not if the contact on Thomas by Knuble was deemed to be deliberate or incidental other than a minor penalty that might result. What matters most is that all the elements of rule 69.1 were violated and the goal should have been waved off.
You can read the rest of Fraser's explanation by clicking here.
Whether or not Fraser's interpretation of the rule is correct I'm absolutely positive of one thing: Unless a goalie is physically tackled by an attacking player (or sat on by one) there is no way that goal, or one like it, is going to be disallowed in that situation. No. Way. It's just not going to happen. Not in a Game 7. Not in overtime.

Trolling Canuckistan
Three things....
1)
2)The check swing at the goalie. Could it have warranted an unsportsmanlike if the refs wanted to call it, sure. Honestly though, I have no problem with it and in a way kinda like it. Holtby initiated the exchange with contact and in the end Peverly didn't touch Holtby at all.
3)You're gonna find racist idiots in any town, unfortunately the internet makes their nonsense more public.

Luongo to Hawks? Nope, not going to happen: http://espn.go.com/blog/chicago/blac...oing-to-happen
But, hey. Who knows...though, as I said earlier, it's unlikely, the math doesn't make sense nor do the logic.

With the Devils just winning, it's time to mourn the untimely elimination of the Florida Panthers (ok, that's enough) and the end of the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
I went 4-for-8 in the first round, which is awful, and my colleague Robert Harding did worse (3-for-8).
Considering how awful we did in the first round, I'm sure readers can't wait for our conference semifinal predictions.
Eastern Conference
No. 1 New York Rangers vs. No. 7 Washington Capitals
Prediction: Rangers in six.
This seems like the classic tale of two teams heading in opposite directions. The Capitals toppled the No. 2 Bruins, while the Rangers took seven games to eliminate the No. 8 Senators.
Even with that in mind, Washington -- and Braden Holtby's -- luck is up. New York is a very good team with four lines that know their role, a good D corps and a good goaltender, and I think the first round will be more of a hiccup than a sign of things to come.
No. 5 Philadelphia Flyers vs. No. 6 New Jersey Devils
Prediction: Flyers in five.
As the Devils and Panthers went to overtime, I had a hard time wondering anything besides 'What does this matter? Either team will lose to the Flyers in the next round.'
Forget about the Kings sending the Canucks packing. The Penguins were the hot team heading into the playoffs, and the Flyers took them off their game and, at least at the beginning of the series, handled Pittsburgh with ease.
Paul Holmgren didn't get a nod as a candidate for general manager of the year, but he absolutely deserves it in my mind. His ballsy moves of trading Jeff Carter and Mike Richards for Brayden Schenn, Wayne Simmonds, Jakub Voracek and picks has paid off in spades, and to me, is the reason the Flyers are in round two.
Western Conference
No. 2 St. Louis Blues vs. No. 8 Los Angeles Kings
Prediction: Blues in six.
After eliminating the top-seeded Canucks, the Kings seem to be the easy pick. Simply put -- some teams get hot at the right time. With Richards, Carter, Kopitar, Brown, etc…it's easy to wonder why the Kings were even a No. 8 seed to begin with.
But my prediction for coach of the year, Ken Hitchcock, has finally found a team that will have success with his defense-first system (read: not the Blue Jackets). With two goaltenders that look like solid No. 1s, it's hard to worry about the health or Jaroslav Halak.
St. Louis has a mix of veteran leadership like Andy McDonald and young talent like David Perron, and I think looked poised to make it to the Stanley Cup Finals.
No. 3 Phoenix Coyotes vs. No. 4 Nashville Predators
Prediction: Coyotes in seven.
I was wrong about the Predators in one aspect. They beat the Red Wings. I still stick by this team not going any farther.
It's not even me picking the Coyotes -- which like the Red Wings, I feel are a superior team. I'm picking against the Predators.
Nashville used to have an admirable (or Admiral, get it?) farm system, and would frequently bring up top talent when they were ready for the big time. This deadline, they seemed to forsake all of that for the sake of bringing in new guys.
They traded away a first round pick for third/fourth line center Paul Gaustad, reunited Andrei Kostisyn with underachieving little brother Sergei, and after the deadline allowed Alexander Radulov to return to the team despite abandoning them just a few years ago to return to Russia.
I believe in character, and to me, Nashville is sorely lacking.
What happens if I'm right:
The conference finals would be a rematch of the Winter Classic with the Rangers hosting the Flyers. On the other hand, you have a pair of unusual teams that haven't had a lot of recent -- if any -- playoff success, with the Coyotes taking on the Blues.
After getting burned by the Canucks in round one, I wasn't sure about making my pick for Stanley Cup champions. If this round of predictions are right -- and they surely won't be -- I'm picking the Flyers over the Rangers and the Blues over the Coyotes. In the finals I pick -- and I hate to say it -- Philadelphia.
But that, of course, is subject to change.
