The console doesn't come with a headset and there is no headset available by Sony at the moment. In addition, you are correct in that not all games support this feature - MS has a standard online API that all games utilize, while for PS3, each developer has to add their own online features (leaderboards, friends list support, voice chat, etc.)

I believe I read you can buy a 3rd party headset, but they are bluetooth and pretty expensive. Since it is really rare, I doubt many if anyone will use it.

Because I own a PS3.

God forbid I share some of the things that I would like to see improved about the system here.

Name one thing that I have posted here in this thread that is incorrect or shut the fuck up with your criticism and start making posts that actually have meaning instead of the drivel I just quoted.

I would say that is incorrect. there are plenty of headsets out there, and probably better than the one that comes with the premium 360

well, that's a no brainer... anything aftermarket will (almost) always be better than the one that comes with the system... but at least M.S. have the courtesy for the consumers to throw in something with the package so you can use right out of the box...

oh, and I come to this thread, because I do plan on buying (another) PS3 eventually... (in case you weren't following... I returned my un-opened one, so I can buy it from Costco, when they get their's)

Sony just announced at CES that they've SHIPPED (but not sold) 1-million PS3's. Xbox SOLD over 1.5 million units during it's first holiday season and has sold over 10 million since.

Ouch.

I also posted this in our 2007 CES Coverage Thread.

It's sad to say that I likely will be putting my PS3 plans on the back-burner indefinitely. The X360 does everything i need it to, so no point in getting the PS3... and honestly... I don't even want one anymore. I'll likely get a Wii for upstairs as my next system... which is saying a lot considering how anti-Wii I once was...

I think Sony really messed this one up...

Same.

The only way I'd end up with a PS3 is if they manage to create some killer new game franchise that I have to play... OR... I decide it's the best Blu-ray player solution. However, this is unlikely with all the 2nd gen blu-ray devices being announced with prices as low as $600. Plus the dual-format player out now.

As for the Wii, I definately want one. I had no interest in it until recently, it just looks like a whole lot of good old fashioned fun. More like a home arcade machine then a gaming console. Definate "game room" must have.

damn Nintendo really scored w/ the Wii...

as for Sony's machine... too much, too little, too late... too bad.

Nintendo kept it simple and scored.

And this is exactly where it would be going. Once I was able to look past the graphics of the system I could see it for what it really is... and it is a perfect fit in our game room...

Yeah once you stop looking at the Wii as an Xbox/PS3 competitor and look at it more like a competitor to your air hockey table it becomes attractive

I was the same way...I was super gung-ho about getting a ps3, but when it was so hard to get, I started to realize that the games just weren't there yet, and the 360 had it beat in the games and price department. Now I'm really happy with my decision, as the 360 is all I need, at half the price, with better games. As soopa said, I may look into the ps3 if some great games out out (GT 5? the F1 game looks good too), but this probably won't be for another 6 months at least.

Although as they become more available, I will have to use willpower not to buy a new shiney gadget.

As for the wii....i agree, once you forget about the graphics, you can start having fun. But besides zelda, what good games are out that warrant the console purchase (wii sports doesn't count)?

^ A friend of mine said Madden was a blast with the motion system... so that may be something to scoop up.

I wouldn't get a Wii now either... but it's safe to say that sometime in 2007 I should own one...

yeah....key motion sensing integration will be key in the ps3.....and I don't think that ports will cut it...they need games specifically designed with that in mind.

Dang, that's a lot of inventory on the PS3! I don't feel bad for Sony at all because they did this onto themselves.

Have a gut feeling that the PS3 will follow the way the Sega Saturn did in the USA possibly.

I think PS3's will start selling in the fall and more next year. Right now, GTHD is prlly the only reason to buy one.

They'll definitely pickup in sales once some good games start coming out for it... just like the 360 gained momentum 6-8 months after launch.

Thing is... how bad will Sony's rep be tarnished by the time that happens? That only remains to be seen...

in defense of sony....the 360 had A LOT of hardware problems when it first came out....lots of random hardware issues (three red flashes, anyone?), disc read errors, overheating, etc. The PS3 has had issues too, but I guess my point is that most of these high tech systems have issues when they first come out. I bet it's even arguable that ps3s have less tech issues than the 360 did at launch. and 360 had shitty games when it came out too. so I'm sure the PS3 will mature into a sucessful console. I bet they they up the quality of the development tools in the process, becuase at this point, lack of good games is the focus of criticism, and the sony people have got to be nervous.

what is really hurting sony is their terrible PR.....they are just way too cocky.

Sony's rep had been falling and was already quite low, long before PS3 came out. They lost the portable audio market (HUGE loss, imo), their TV's (which were once known to be "the best") lost momentum - PlayStation 1 and 2 are arguably their greatest successes of the modern electronic age.

I totally agree. They always come off as being totally ignorant, and that makes them look bad. But, they're definitely not alone in this respect.. have you read Ballmer's recent remarks on the iPhone, for instance? I think it was on Engadget... totally laughable.

what's hurting sony is they had plenty of development time over the 360, yet they're starting out at or further behind where the 360 was a year ago.

but yea, their arrogant attitude isn't helping. like srika points out though, they are one in the same with microsoft in that aspect.

Price tag and the delay of release is what is hurting it. Even though it will probably affect some games/accessories a tinnnnny bit, I don't really mind, because I am happy with my PS3. Hopefully the PS4 will be a return to glory for Sony

Japanese retailers cut PS3 price

Tuesday 23-Jan-2007 10:29 AM

PS3 sales grind to halt - retailers slash price by 20 percent

Reports from Japan suggest that retailers have knocked the PS3 price down by as much as 20 percent in an attempt to drum up some business. A few good games would help, we reckon.

With demand for Wii at an all time high it must be hard for Sony to watch sales of PS3 almost dry up before their very eyes. It's also been reported that PS3 suffered its worst week of sales earlier this month in Japan as well. Things could be better.

But don't expect an official price cut from Sony any time soon. SCEA boss Jack Tretton has said that it would be hard to cut the price because the system is sooo expensive to make. Speaking to Game Informer, Tretton replied, "No... There's a heck of a lot more under the hood and it costs us more money to make it."

Sony's announcement of the UK launch seems to have been delayed a few days while the company irons out all the details.

Didn't they sell a hell of a lot more of them in Japan? And if that's the case couldn't it be as simple as the market already being saturated over there and hence the poor sales?
