The 2k7 AI is better and looks better (overuse of gloss effect), but it's still inferior to NBA 2k5 on the PS2.
Unless you are an addict for NBA games, I would hold off.

if ps3 - you got it for $660 on ebay, what makes you think you can sell it for any sort of profit

anyone else think resistance and motorstorm is teh shit? I was kinda disappointed with the gameplay of GT in HD... little too stif for my taste and same with the formula one
but anyway, how do you rip cd's to the hd on the ps3?

To rip CDs, press triangle, then select "import".
I have a few questions that may have been answered, but I didn't want to look through pages of posts...
1. Will the feedback steering wheel that was like $150 that one could buy for GT4 work on PS3?
2. I tried to get pictures and mp3's from a usb thumb drive into the ps3. It recognized the device, but not any of the files...
3. I was under the impression that it would upconvert old dvd's to 720p. Right now it is only playing them at 480p.
Thanks in advance

for #2 you have to put them into a specific folder in the thumb drive, for music put it into a folder named MUSIC for video put them into a folder named VIDEO, pictures probably PICTURE

well I finally played PS3 today. lol. I only played one game, the "best" one - Resistance. Damn. It was fun, but if I didn't know otherwise I would have thought it was a PS2 game. NOT good! We were playing in 3-player split-screen mode, mind you. But still.
I also finally played Gears of War. Incredible mood and feel. But we kinda got dizzy playing it. Did not get dizzy playing Resistance - I think its because the movement/cinematography was more realistic or just more in-your-face in Gears of War. If that makes any sense. Gears of War is the kind of game that makes you want to buy the console. Resistance, I think to myself, would I shell out $600 to play this game? Hell no.
we were playing on a (native) 1080p 46" LCD set with the best connections possible.

Resistance i thought was a great game... however, it was a bit dark - i always had to up the brightness on the telly in the chambers and such
but it sucks you cant play online with a friend signing on with the same ps3

and oh yeah if this is the "best" game for PS3... wow, that's sad. Also saw Full Auto, which seemed like a (confusing) new version of Twisted Metal. Graphics and environments looked sharp. Gameplay was average.

It's simply the BEST LOOKING 360 game. Some of the best physics too, perhaps. Very natural character movement.
Gameplay, however, is lacking. It's great fun, while it lasts. Problem is, for me, the game just has no staying power. I can't play it for days on end without getting bored.
It will be lauded as "Best Game", perhaps. But I don't think it deserves the title. Though it may be a contender, it's not 360's only knock out - especially so far as FPS's go - especially so far as sci-fi FPS's go (Lost Planet, Halo 3 soon, etc)

And yes, Halo 3 will probably be the "best" when it comes out, but I am just arguing what srika was saying. Saying that resistance being the best ps3 game is sad, is just not right. I think resistance is a lot better than GOW. The single player is more fun IMO, and a lot longer. The multiplayer is also definitely more fun. Not to mention the PS3 is a lot newer with less games vs. 360.
Ok - I am speaking purely from a graphical level, and also in terms of control and gameplay. The game doesn't look or play much different than Time Splitters 2 on PS2. Was that game fun? Yes. Is Resistance fun? Yes. But so is Tetris. The realism and feel of Gears of War was incredible - but we had more fun playing Resistance - this is true. And we noticed it immediately. But, my point is, we would have had just as much "fun" playing any of the various FPS's we like on PS2 or Xbox1.
I beat Resistance recently. It is a good launch game for the PS3 and a overall pretty decent FPS, but it is by no means the best FPS I have ever played. I much prefer the Halo and Half Life series.
Also, after playing Gears and RS:V, the run & gun gameplay is a bit stale and not very strategic. I prefer having a cover mechanism.
The graphics are lackluster - the framerate and draw distance is great, but it lacks that graphical "pop" (use of advanced shaders and HDR) that some 360 games like Gears have.
At the moment I am a bit disappointed with the PS3 as I already beat Resistance and there really aren't any other games outside of Motorstorm coming in March that I want to buy.
BTW, I've been seeing PS3's sitting available to buy in almost every store I visit - not a great sign for a system that just launched IMO. I ran into PS3's at Walmart, Target and FYE today.

It's funny that you see so much supply where you live. There are no PS3s to be found in the SF Bay Area (no where that I could find).
With the 360 readily available, I think most consumers will wait 6 more months until more "exclusive" titles come out. General consensus is that Metal Gear Solid, Gran Turismo and Lair are at the top of most peoples lists. But, those are still a ways away from release.
Overall, the PS3 launch was just like the 360 launch, which was just like the PS2 launch - a couple of good launch games, but not great. It will take a year for really good games to come out for the system.

I agree that the PS3 will definitely have some great games worth playing (which is why I got it myself), but at the moment there is a pretty big launch drought which is similar to what the 360 went through last year. Hopefully it improves soon.
I got a PS3 and 2 games for XMAS and am also a little dissapointed.
Granted I didnt really have to pay for any of this, so its not going back, but here are a few things I noticed or want added/fixed.
Resistance: Overall it seems like a pretty decent game, but I have no XB360 to compare it to Gears or any other good title. My biggest dissapointment here is not being able to play with a keyboard and mouse. I'm mainly a PC Gamer and played a ton of BF2 until recently and I find the lack of control while aiming with the PS3 controller is really pissing me off while playing. Situations that have taken me 3 tries on Resistance I'm sure I could have done with no problem had it beena PC Game.
NFS:Carbon - pretty decent graphics and gameplay. The AI revolving around the cops is a bit confusing. I find at 120mph they are passing me yet sometimes I lose them when I'm only doing 60. The Cut Scenes and story line are UBER GHEY if your old enough to drink. Overall, glad I grabbed this one for $40 on sale at Target and didnt pay full price.
Full Auto 2 - gameplay is decent, but lack of real cars makes it less interesting and trying to race while doing 2 or 3 other things at the same time can be a real pain in the ass. The graphics look really good though.
Hardware:
One thing I was pleasantly surprised to find out is the "AV Multi Out" is the same connector as the PS2. So since I have an older HDTV with no HDMI, I was able to yoink the Component Video cables off my PS2, hook em to the PS3 and was up and running at 1080i in a matter of minutes.
However this is counteracted by the fact that Sony chose not to include a $5 IR Port. For those people who bought this as a BluRay player first and a Game Console second, this is totally unacceptable. I have heard that Sony will be releasing, or has already released a Bluetooth DVD Remote, but who wants another freaking remote they have to keep handy. I didnt pay $200 for a Harmony 880 just to have to buya remote for the PS3 too. I am really hoping they either put out a USB Based IR Port, or just include drivers for some of the existing USB to IR devices that already exist for the PC Market.
The Controllers are pretty much no different than the PS2 ones except wireless. This is obviously good and bad for various reasons. I did find the Battery life of a fully charged controller is pretty decent. I also like the fact they (for once in Sony's history) went with a standard cable, the USB to miniUSB for the charging and pairing. I found I was able to charge my second controller using my Digital Camera's cable and was also able to steal the PS3 cable to use to update my Harmony when I couldnt find the one I usually use.
Blu-Ray
My wife also got me a copy of Fifth Element on BD sicne its my fav movie. However I was really dissapointed in the quality of the transfer. It looks like they stuck the master reels on the shelf all this time and they either degraded or someone jacked them up while re-transferring. I watched the same scene on the BD version as well as the SuperBit DVD version I have and the BD version had tons of pops and crackles like I was in a movie theatre watching a reel they had played a couple hundred times already.
I'm really hoping that this was just a problem on the specific title I saw and that newer titles filmed all digitally or mastered for BD will be better.
I havent downloaded the GT4 HD demo yet, but probably will tonight or later this week. I did pull down the Lemmings and Sudoku demo as they were smaller and downloaded pretty quick. I like the concept of downloading stuff from teh interweb straight to the PS3. Damn thing really is just a computer in a closed environment. I would like to see USB Mouse and Keyboard support added not only for the browser, but also for some games. If I could connect a BT Mouse and Keyboard to my PS3 and then play Resistance with the good old WASD + MouseLook I think I would be much happier with it.

hold up dude! I wanna inject a ray of light into this otherwise rapidly downwardly-spiralling thread with a quote from 1UP regarding GT:HD...

Like has been said, these are the first games. They will improve. Just not right now. Now, knowing what I know about you here - if you give your PS3 back, I am quite sure you will buy another one in the future.

And even if you're not a simulation racer Gran Tursimo HD merits downloading for the visuals alone. There's still somewhat of a disconcerting disconnect between the foreground and the background that makes it feel like the distant scenery is painted on the inside of a globe, but the detail up close, and in particular on the car models, is amazing. The way the light plays across them, and picks up the colors in the paint, comes as close to photorealism as any game yet.

Can you explain to me exactly why someone wouldnt want to wait?
Only advantage is you get to use it now with a few mediocre games, watching a few BD movies here and there (unless your dead set on waiting till that format war ends), and ultimately waiting for a few "Killer" titles to be released down the road anyway.
Personally, if it wasnt given to me as a gift, I wouldnt have bought one until closer to next year's holiday season so I could pick and choose from probably 100 games, including GTA IV, rather than the 20-25 games that are out right now (approx 10 of which are sports titles).
For the money, if you dont already have one, I would say pickup a 360 20GB with Gears and a few other good titles along with the HD-DVD backpack drive. Your gonna spend about the same for the Console + HD-DVD, but the games will be better (more mature to say the least) and you still get High Def movies. Then you can pickup a PS3 at the end of 2007, hopefully for a little cheaper than they are going for now.
