Sony: PS3 News and Discussion Thread
seriously, what games came/are coming out from christmas till march 5th,
lemme list them:
Gran Turismo HD Concept, Dec 24, 2006 (although i would hardly call this a game)
GripShift Jan 4, 2007 (downloadable game thru psn)
Sonic the Hedgehog Jan 30, 2007
College Hoops 2K7 Feb 12, 2007
Virtua Fighter 5 Feb 20, 2007
F1 Feb 27, 2007
and the last game that came out before then was
Blazing Angels: Squadrons of WWII on Dec 12, 2006
Fight Night round 3 was on Dec 5th
so that'd be almost 3 months before any decent/good games come out for PS3
in march ps3 gets
mlb 2k7
nba street
f.e.a.r.
splinter cell
rainbow 6 vegas
virtua tennis 3
this is exactly why i dont care that my friend still has my PS3, all i got for it is resistance... and nothing else interests me, maybe fight night but thats it

Install a bigger HD in your PS3
Posted Jan 23rd 2007 11:55AM by Kyle Orland
Sixty gigabytes not enough for you to store all your pictures and movies on your PS3? Sure, you could use a USB hard drive to expand the space, but that's much too easy. For those masochists that just need to have that extra storage inside the system casing, there's now a MySpace page with detailed advice on how to install any 3.5" drive in your system.
For those of you who just need to have every USB device you own hooked up to the PS3 at the same time, the site also has video instructions for installing a USB hub to expand the four ports included with the system. Personally, we're too busy playing Resistance: Fall of Man to take the time to do any of this stuff, but for the hardware fetishists out there, go nuts.

IMO, Sony really dropped the ball with God of War II. That game should be on PS3, not PS2! The first one had a HUGE following (it's a best seller!) and would be a great game to build buzz around the PS3. Instead, consumers are still stuck with crappy games until FF or GT come out.

GoW III will be a great game visually, given how awesome I and II (dev shots) look on the PS2 right now.
It's about time!

I just saw this and think it's the right step forward.
Now, the developers will each have to release a patch for the game to suppor the "new" resolutions. Whether they do that, is still up to speculation.

Yes, the prices are going up in Canada, but the reason is due to the weakened Canadian dollar. Whether this is the true reason for the price hike is up for debate.

Much like the PS2 and the Xbox 360 when they first came out, the cost to produce is very high. Not until they streamline their supply chain and production line, will you see a major price drop.
I hear that the 360 is actually turning a profit now, so that should give you an indication on when the PS3 should be cheaper to make. Whether that results in a price drop?

Soopa, any thoughts?

But, for sure, this is probably the first time I'm actually making use of my TV's higher end abilities since I don't have high-def cable (or cable even)...

Does your TV have a built in Tuner? If it does, all you need is an antenna.

Put this way: playing with robots > watching TV.

as long as you own an HD tuner or have a TV that has one built in, all you need to do is plugin the antenna to the tuner and you can have HD for free (minus the cost of buying an HD tuner if you don't have one) and you don't have to pay cable then.
we have dish network at our house. But I also hooked up an antenna to that box and it now plays the HD channels off the air in addition to the channels it's programmed to show through cable. But the off-air channels are free.

No, my DLP does not have an HD-tuner. I'll hafta buy one...how much would it set me back by...? And you're kinda referring to the free-to-air stuff off of Pansat receivers, correct?

(i thought you don't have to have cable to pull HD signals off the air) you can buy an HD tuner box just to simply pull HD signals off the air correct?

basically if you get an HD Tuner, you hook up an antenna to it, and it will pull HD signals that are broadcast locally and your tuner box will decode it for ya.
some of the boxes can be expensive. i believe you can buy stand alone HD tuners (ones that don't work with cable companies) someone correct me if I'm wrong though.
this should give you an idea of what is out there:

Take full advantage of your HDTV's stunning display with DIRECTV's H20 receiver. It pulls in vivid, detailed DIRECTV high-definition programming — including sports, special-event broadcasts, HD-only channels, and more. You can also hook up an HD-compatible antenna to tune in free, local over-the-air digital channels, including high-definition broadcasts.

You still need a good antenna and mount it on your roof. Indoor antennas work, but aren't very powerful and receptive. I've got a Terk indoor HD antenna and it does work, but it has a lot of interferance. I could be walking buy it and we'll lose HD signal!
There are websites out there that also list what channels broadcast in HD so you can type in the HD channel number or the box should have an auto-find feature were it just scans the incoming signals and pulls the channels it is recieivng a good signal from. that's what our dish box did for us.

you don't need to subscribe to a cable service to pull free over the air HD signals.
my in-laws have cable, BUT their HD antenna signal goes directly into their TV's HD tuner box and NOT into their Dish cable box and they are getting HD signals free of charge.
the purpose of the HD box is to decode the HD signal and pipe it into your TV. some of the boxes are meant for cable subscribers. others can be used for either cable subscribers, over the air HD, or both, like the directTV box.
so basically I could buy that directtv box I showed you and use it only to catch the over the air HD signals and not have directv service. There is no subscription needed for these over the air HD signals.
it's all about getting an HD tuner.
As for canada, guess srika was right, you can't get HDTV.
