so i had to return and rebuy the item. BUT! i didnt have to to bring the PS3 back to the store, all the info they needed was on the receipt, the serial and upc. so they just returned it and then i repurchased it with the 2 year plan.

graphically, its nice, but i have a crummy tv so i cant tell any difference between the ps3 and xbox 360
the XMB or whatever, yea its exactly like the PSP. The playstation network, its free. but when downloading content thru the store, it's not like the 360 where it downloads in the background, you have to wait for it to finish. And the way the menu system works for the store is like you're browsing a webpage, at certain times when was trying to click on something it would just center the cursor on the button i was trying to click instead of going to the next page.
bluray, quality does look slightly better, but i need to buy well probably rent the DVD of taladega nights to compare. since i dont have an HDTV i cant give a good review on it. plus when playing on a SDTV the blackbars are huge.
multiplayer, its simple just goto the multiplayer setting int hte game and search for games. it was pretty quick to find a game and just hopped in, i was thinking it would lag or something in a 35/40 player game but no i didnt have any lag or anything and this is with wireless.
the controller, yea its noticably lighter than the dualshock 2, and the R2 L2 triggers they kinda throw me off because im so used to the ds2. charging is simple just plug in the usb cord and it'll charge, when going wireless i didnt notice any lag like you get with wireless mice on computers with fps. ohh and the motion sensing thing, only thing ive noticed in resistance is when some dude grabs onto you, you shake your controller to try and get the guy off of you. but i saw ridgeracer at bestbuy and you can use teh controller like a steering wheel to steer. ohh and at least with resistance, you can disable the tilt controls via the menu. and the ps button its like the xbox 360, you press and hold it for a few seconds and a menu pops up asking to quit game and a few other options and to shutdown the system or controller.
backwards compatibilty, i only tried FFVII for ps1 and it worked nice, just didnt get very far cause i dont have save games. ooh and for memory card issues the ps3 emulates a virtual memory card slot and you just make a virtual ps1 or ps2 memory card and can adjust which slot it is in. the other game i tried was GT4 i didnt notice any problems with the menu system, but i hear you have to leave it idle. anyways game play its exactly the same, just feels odd to not have the rumbling when driving on dirt or the rumble strips. one thing i noticed when playing a ps2 game was that the system took ages to go from the ps3 xmb to that initial playstation 2 logo that appears when you boot up on a ps2 and i had to reconnect the controller. ohh and im not sure about other ps2 games but with GT4 the jaggies were waaaaay more noticeable, it looked pretty bad. so i think im gonna keep my ps2 hooked up to play ps2 games.
i havent yet tried to see if i could play music while playing games yet cause my hard drive is empty. and videos either because i dont have anything on the HD.
ohh and the eject and power button, its touch sensitive, so you just place your finger on it with little to no pressure needed.
interms of heating issues, i didnt notice the system getting hot but by the vents it is spewing out hot air, and sound wise from the system ill have to get back to you on that because my roommates 360 was left turned on and that fan probably drowned out any noise the ps3 made.
thats about all i can think for now, any questions just ask and ill try to answer

i think i'm going to do the same as you. i like gears of war and i'm thinking of going to get an 360 now and wait until march or so and then grab a PS3. i'm a playstation diehard but i have the money right now and the 360 looks like a nice platform. but i love playstation so when i get it and games come out for both platforms i'm deff getting the PS3 ones. i kind of only want 360 for gears of war. forza, tom clancy maybe, and halo 2.

i dunno if that helps
and for the remote losing connection, hasnt happened when i was playing any games, only occured when starting to play a ps2 game
ohh yea so i loaded up some music and videos, the videos play fine and at full screen but they are kinda blurry that could be because im playing music videos at 320x240 resolution thou, but when i play mpeg 2 files at 480x480 resolution it looks much better.
and for the music i dont think you can play it while gaming, i think only when using the player in the xmb

I hope they will add more formats in the upcoming firmware updates...
My friend's brother was one of the lunatics who camped outside Best Buy to pick up one of the PS3's last week. He already has a PS1, PS2, and a PSP so he was eagerly waiting for the PS3 to come out. After playing with it all weekend long, he was so not impressed by it that he sold it in the Best Buy parking lot for $1200, walked into the store and bought a 360 with a ton of games. LOL!
Gears of War is a very pretty looking game.
