Sony: PS3 News and Discussion Thread
i hope all of them get pneumonia and die in hell all those crazy bastards that have time to wait for a game console! lol jk...
but i had no idea there are that many people out there with no jobs and nothing better to do than to wait in a line for days. Its nice to see the youth dedicated to something though.

Wow. I'm really surprised...this was not the case for the 360. So, either we have some mega diehards for Sony or this is really going to sell well overall? This is nuts.
Future Shop has 10 PS3s for each store, and Best Buy has 8.
Most of the guys out there are going to go home empty handed.
And I also heard bestbuy.ca has 80 PS3s in stock for online purchases only. 10 per hour for the whole country. Good luck boys.

Want a PlayStation 3 on Friday? Don't camp out at the usual places.
I'll post my Transformers DVD review tomorrow night. It's almost done, it just needs some fine-tuning.
In the meantime...
As you already know, the PlayStation 3 comes out here in the United States on Friday[EDIT:Whoops, I originally wrote down Thursday as the date, thinking the 17th was on a Thursday, it's Friday...My bad] morning. Most everyone who wants a PlayStation 3 will probably camp out at the usual places like Best-Buy, Target, and Wal-Mart. What many people don't know is that there are many other stores that will be carrying the PlayStation 3 on launch day as well.
For example, hundreds of people will be camping out hoping to grab the 15 or so systems that will be available at Best Buy, Target, or Wal-Mart. But instead of camping out at the usual places, try going to places that you may not think about when it comes to video game hardware. For example; tomorrow, go to places like Sears, Sam's Club, Costco, or even CompUsa, and ask if they will be selling the PS3 on Friday morning. If so, how many systems will they have available.
Every time there's a console launch, there are disappointed gamers who drive away from the Best Buy parking lot, angry that they didn't get their new system. While at the same time, there is a small group of people waiting at a Sears in a rural part of the country, waiting to walk out with a system.
Bottom line
Instead of camping out at the usual suspects, like....
Best-Buy
Circuit-City
Wal-Mart
Target
Try camping out at these places instead....
Sears
Sam's Club
Costco
Meijer
CompUsa
Shop-Ko
Or any other no-name small time retailer.

I think I will wait until the summer time to buy a PS3, or maybe next holiday season. I still have many games to finish on my PS2 and Gamecube, so I am in no rush.
Now, an HDTV on Black Friday, that's another story

Here are the PS3 launch title scores from 1up as an example. Other than Resistance, the rest of the launch lineup is garbage.

Describing the PS3 as an "engineering masterpiece," iSuppli estimates that the more expensive $599 console costs $840.35 to build, leaving Sony with a $241.35 loss on each console. The picture is worse for the cheaper, $499 version. Sony takes a hit of $306.85 per $499 console sold, due primarily to the lack of any substantial savings from the hardware differences between the two versions of the PS3. For instance, the 40GB difference in hard drive space between the two versions of the PS3 only saves Sony $11 and omitting 802.11b/g on the cheaper console only saves Sony an additional $15.50.
iSuppli's teardown report shows three big cost centers for the PS3. Topping the list is the Reality Synthesizer from NVIDIA, which handles the PS3's graphics. According to iSuppli, Sony's cost for that chip is $129. Sony's decision to outfit the PS3 with Blu-ray costs $125 per unit, while the Cell CPU from IBM runs $89. Miscellaneous other components and manufacturing costs add another $148 to the total; the rest of the costs are broken out in the chart below.
---
It's a gloomy picture, but there is light at the end of the tunnel. When iSuppli tore down an Xbox 360 around this time last year, the firm estimated that Microsoft was losing $126 on each 360 sold. Microsoft is whistling a much happier tune now. Revised component costs for the Xbox 360 indicate that costs have dropped to the point where each $399 Xbox 360 sold costs $323.30 to make—leaving Microsoft $75.70 in the black on each system, before marketing and other costs are figured into the equation.
The two biggest points of contrast between the PS3 and Xbox 360 in terms of component costs are what iSuppli calls the "motherboard"—CPU, GPU, memory, controllers, etc.—and the optical drive. The PS3's "motherboard" costs $500 for Sony, while the Xbox 360 motherboard is only $200—down from a $370 figure at launch. The Xbox 360's vanilla DVD optical drive is only $19.45, over $100 cheaper than the Blu-ray's price tag.

people are purposely hijacking the auctions and balooning the prices so that PS3 sellers can't make a buck off of it. see my post above this one about it.

YYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSs, Once again, i strolled into my sister in-law's Toys R Us and walked out with 2 consoles on launch day, hours after they have been sold out. I got one for me and one for my brother. I am trying to see if i can hook a forum member up that already asked me also. She told me to wait and see what the other manager does when she comes in later. I havent opened it yet. I dont even know why i got it as there isnt anything that makes me want it. But i got it and am happy.

Costco.com is apparently sold out, at least on their homepage it says so, and it's not even 8am.
