^ Which is why historically there has been no Lexus, Acura, Infiniti, etc. over there.... b/c those are seen as American labels. So they keep the cars as Toyota, Honda, or Nissan...

You might as well go to class, because unless you are camping out a night or two before, you arent getting a PS3 on launch

By then the hype will have died down and production will have caught up.

So after Christmas there will be some available, but they still won't be easy to come by.
that's exactly what I was saying.

If your American buy an American product like 360. JK. Anyways where is PS3 manufactured? Japan or China?

I just heard on the news that the PS3 is having problems being backwards compatible with 200 or more PS2 and PS1 games.

^ Yeah, this is nothing new with the consoles. 360 and PS2 had the same issues when they were launched.

Lucky for me I never use the new systems to play the old games, so it doesn't matter to me one bit

Was just at Best Buy... already a ton of people camping out.

I played the demo system, it froze up before I could even figure out what game I was playing.

Nice.

And there are people camping out now? Damn, that's nuts... still 3 days to launch.

It looks like the launch number may be even lower than I listed earlier. It looks like it might only be 150,000 - 200,000 for launch.

If this is true, I wouldn't even bother trying to get one at launch as they are going to be impossible to find:

"We expect Sony to deliver 150-200k units to stores in the United States for the launch; consumers without pre-orders may find it difficult to locate an available system. We estimate sales of approximately 750k PS3s domestically by year-end. We expect a more robust launch from Nintendo, with at least 1.2 million units sold in the U.S. and up to four million units shipped worldwide by year-end."

I told you all so.... .

for sony's sake hopefully that freeze up of the system when soopa played it was a VERY isolated incident, otherwise they are totally screwed if they can only launch with 230k-280k units.

as for backwards compatibility issues, fortunately the Wii wont' have ANY problems playing any gamecube gavmes as the gpu and cpu are basically the same architecture with higher clock speeds and other upgrades.

Back in May, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe CEO David Reeves said that, "the first five million are going to buy it [the PlayStation 3], whatever it is, even it didn't have games." You know what? He was probably right.

Famitsu has revealed that the less than one game per console was sold at the Japanese launch of the PS3. Although the numbers are out of whack because of the large number of consoles bought simply to sell for profit, it still goes some way to back up Reeves' claims.

As reported yesterday, a total of 88,400 PS3 consoles were sold, 54,600 of the 60GB version and 33,800 of the cheaper 20GB model. On the software front, Ridge Racer 7 managed 30,300 units, Mobile Suit Gundam: Crossfire sold 30,000, and Resistance: Fall of Man came in third with 20,889.

Ecost has a bundle on their website. No guarantee that you will receive one by Christmas but worth a shot if you are looking for one. You can cancel your order if you don't receive one by your time expectations.

They are apparantly freezing up everywhere......word is that the problem is with the kiosk design. It doesn't allow enough ventilation, so the systems have been overheating. Apparantly, Sony is sending out techs to fix or replace the kiosks to stop the issue.

Whether that's BS or not, you got me.

well, at least none of the units that engadget, joystiq, ign, cnet, or any of the other games journalists received ahead of time were overheating. so that's a good sign

so what's the deal about selling these on eBay? apparently you must have a certain amount of feedback, have a copy of the original receipt, paypal only, no buy it now, etc...

I'm not an ebayer, so what would be the best way to sell one of these things? (if I happened to stumble into one. a BIG "if" obviously)

craigslist?

hang around the parking lot of Best Buy on launch day an sell it cash to the best offer?

I just called my Best Buy and Target and BB said tomorrow at 8 they would be selling them then I called Target and they said Friday they would be selling them. I know the release date is on Friday, so I'm thinking the girl at BB is wrong. I'm gonna try to get one from Target on Friday.

Anyone think it is worth waiting in line to Ebay it? I made some money off the 360, but I know the 360 had a bad shortage.

Good luck....I'm sure you are not the only who thought of going to the "small town" Walmart...because no one would be there.
There is going to be a line.
