actually... no blocks so far. then again... ive watched all decent quality vids of djs, cars, etc. as long as its not a cell phone upload, the quality has been great.

if ANYTHING... the brightness may need a tad adj. lower... but looks great, sounds pretty good.

Do you mean the 45nm chips that everyone's creaming on? I have a 40GB that has the 65nm chip and it is super quiet. The 80GB with Metal Gear are the 90nm chips and are said to be really loud. The consensus is equating the chips to temperature. They say the 80GB is more apparent to failure versus the 40GB because of the chip. Supposedly the 45nm chip will allow Sony to drop the price but I don't see that happening for a while.

 

This explains why I could not sign in yesterday.

I have an original batch 20Gb (which I almost immediately upgraded to 250Gb), and it is super quiet too.

 

i have the one of the first 60gb ps3s, and its pretty quiet, but lately the fan has been running a little louder than normal but still pretty damn quiet

I just bought a ps3 and have 2.4 (works fine) but I cant play music while playing certain games like COD4....wtf?

 

The program for music has to be patched into each game. It won't work on just any random PS3 game you pop in. There was a list somewhere but I don't know where and I can't access the PS site from work.

Yep, it has had that functionality for a long time (you can play off of your ipod)

None the less, I couldn't be happier with my purchase. I had the wii since thanksgiving 06 and I sold it with 5 games for $275, picked up the ps3 with 4 games for $400, so I am really happy about the way it held value. The wii was the last nintendo product I will ever buy, the only redeeming value was smash brothers brawl and since I am out of a dorm environment it doesn't make sense to have it especially since online play is so unusable. The controller for the wii is really poorly done, I played any game I could with the classic controller and Nintendo discontinued the wavebirds so there are essentially no good wireless controllers.

 

2.41 is out. finally.

I'm up to 2.30 and my 40GB is mouse quiet.

 

You're not able to log onto the Playstation Network unless you have the latest version of the system software.

Mine seems to run and be at the same fan volume.

My fans are loud, but that's because my room is always hot as hell, especially in this weather (freakin 102 degrees in Dublin!)

My fans are loud but that's because it's in the hottest room in the house. Back during winter when it was the coldest room in the house, you could barely hear it running.

 

I tried updating to 2.41 and it kept crashing

2.4 was out for about 4-5 hours... they then took it out.

i wasnt able to dl it @ 4pm that day. i was stuck with 2.3 until today. thats what i was looking for
