Where is the cheapest place I can get a wireless antenna for the Xbox 360? I don't want to pay 99.99 for it.

Try playing around with it a bit.
My 360 was "RRoDing" when I first pulled it out of the box, but it just turned out
my power connector was loose. Also I've heard that going through a surge protector can cause it.

The 3 rings just means 'generic error', it doesn't necessarily mean a dead MB.

Good luck.

Oh, I have my xbox 360 horizontal - and I'm actually using it as an LCD stand. ha ha.

Thanks, but I went through all the cycles. HD and Power Supply were connected (Green light was on when 3 rings occurred). Plus, my DVD drive would make nutty noises when spinning down and I had random lock ups.

It was just a matter of time I suppose.

GF got me the 360 pro bundle from costco (I wanted that lifetime warranty in case it takes a shit on me) for $400 that came with marvel, forza2, an extra controller and the play and charge pack

I then got the MS wireless wheel with PGR3 for $80 used and then just picked up rockband this weekend for $130 Going to go to sears after work today to price match 110% COD4's $40 sale at Circuit City

SO many games to play

Xbox Ultimate???

http://stuff.tv/News/BIG-IN-2008-Xbox-Ultimate/

We’ve already had the Xbox 360 Premium and Elite. Both are, of course, fine gaming machines with the best games catalogue in the next-gen field. But come autumn 2008, we predict both will be rendered obsolete by a new model. We'll call it the Xbox Ultimate.

If our guesstimate is correct, this PS3-mauler will benefit from all manner of killer features, including 1080p HDMI output, built-in Wi-Fi, hi-def audio output, cooler 65nm hardware architecture and a near-silent fan.

Once the Xbox IPTV service is in full swing, we're hoping you'll be able to record TV shows to its beefier 320GB hard disk and watch live TV shows via your broadband provider.

But the piece de resistance? Well, fingers-crossed for a built-in HD DVD drive. Let Round 12 with the PS3 commence...

If anything, the next iteration will have a built in HD-DVD drive and the new architecture. Not sure about the built in Wi-Fi since I know many folks who bought the add on antenna.

Cool Microsoft hooks up Xbox Live subs with free Arcade title

http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/04/m...-arcade-title/

Looks like Microsoft is going to do the right thing: as anticipated, Xbox Live General Manager Marc Whitten states in a letter to customers that, as recompense for nearly two weeks of outages, the group is offering up a full, free Xbox Live Arcade title free of charge. Sounds like it won't be until the next couple of weeks before the offer is active, but it will indeed apply to "all" Xbox Live members, and assuming it's for games worth more than 200 Microsoft points, it will be net positive for Gold users who lost about $1.64 worth of Live service over the last twelve days. Well done Microsoft, we think most will consider the stinging pain eased. Memo posted after the break.
Eh, better than nothing.

They need to fix Xbox Live, this is getting ridiculous:

The boy wanted his father to look at his Xbox 360 video game system.

The father didn't want to. An argument ensued.

The boy handed his father a rifle. Shoot me, he said.

So the father did.

State police at Fern Ridge say that scenario played out Friday night between 60-year-old James Stanley Niedosik and his 17-year-old son.

The boy ended up in Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest with a .22-caliber bullet lodged in his skull behind his ear. Niedosik ended up in Monroe County Prison on $250,000 bail, charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, reckless endangerment and endangering the welfare of a child.

A woman identifying herself as Jeanie Niedosik, James' ex-wife and the boy's mother, answered the phone at the Jackson Township residence this evening.

"One's in jail, one's in the hospital," she said. "I won't know exactly what happened until I talk to [my son]. He's incoherent yet; they have him heavily sedated."

that a sad story, but wouldn't a 17 year old kid know more about fixing the problem than a 60 year old man? What was he expecting his dad to do?

My NHL 08 recently became unreadable by my 360, upon checking out the disc it had numerous circular scratches...caused by the 360. My xbox as well as many other people's is scratching games. My friend had the same thing happen to him and they gave him a new xbox, all he had to pay for was the shipping (20). Anybody else have this problem as it seems to be a common occurrence.

Here is the lawsuit http://www.joystiq.com/photos/micros...awsuit/305353/

I'll have to call them tomorrow

My xbox hasn't scratch really any discs but does do the unreadable thing. I just had to like punch my xbox around the disc drive and it works now.

Angry Rumor: Anoymous Microsoft source reveals truth about the Red Ring of Death

http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/19/ru...he-red-ring-o/

Obviously, it's just a rumor right now. But, if this is true then it pretty much validates what every one of us was thinking about the reasons for the lack luster quality of the 360.

Let me get one thing set straight - which position is better for preventing scratches - horizontal (laying flat), or vertical (standing on end)? I've always read that horizontal is better, yet I've seen 3 other people with 360s standing on end, and when I asked why, they said it was to prevent scratches.

It was partially negligence on my little brother's part but my 360 fubared a Rock Band disc. He had the guitar strap over his shoulder and he was walking away to get food when it yanked the 360 and scratched up the disc.

And another thing, knock on wood, my 360 is just fine and I think it was built in 2005. Should I worry? It has frozen on me few enough times to count on both my hands. I think it got the RRoD after I put in a cheap ass Nyko Intercooler, but aside from that its been fine... I always think don't fix it if it ain't broke, but I don't want it to bite me in the ass later.

You do have a sarcastic point, but the hardware failure rate of the 360 is much, much larger than the PS3, or the Wii, and having that many issues with that many consoles is not acceptable. To be frank, I have experienced issues with my 360 and zero with my PS3, PS2, Dreamcast, Gamecube, Xbox and SNES, so I am coming from a slightly cynical angle.

I do understand that with all mass manufacturing processes, there are going to be units with issues, but considering that console manufacturing is a high sunk cost, high demand item, QC should be first and foremost and should not be sacrificed. MS should have held the 360 to the same high standards as the original Xbox and not cave into competition pressure.

To me, MS was not confident in their product to go head-to-head with PS3 on launch, so they rushed things out to get a generation ahead on their games. It is a business strategy to beat the competitor to market, but it should not come at the cost of sub-standard quality.

I have owned two 360s, never had a problems with either.

In fact the only time I got a RRD was because had a power outage in the middle of a game, i turned it off and back on and it was fine.

Same with my ipod, that became internet mass hysteria. I never had issue, in fact I still own a first gen with good bat life.

Yeah, it electronics, yeah they fail, maybe the xbox is failing more then other units, but I dont think its on this grandious scale that the internet has made it out to be.

True, but in comparison to other system failure rates it's very high. I am glad that MS extended their warranty period to address this, but systems should not be failing like this so far into it's lifecycle.

I know in the future I will be buying every electronic on my AMEX with automatic warranty extension.

So I was on the phone for over 2 hours today...nothing got accomplished.

I know for a fact that a friend called having the same problem and ended up paying 25 dollars (75% off) the fixing price for the drive. I had the supervisor on the phone and all he said to me after I gave him every possible reason as to why its MS's fault, 50 dollars is the best I can do.

How is it possible that one person can get it for 25 and another for 50; When we shouldn't have to pay in the first place seeing as it is caused by a faulty drive.

I'll try and call back tomorrow and see if I have any luck. Any suggestions?

My eldest's 360 started acting up today -- checkerboard pattern and an occasional "green screen". I'm sure the RROD is right around the corner. Called MS tonight and they want me to locate and try another AV cable before sending the unit in since it's not displaying any real error codes yet (have had it for 9 months so it's still under the regular warranty period). Guess I'll borrow one tomorrow just to be sure and then call them back. Sigh...just when I was really starting to get into COD4....

I don't want to take over this thread with my posts but...

Weirdest thing just happened...if you read my previous two posts I had called in today regarding scratched discs and denied getting 50% off the repair.

I was just about to play a game half an hour ago and upon turning it on...the three red lights came on, turned it off checked all the cables and on again...still the same thing. I couldn't believe it, I was soo happy.

Then called xbox tell them my problem and the lady goes, well here on the record I see that you denied 50 percent off repair today, how come blah blah. And I was like I know this sounds really weird but it really just did happen. So I should be getting a new xbox soon. What luck eh?

I've only gotten the RRD once, and thats when it fell out of the car onto the parking lot. It was in a carrying case/bag but it was a hard fall. I just restarted it and it's worked fine since (over a year)

You will likely get your old one back, and if you are like me you will have to send it back for a RROD again in a few months. Some people do get refrubs sent to them, but most don't.

Sony is in talks with console rival Microsoft about offering a Blu-ray drive for the Xbox 360, according to a senior executive.

The Japanese electronics maker has until now touted Blu-ray as an advantage its PlayStation 3 holds over Microsoft’s console. Microsoft has backed Toshiba’s HD-DVD format and offered an HD-DVD drive that can be plugged into the 360.

But after Sony’s victory last month in the high-definition DVD format war, Stan Glasgow, Sony Electronics US president, said the two sides were now talking about Microsoft adopting Blu-ray.

A Blu-ray drive in a 360 would make Microsoft more competitive with the PS3, but it would also mean extra revenues for Sony’s electronics division. It would also add further cost to the 360, meaning a premium edition of the console could be necessary.

A Blu-ray drive could be incorporated in its top-of-the-range Elite Xbox, or Microsoft could again offer a drive as a plug-in peripheral.

Microsoft said to be ditching 20GB Xbox 360 for 60GB model

We'd already heard about a possible price cut to the Xbox 360, but it looks like that might not be all that Microsoft has in store, as TrustedReviews is now reporting that the 20GB hard drive in the standard Xbox 360 model is about to get the boot in favor of a more spacious 60GB one. That word apparently comes from a "rock solid source," who says that Microsoft wants to get it out the door by the end of its financial year, which comes at the end of June. TrustedReviews also goes into a bit of speculation, saying that Microsoft is "toying with the idea of introducing a new 360 SKU," and that a model with a built-in Blu-ray drive would seem to be "the most logical conclusion," although they say an external drive "makes sense too." While that possibility obviously remains up in the air, TrustedReviews is about as confident as can be with the 60GB Xbox 360 news, saying that you can take it to the bank.

I plan on keeping my 360 and PS3 for as long as possible. Hopefully, they will both roll as long as the PS2

Microsoft's been working on a Wiimote-esque controller due to come out late this year—development started on it all the way back in Summer '07—but the whole process has been "a colossal clusterfuck." Here's what MTV news knows courtesy of their exclusive source, who sketched out what it looks like above.

The 360 Wiimote shaped very much like the Nintendo Wii's Wiimote and has a speaker, microphone, four LED lights, A/B/X/Y face buttons, an analog stick and an underside trigger. The Wiimote, on the other hand, doesn't have a Microphone and has a D-pad instead of an analog stick. It's being worked on by Rare, who are trying to come up with a "unified interface and look for the controller." The current problem Microsoft's having is between marketers and designers. The former wants it just about exactly like the Wiimote so they can match them on spec sheets and lure game developers into porting over Wii games onto the 360. The designers want it to be even more feature-rich than just the Wii, and describe it as Halo, Gears and Forza "in waggle form."
