So, I've been using the instant play netlfix feature a lot more. The picture quality aint bad..and on some mvoies and tv shows its actually streaming HD. Looks like I'm watching HD on cable.

Thats pretty damn good imo.

Do the speakers you're goin to use have the optical connection or are you going to be using a connection?

I had a similar setup before I used the Xbox or PS3 on my TV. I used to have the console connected to a HD monitor via HDMI and then audio speaker out to my computer speakers. Not quite the same but, I guess it would work for you.

PS3/Xbox connected to HD monitor via HDMI. From the monitor, I had the speaker out line to the computer speakers.

yes, but they won't give you any more value than as if they were used copies... so what ever the going rate is for used copies, that's what they'll give you even if they are unwrapped.

The gf and I traded in all our old console gaming stuff (old Xbox, PS2, plus games) and bought an Xbox 360! I've probably used it a whole 45 minutes since we bought it (been really busy), but so far I like it.

I'm waiting for an HDMI cable to come in the mail from Amazon so I can check out it's DVD upconverting feature. Hope it's decent!

I've heard of HD-DVD add on selling for like $25. You can get the Planet Earth HD-DVD for $10 now.

I can't get the 360 to play my AVI videos? Apparently there was a update via Live on the Fall of 07 that allowed for AVI's but it still won't recognize the files?

The files play fine on the PC. The 360 plays MPEG 4 video files just fine as well.

Anyone have any experience with video formats supported or played by the 360?

Or do I have to convert everything to wmv?

I play AVI's all the time -- but they are encoded in Xvid (a GPL version of DivX) using autogk.

I'm more or less a newbie when it comes to this stuff.

So how can I get my current collection of avi's to that or a proper codec?

I had a collection of MPEG4 video files, used Movie Maker to publish them all to a single DV-AVI file and the thing still won't play? Does that make sense? I'm using MicroSoft movie maker to create file that won't play in a MicroSoft Extender?

What should I be using to make the movie? I have Nero 7 as well.

AVIs can be one of many codecs -- AVI is really just a spec for a container file, and many different kinds of streams can be embedded.

I think Microsoft is more worried about you being able to pay them to stream movies to your Xbox than about you being able to use their other products to make your own movies to watch on your Xbox for free.

The only conversions I've done are ripping DVDs to AVIs using autogk -- gives me a format I can watch at home over my network and on the road from a flash drive. Sorry I can't be of more help with your specific application.

I like you better when you're cracking jokes.

Thanks for your insight.

When publishing Movie Maker has a specific option for the Xbox 360 in 720P so I'm in the process of creating that movie. I don't see why that wouldn't work but you never know.

My Xbox 360 Elite has been randomly locking up (not the RROD) after installing NXE. What do I do? Could be during a movie or a game, not necessary the same game or movie either.
