I tried to post a new thread bout it, but AZ has been having server issues and I wasn't able to post the thread earlier today.
and I just bought an elite a few months ago.
Oh well, the lower price is only going to make it harder to get.

I've heard of the so called "Platinum edition" and did some quick
searches but couldn't find some detailed info.
The elite is the top of the line. Before I boguht the elite, is when I first heard of the platinum edition, and the listings I went through on eBay, pegged the platinum edition to be similar to the premium/pro bundle.
Care to shed some light on the platinum edition is300???

are you serious about the rumble? I can care less about the extra 20GB, I'll never need that much...

first there was my thread about increasing ticket fines, then VA did it,
another member had a thread about accidentally dating a relative, and then the
thread was startednow this, what next? quick everyone start a thread asking for a RWD Acura.
hmmm, it's grey.
The fact that it's on the side with the core and premium makes you wonder because they have the elite all by it's lonesome on the other side of teh table.
could be builtin hd drive, could be using the 65nm processor, could be a 20GB version of the elite.
having the fourth model is crazy IMO.
they should have made the elite true to it's name and simply added the HD drive to it as well, and left the other two alone.

I don't know if I ever would get it, but
for a black one to match the black controllers in case I ever do.

^^That 360 looks like shit. Literally. Like a cow laid a huge turd and Bill Gates somehow molded it into a console. That's probably the worst color combo ever that you can choose for a console... would rather have the Gamecube purple than that.
Sorry, horse-turd green, cow-shit brown, matte grey and 350Z orange just doesn't do it for me.
and I recently picked this up....

With the aid of Forza 2, this has awaken my 360 from its deep sleep, now I'm not going to put it down.

Microsoft plans on slashing 360 to "mass market price point"
http://www.engadget.com/2007/07/12/m...t-price-point/
If MS slashes their prices by more than $100, It'll severely hurt PS3 sales for now, but once more games come out for the PS3, it'll be an even playing field IMO.
As for competing with the Wii, xBox hasn't got anything on that IMO. The interactivity of the Wii is what's driving sales, not just the prices.
Hot on the heels of Sony's well received PS3 price drop and various rumors to this effect, Microsoft's Shane Kim has admitted in an interview that Microsoft needs to cut the 360's price to lure casual gamer types that are currently falling for the Wii. "We need to compete effectively for that customer and part of that is getting to the mass market price point for the console," said Kim. "We definitely are working on that area." He also mentioned that no such announcement will be made at E3, and there's always that hairy little problem of "profitability" that Microsoft's games unit has contended with for ages. Luckily, that new Falcon chipset should ease the pain a little bit. Kim also mentioned in the interview that Microsoft "feels very good with where we are at right now," and doesn't feel the heat from Sony's price cut, but we'll see how long that optimism lasts.

Xbox 360 getting $50 price break in August?
http://www.engadget.com/2007/07/25/x...eak-in-august/
We've been around the block a few times on this rumor, but The Hollywood Reporter is citing an unnamed source that seems to think the Xbox 360 is going to get a $50 price drop in August, so we might as well give it another go. The Hollywood Reporter is saying the pending price drop is because of the traditional sales doldrums that time of the year, and our friends at Joystiq point out the convenient proximity to a certain "Halo 3" being launched in September, but we're sure it's because Microsoft is just sick and tired of making so much dang profit on these here Xboxen. Either way, August isn't far off, so we'll be solving this little mystery right quick.

Xbox 360 HD DVD player now just $179
The already nicely priced Xbox 360 HD DVD player just got slashed to $179. The new US-only, retail pricing also includes 5 free HD DVD flicks when purchasing the player between August 1st and September 30th -- you know, the same time period 300 and Heroes goes on sale in HD DVD format. Unfortunately, the free titles must be made from a selection of just 15 pre-selected films which Toshiba considers "popular." Nevertheless, the $20 price cut makes the Xbox 360 HD DVD player all the more enticing as an easily hacked, USB-player for HD flicks on your PC.

I dunno if the $30 price cut is that big of a deal for me. I think I still want to hold out in hopes that they make a black one to match the elite.

I understand why they didn't, they wanted to be able to keep the cost of the unit down and let people choose if they wanted that feature or not. that is what helped 360 sales. If they added the drive, and up the cost of the 360 by about $75-100, it would have hurt sales for a while. eventually it would have picked up though.
Just think of all the games that could have used all that extra space on the disc for graphics though.

A fifth would be stupid on their part. Even 3 is crazy!
They should have never released the core
They should have made a 360 with a 60GB hard drive to begin with priced it at $399 and later add the elite version with built in HD DVD and a larger Hard Drive for $550. That's 2 SKU's right there. That's all they should have done.
The fact that they went from a 20GB hard drive in the original xBox to the same size hard drive in the 2nd gen was stupid IMO.

Though I got the drive for $199 and 2 free movies.
