Finally got a soundclip of my exhaust, enjoy

It's a little raspy due to being catless, however there's no rasp on hard acceleration or down shifts.

I actually bought the 1.5" pipe to do the UK mod on the extra AP2 exhaust I have. My boss has a plasma cutter and all the welding gear and is going to teach me how.

 

Comptech (CT Engineering) was always one of my favorite exhausts. It sounds really good. I had it on my berlina before. My only problem with it was the baffling went bad and I had to have lyn mufflers replaced.
It does sound good though.... I loved it

 

The one I always wanted was the Spectrum Elite...
I loved my Q300 but it was pretty loud. Loud enough for wife to almost refuse to ride in the S.

Back for round 2 with my 2nd S!

15/20MM...after driving around last night a bit and today...I didn't even have to roll fenders. I'd rather take the fender approach very slowly if need be, this time around.

With a push from my buddy Dennis...gave DMV motorsport spacers a shot...great quality...fixed center, 17MM nuts on the 15 and 19MM on the 20...
Had to sand and apply some bearing grease (I always do for ease of removal later). Also, a little trick I use to put the spacers on the front by myself using a breaker bar.

I'm slightly less low than I was on the Sebring one...I can still get the jack under the sides without 2x4.

I kept the same thread going...mileage is about the same...128K...price was considerably lower
Clean paint, zero mods other than ipod cable, front lip, headlights professionally cleared, car cover and tonneau cover included.

Yeah, I get it now...I couldn't have known how much it sucked to not own one anymore until I owned one and then didn't. I get it now why all S2000 owners either keep it, or are on their 2nd and 3rd ones.

I found a suzuka blue 2004 for $16k with 34k on the clock. Seems like an ok deal.

I am borderline desperate as i cannot find anything that either looks suspiciously cheap or ridiculously expensive.

 

I'd be way too scared to drive a car that low, but it looks great! Super clean, goes for the garage too.

 

Looks great man. Out of curiosity what's the measurement from center of hub to top of fender? I think mine was 12.75" to 13.00" or so. Yours looks slightly lower.

Your next mod should be some real tires seeing that you live in FL and can rock extreme performance summer rubber. If you don't wanna track or anything, the Federal 595 RS-R is by far the best value.

Also I have that jack and it's stupid heavy

 

Thanks, Adam...I appreciate it. Believe it or not, I'm not as low as I was in the Sebring. I can still get jack under car...only rubbed on my side on a hard right turn in the back...other than that, fenders are untouched.

Honestly, prices are up from even 1.5 years ago when I was looking for my other one. Although I have great luck...both cars, I looked one day, found and bought the very next day.

Under 20K for a low mileage, clean body/paint, soft top car...I'd jump on it if you are certain you want to be in an S2000.

My friend down here is trying fervently to find a clean S2000 ANYWHERE in the USA. He doesn't even care about price much and he's having a hard time. I'm trying to help him out!

In Florida, roads are pretty smooth overall so it's not TOO scary! I actually don't think I'm that low. The sickness is strong in me.

Yes it sure is! And when there gravel that gets caught in the wheel...it scratches my new garage floor. I have another lightweight racing one.

About tires...at Dennis' recommendation, I ordered some Sumi's...he says Billman runs them too...I appreciate your suggestion though.

Funny thing...I was losing the ass a LOT before lowering, I guess because no camber...now, it's pretty planted and hard to get sideways!

Killer deal...$406 shipped from Tire rack for stock sizes...no special pricing or anything. Ended up being $10 cheaper than after a rebate I'd have to wait for for some V12's from discount tire direct.com

 

The Ventus V12s are decent tires, although my only gripe about them is how long they take to break in.

The first 500 miles feels like the car is driving on butter, feels slippery & disconnected at freeway speeds. Once they're broken in, they're a hell of a tire for the money.

 

I had the V12's on the V2's on the Sebring one...they were great! I wanted to try something that was highly recommended, only reason I went this route.

 

Alright guys, I'm doing my very first Autocross event on the 18th and I'm going to bite the bullet and get new tires.

First and foremost, is a square setup best for Autocross? I'd imagine a little oversteer for tight corners would be best.

I'm currently running 215s on 8" fronts and 245s on 9" rears.

What would be my best tire choice for track days + daily duty? Price range would be $700 - $800.

 

My buddy Ricky Flores from S2KI swears by a 245 or 255 square setup...
Personally...I'd go 225/255 if you can fit it. Otherwise, I don't see how stock sizes can be bad...although I wouldn't let an infrequent event like auto X dictate what I roll on the rest of the week.

 

That's what I mean, man. Still functional without having to go out of your way for basic stuff, like changing a tire.

I noticed you mentioned your other S2k was lower... but a pain in the ass... to me, that doesn't work.

A square tire setup on a staggered wheel setup would not be my first choice, although finding 17x9" RPF1s + a whole new set of tires isn't exactly within my budget.

After reading reviews, I'll keep it simple and go with Bridgestone Potenza RE11s. I had the chance to try them out on my mom's AP2 and they are simply phenomenal, the V12s have a much softer sidewall.

The important thing with buying tires for autocross is to get the best setup for the class you'll be in. Anything else is a total waste of money (ask me how I know...I've been through that before). You may think otherwise now, but after a couple events you'll get it. The tire options I'd recommend fall right within your budget, so you should be set. Daily driving isn't too bad on these - they wear much faster from autocross than anything else.

You have coilovers, right?

If that's a yes, you'll be in STR and will want 17x9 +63 offset wheels and 255/40r17 all around. The TR motorsport C3 is cheap, relatively light, and fits well. I had these and later sold them for Enkei PF01ss, which are lighter and look really nice. The tire to get now is the Bridgestone RE71R (which I have on back order for myself at the moment). If you want tires sooner, you can get the Dunlop Z2 star spec in the same size. That's a great tire for a beginner because its very communicative. You'll be able to feel what the tires are doing really easily. They're fast, too.

I'd recommend a front sway bar. The whiteline bar is only like $200 and will help big time.

With that combo, your car will be fucking awesome. STR cars are ridiculously fun.

If my memory serves me wrong and you don't have suspension, get a 235/255 setup on either the RE71r or the Dunlop Z2 star specs for your stock wheels. Front bar is still recommended. Then you'll be all set for BS class. These recommendations will also be a big time help for track days too, so even if autocross doesn't turn out to be your thing, your car will also be great for HPDE.

 

Couple things to note:

RPF1s won't fit 255 wide tires without fender pulling. 245s may fit with aggressively rolled fenders. You'd be better off with a 17x9 that has an offset north of +60 though since you want all the tire you can get. That being said, I do love the RPF1s on my miata but my PF01s were awesome too.

It sounds like new wheels are out of your budget, so I'd go with a 235/255 setup. That's the standard setup for street class.

Also the RE11s are yesterday's news. You'll be giving up over a second per run vs the latest tires if you choose them. I'd really suggest the RE71R or the Dunlops. The RS3 version 2 is a solid choice as well, but has a soft sidewall which is bad if you're using the narrower stock wheels. If you're gonna spend the money you'll get much more value by getting a better tire.

If you thought the RE11s were phenomenal, your mind will explode when you run the z2 star specs.

I had the Hankook V12 on my s2000 before and now i have them on my 335.

They are great tires for the price but it took close to 1000 miles for them to be broken in on my s2000.

i even created a thread here about how scary it was. I had to exit the freeway to make sure they are not flat.

Did not have the same experience with the 335... so s2000 is very emotional when it comes to tires i guess.

Was a toss up between hankooks and the sumitomo htzr3. Went with the sumi and glad I did. No break in period and they feel awesome. Let's see how long they last

 

stock tire sizes fit fine on the 17x9 rpf1s I know people running 255 rears fine too.

its when you try to widen the front tires is when you start needing to do heavy rolling and pulling on the 17x9

and of course, height comes into play

I don't know why I shy away from it...I have little to no interest in improving lap times or any of that. I don't do it when I do a lap at the local bike trail, I don't really do it when I jog. I don' t know...kinda like a dyno, I don't really care to quantify the experience. If we had a Nurburgring and I could just do a lap around it with no other cars passing or slowing me down...I'd be grinning from ear to ear.

Which works for me because I can go for a more aggressive balance leaning on looks over function and don't have to replace rotors and pads every 2 months. I'm in no way knocking it...just good to soak in the information to know what would be needed if I ever change my mind and go that route...

AEM Intake
Comptech Exhaust w/ test pipe
Stock shocks w/ Espelir lowering springs
Enkei RPF1s - 17x8 & 17x9
Tired Stock brakes
Stock Sways
Broken motor mounts

I'm afraid 235 / 255 will rub on fronts & rears, so I might just stick with 215/245 but follow your suggestions and look into the Dunlop Z2s / Bridgestone RE71Rs

I don't expect to be putting up any phenomenal times considering my car needs work & I'll be carrying a passenger .

I wish motor mounts weren't so damn expensive, I was quoted $900 by a local shop to change them out - my car feels disconnected on high rev up & down shifts.

Would your Mom even noticed if you swapped your mounts with hers?! My Mom had a GSR integra that never saw over 4K rpm.

 

The fact your mom had a GS-R as a daily driver makes her just about the coolest mom I know. Next to Tyler's, that is.

she had a mini van when we were little. Then she crashed and replaced with a brand new 1990 Civic SI. Then the GSR...followed by a CRV...thinking she's telling me something with that one...
