well that's exactly my point. that city shot looks horrible to my eyes. but that's what a guy who sells his photos as "fine art", for even a million dollars, does. therefore, I am doing it wrong.

there's a good dose of cynicism in what I'm writing, don't take it too seriously.

iOS Blog: Facebook Abandoning HTML5 to Speed Up iOS App
Jun 27, 2012 11:01 am PDT by Jordan Golson
Facebook engineers are completely rewriting the social network iOS app to make it faster. The app, which has been criticized by many users for being extremely slow, was built using the HTML5 Web-based programming language.

It makes the app much easier for Facebook's engineers to port to other platforms like Android or Windows Mobile -- but it fails to take advantage of the iOS operating system.

As a result, the app -- which is used for everything from posting status updates to checking in to restaurants -- is much slower than comparable apps written to be a native app from the bottom up. Facebook knows this and is giving the app a complete rewrite in Objective-C, turning it into a true iPhone app and making it much faster. Nick Bilton, reporting for The New York Times:
I had the opportunity to see the yet-unreleased iPhone application and its fast. Blazing fast. The two developers I spoke with said the new application is currently being tested by Facebook developers and is expected to be updated this summer.

Don’t get too excited, though. The new Facebook app looks exactly like the old one. Facebook hasn’t changed the design, but rather focused on speed.

According to Bilton, the new and improved Facebook app should be released next month.

Facebook for iOS is available free from the App Store. [Direct Link]

can't wait to try it. And I don't care if it looks the same, the look is fine. all I want is speed!

I should be fast if it's anything like the FB camera app. But I rarely use that app :-/

WHY is finding an amazing wedding photographer so difficult? :/

I am a Bride who is getting married this summer and have yet to find a decently priced, exceptional, amazingly talented, fun photographer.

WHY because the word "WEDDING" is involved photographers think they can change you $ 3,000.00 for wedding photos? Oh, because no bride is going to go without so they are going to pay it, because they HAVE to. They are ripping people off for all they have! Why when you want to get married it costs you AT LEAST 15 grand after all is said-and-done? Its such CRAP!! I love all you $ 3,000.00 photographers out there but i think your prices are WACK. All your doing is hanging out at a wedding taking tons of photos and editing them.. and thats owrth 3 GRAND!!! You're making so much money its crazy. I just wish people would be more realistic. I mean the "average" persons salary for 1 freaking month is somewhere around 3 grand. (Thats making 19$ an hour) So you're going to take someones WHOLE MONTH paycheck for one flippen day of photos? Just because you CAN!!?????? So that maybe they will not be able to feed themselves or pay any other bills they have, right? It makes me SICK!

I know im speaking for more than just myself right now. Alot of brides out there think the same thing. & I bet all you fancy photographers wont even read this. oh-well.
Maybe there are cheaper photographers that will read this and LOVE to take my photos

stupid stupid bitch.

1) a wedding photographer works only when there are wedding...usually once a weekend...maybe two if you stretch it...more during the summer Im sure. So, they need income to offset the time not working (not PHYSICALLY working as in shooting.)

2) $19 bucks an hour aint that much...and is that only for one person? You have two there and its no longer $19 an hour.

3) $3k for wedding photos is a steal

4) your wedding is only going to cost 15K??? then shut the fuck up and be happy you penny punching whore. The avg wedding costs between 30k-40k these days...Fuck mine cost 40k and we didn't do anything extraneous and even got some deals.

5) She must be too stupid to realize the photographer isn't just there for the wedding and then they are done. They have to import 1000s of pictures, go through and make selects of her piggy ass, and process the photos. Then, set up a website, potentially buy a hard drive to deliver to you, etc. Thats a lot of hours of work being included in the actual shooting of your wedding that is happening during the week....which again translates to less than $19 an hour.

Math and common sense and not this bitches friend.

yeah, if she's spending 15k on the whole wedding, she should be browsing college classifieds for wedding photogs.

oops that is from January. I thought it looked familiar but it didn't quite sound the same as the first time I saw it. Anyways.

this article is GOOD for photographers and awareness - hopefully lots of people will see it and get educated about photography.

The one place I refused to cheap out on my wedding was the photography....and I just happened to luck out that I knew a camera assistant who did wedding with his pro photographer wife and their work was amazing (and they are just really awesome people) and they cut a break for 50% off which was $3k.

In my recent fiasco with my fiancee having the same thoughts, I saw prices all over the place. A large portion were in the 5-6k range, but I love the style of my photographer, and she was $1600 for 5 hours with just a high res disk.

I have all negatives. I had them scanned to digital a few years back, when I placed order, I remember being told was going to be like $300. When I pick them up, I was only charged $99. I didn't ask, just paid I got the hell out of there.

Our wedding photographer lost his mind a few month after our wedding and his marriage broke down, lost his house and went awol. We got one album of about 100 prints, 2 8x10s and that is it... Negatives gone. Half our prints were never sent to us.

We can only assume our negatives and photos ended up in a dumpster somewhere. We spent too much time giving him the benefit of the doubt that he would climb out of his slump... Now it is too late.

Not to discredit your story (really) - but the *big* difference is you got married 16 yrs ago and Sarlacc got married like 3-4 yrs ago (I am pretty sure). Negatives were standard 16 yrs ago.

That's why I pointed out it was 16 yrs ago. We did find photographers back then, that didn't want to give up the negatives.

So I was considering the GX1, but now I think I am going to wait and see what the GH3 is going to be, it should be announced soon.

One small trouble I have had with the GF1 is, it doesn't look like a 'professional' camera, and there were more than a few times when people are kinda looking at me funny because I am using it and not the 2 DSLR's I am carrying. I could get away with it on the GH3 since it looks like a DSLR.

Meh who cares what they think.

Throw on your 24-70 onto it and they'll think it's professional

Which kinda negates the point of the GF/GX1...the smaller easier to use size.

Yes...doing pro work you sometimes have to dog and pony show with the big impressive gear. But as long as you get the results you're clients are happy with than the work keeps coming as do the referrals.

yeah I took the photos anyway, but more than a few times somebody will go "use that camera" pointing to one of the DSLR's.. and I'm like sure, let me take one with this one first.

oh yeah, people get the impression that they are not "good enough" a subject for me to pull out the DSLR. They will even say that once in a while. I have the 17-40 and 200 mounted on the DSLR's, the former being trumped by the 20mm on the GF1 in most situations and the latter unusable for people shots at close range obviously.

Its a hard game to play...people would potentially say the same thing with a GH body.

If they aren't the client...smile take the picture with whatever camera you choose and move on.

the GH would have similar or better IQ to the GF1 with the 20mm right?

Yes...but the GH2 uses a newer chip and I think different processors...So you really have to compare the GX1 to the GH line...I don't really follow the GH, so I don't know whats rumored for the 3.

don't think I would worry about that, so long as the cameras remain m43...and I think they are pretty invested in that format.

Can always check out preview for samples

Something coming up I was hoping I wouldn't have to do, I'm taking another photographer to court on the 27th. The guy never paid me for doing a wedding almost a year ago and keeps giving me sob stories about how he has no money and is about to claim bankruptcy.

I know times are tough for some people but he gets a pension from being retired Navy and keeps posting all these photo jobs he's been getting on facebook. Just ready to be done with it. I think if he would have made any attempt to pay me anything at all, it probably wouldn't come to this.

That sucks...but you gotta do what you gotta do.

Save screen caps off all his pages with dates of these jobs he's getting...print them and take them with you.

Does GA have some sort of labor board you can file with such as CA? or do you just have to take him to small claims?
