Call me crazy!!! I have completely disassembled the Yashica D I just bought. The shutter is a little slow and needs some cleaning. They must have had awfully tiny people building these things. To give perspective the center part where the lens goes is the size of a nickel and the rest of it is shutter, delay timer and speed controller. Wish me luck getting it back together.

This 5DIII feels good!!! Huge improvement on the focusing system. Now trying to decide if I get rid of the 5DII, the 7D, or keep them all.

I negotiated a deal on POTN with a local to buy his 5D, not the best price Ive seen, but its pretty mint. I set up with him to pick it up this afternoon, later last night I get a pm back asking "Im going on vacation at the end of the month, could I keep it until then and sell it to you when I get home?"

Uhhhh, no....but you could sell it to someone else when you get home with it if you want.

Picked it up this afternoon

I have to get used to the quieter shutter, so used to the loud ass shutter in my 20D

Couldnt bare to part with the 20D, pulled out the box to take pictures with all the lens', but for the $200 I'll get for it.....I just made a spot for it in the bag

I think when I bring my lens count back up I may have grown out of the backpack that I currently use as my storage locker with the second body in the mix.

Sounds like a good excuse to then buy a roll around

thinking for now I will just keep my 24-60, and the cost of a 24-105 would be almost the same as a used 17-40 AND a 70-200 F4 non is

It's actually the other way around. 24-105L go about 800 used or so and the 17-40 goes 760 new and 200 non is new about the same.

yeah, Ive been seeing a lot of brand new 24-105's that came in the kits for 800-850ish, or about 750 used.

17-40 about 600 used, and 70-200's are about 500. not exactly "almost the same" but whats $300 when your talking about camera equipment?

That's how I feel about my 40D. That, and it's got a good bit of sentimental value.

I'm happy with the performance of my 50D but I have no sentimental attachment to it. I'm still thinking about ditching it for a 7D or 5DII later on this year, so maybe I'm distancing myself from it already so as not to get emotionally hurt.

finger on the trigger for a Panasonic Lumix 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 G Vario Aspherical MEGA OIS....... it's got good reviews and it's only $99. I'd love to have some added range on the GF1. I think I will get it.

I had some sentimental value with my Tag Heuer Monaco, but decided to sell it to fund the Zeiss 135mm f1.8, it was the BEST damn decision every made

I was wondering if the extra 150 was worth buying the sigma vs the Canon, to me there is little diffrence other than the sharpness.

difference I've read is build quality - the Sigma is heavier and sturdier. and I also consistently read that the bokeh is smoother, along with more usable sharpness wide open. anyways we shall have to see!

I (obviously) can't speak for Sigma 50mm vs Canon 50mm, but after I bought mine, for a couple weeks I still have my Sony 50mm f1.4, so I did some bokeh comparison shots before selling it, and the Sigma was a lot creamier.

(both with NO PP)
Sigma 50mm f1.4

Sony 50mm f1.4

Another advantage for me (and for a lot of people) is that the Sigma's filter size is the more common 77mm and the Sony's was something else smaller. I'm pretty sure Canon's 50mm f1.4 is something like 58mm

I know a lot of people don't use filters, but if you want to shoot in brighter environments and still want to get the bokeh with wider apertures, a 3 stop ND filter comes in handy, which I DO use. And the ND filters I have are both 77mm. So, that might play a factor for some people in decision making. But then again, cheap ND filters can be had cheap . The ones I have are Hoya and B&W... so kinda a waste if I can't use them on fast lenses.

I remember reading one of those UK photo magazines where they did a test/comparison between the Nikon, Canon, Sigma and Sony 50mm f1.4 lenses, and the Sony came in last. It really is the same lens but rebadged of the Minolta 50mm f1.4

But FWIW... a new A-mount Zeiss 50mm lens is slated to be released. Rumor is that, it's possibly a f1.2, but it will come with a BIG price tag... around $1500 (again, rumored)

(no thanks )

I never noticed the little copyright symbol with each on my photos in Flickr, has that always been there?

Licensing types play a pretty big part on flickr. It's integrated into a lot of things - including search and how it gets picked up by other systems like google and other image search tools.
