Okay so my shutter is getting sticky...
i hope its not dead but i'm reading that it is.
My mirror get stuck so i see black on the viewfinder everyone is telling me the shutter is going and i'd need to get it replaced.
problem is this is my only body at 80,000 shutter since may 08. I'm wondering if i should invest in a new body at this time in case they go down more often.

Are you sure it's the shutter and not just the mirror that's sticking? If the shutter is sticking open, I presume the body is going to be smart enough to keep the mirror up until the shutter does close. Still though, I'm thinking a test like this would help to isolate the problem:
1) put the camera on manual
2) set the shutter speed to something reasonably fast like 1/250 or faster
3) turn on mirror lockup
4) blast through a bunch of exposures and listen to whether the shutter seems longer on any of them

Camera is always on manual and it only the mirror sticks in cold weather situations so far i haven't had it happen in warm weather.
They seem all right at various speeds.

It looks like the rumors of a 60D from Canon have gone from "probably February" to "not in 2010". So now I'm wondering what to get myself for xmas: replace my Rebel xsi with a 7D, or keep the xsi and get the 35mm f/1.4L.
I'm starting to dislike the xsi. Primarily it's low light performance, and low FPS in continuous shooting. The only thing I really like about it is its weight.

I'm going to Irvine this weekend, a friend of mine is buying an ITR and we're gonna do a photoshoot. I'm gonna try to pick up a D300, some lenses, a couple SB900's and some stands and umbrellas. I'll post up the pics on Monday
Seeing as how my immune system sucks when it comes to software toys as well as hardware toys, I decided to pick up Adjust 3 and Simplify 2 from Topaz Labs. These things are hugely fun to play with! Sure you can do some of the same basic stuff with the controls and adjustments in PS/LR. But the Topaz plugins do it faster give you more control, and (at least in my opinion) do it better than just using the clarity and vibrance sliders. I'll try to post some examples in the experimental thread sometime in the next few days.
that 240 in your avatar is hot!!! got any more pics? thx

a technique Ive seen some people use is, post your comment on the person's regular wall, rather than in that big comment thread.. minimizes the e-mails and your message is still conveyed.
Sandisk changed their "rating" system, everybody got use to the old way they promoted their speeds vs the names they gave their cards. I read somewhere even those the new cards have bigger numbers in some cases they are slower. I haven't bought SanDisk CF cards in over two yrs, I've been using Transcends, I have two 266x cards and two 300x cards, all 8gb.
