On that logic, let's try to take the 1-Series (the cheapest of the German brands) et al and compare it to Acura's cheapest car...the ILX.

Yeah, nope. Try again.

Meanwhile, while some of us attempts that comparison, somewhere...over in Germany...those darned engineers and execs at BMW et al are laughing their heads off and all the way to the bank.

Not to mention that all three of the aforementioned German manufacturers have been selling A- and B-class cars in Europe for a very long time.

Well, you are reaching there, bringing the comparo to such a high water mark as BMW.

Let's compare the ILX to the A3 and CLA with their turbo charged engines...and....aww never mind. You win again with your logic and facts.

Seriously, WHY ARE PEOPLE TRYING TO COMPARE ACURA TO BMW AND THE GERMANS?!??!???!??

This Asian boat has sailed LONG ago. MOVE ON, people!!

The ONLY Japanese car manufacturer that even has a SHOT to be in the same conversation with the German Big Three is Toyota/Lexus. Period.

Overall, I think it looks great. Beak and all. It should be interesting to see the final numbers and technical data.
Well, it's an extra choice for consumers. You know, people used to complain how the 2G RL only came in AWD form.

Just wondering, does BMW combine all the 3-series variants into one sales number (i.e. sedan, coupes, convertibles, wagons, 325i, 328i, 330i, x-drive, M, CSL, etc)? Or are the numbers above just for the 330i sedan? I'm actually not sure about this. My understanding is that, for the 2004 to 2005 TL, you can pick 5AT, 6MT, or a-spec.

Can we stop quoting the TLX images of front angle?

I believe it was a combination of all 3 series. But i am not sure if M3 is in there.
It is only Acura's fault that they can only afford to offer limited choices.

I think from 2014+ 3 series sales # r going to drop because of 4 series. But with the addition of 320, i might be wrong. i see a 3 series every 30 secs here in LA.

I think it is a bit too blinged out with the chrome, could be a bit more subtle/refined and still be aggressive. But other than that, this looks to be a winner. Still not impressed with those jewel headlights. They work well, but there's no design to them. they're just there. That is what separates Audi from Acura, and Audi still has the upper hand in the design category.

I'm hoping they don't bling out the interior in the same way in order to try to make it flashy.

This TLX is going to do very well and it will be like the old days when the only competition in it's segment for the TL will be the BMW 3.

Let's take a closer look at the TLX'S competitors before you bash it.

Q50-Basically a more expensive G37. It's like if Acura decides to rise the price of the 4G TL and call it a 'TLX'. Who the Hell will want that?

Lexus IS- Giant fish net at the front. We are not living under water. Why do we need to catch fish? That design is going to age very badly. We are not fishermen. We are drivers.

Audi A4. My Mom drove a 2011 Audi A4. It had the worst oil consumption issue ever. They said it's 'all good' for 2014, but we all know they are lying. Good luck with your Audi leaking oil every 2k miles by 2015. Have fun topping it off every month.

Cadillac ATS- I'm not saying it might break. I'm saying right now it WILL break. You will be driving a broken down American Box by mid 2015. After 30,000 Miles, it will fall apart on the road and if you are stuck in a wilderness area you will probably get eaten by wolves.

Volvo S60- Good looking car, but name is like woman's vagina.

BMW 3 Series and Mercedes C Class- Name value, but looking duller and duller over the years.
Now that was brilliant!!!
That made my day

Yeah, it's every variant of the 3 series. If it's a 3 series, it's included in the #. But then again, H_CAR did say 3 series. He didn't specify 325, 330, etc.

Moogs might need to put the hate bucket away. In person it actually looks pretty good. They didn't have the interior open which was mildly disappointing. Didn't catch if they were still going to offer a 6MT.

sorry to tell you that this is a prototype, not a production version. After the production version is released, you would wish they kept the 2 tone 20s.

Lexus went way overboard with their design language, same with Infiniti. Whereas Acura needed to dial up, those two needed to dial down. With this TLX, Acura has figured out that balance. They now need to master finesse, it's still a bit heavy handed in some ways.

Thanks for the brilliant insight, but other than mild revisions to the front fascia and perhaps the rear bumper, we're looking at a stock TLX.

With smaller wheels also.

Acura by far did NOT need to dial up the front grille department.
We saw what happened when they did that with the 4G TL

What Acura needed and still needs is a new corporate front end.
The current pointed nose, 5 point grille/beak is dated, goofy, and polarizing.

I would have hoped they TLX would have kick started a new look for Acura.

I guess we will have to wait at minimum another 5 years to see what they do next.

Acura has been running with their 1995 CL-X concept front end forever now.
Can you believe that design is nearly 2 decades old already?

and the mirror and exhaust outlets.

You know the mild revisions you are talking about could be the stupid Amber DRL in with a fog light for the front bumper and make it look like a 4G with LED.

Consumer Reports' best and worst of Detroit Auto Show

LA Times,

Misses:

Acura TLX

"The car entries from Acura are not very competitive. Acura does well on SUVs but is still for the large part putting Acura names on Honda vehicles. That doesn’t provide a good value. It doesn’t bring anything to the table. It looks like a vanilla mid-size sedan. It might as well be a Ford Fusion."
Unfortunately, I tend to agree. In a way it's o.k.,... I'll just keep modding my 4G SH-AWD 6SPD M/T!!!!

What is unfortunate here is, lost in all of this strange-arguing of apples/oranges, Acura does have a nice reveal.

But, it's subject to: technical numbers, MSRP, final look.

And oh, I'm sorry I even went to that thread in the TL forums. I think I prefer arguing about reposts...actually, no...I take that back. Arguing about reposts is worse.
