Acura TLX
"The car entries from Acura are not very competitive. Acura does well on SUVs but is still for the large part putting Acura names on Honda vehicles. That doesn’t provide a good value. It doesn’t bring anything to the table. It looks like a vanilla mid-size sedan. It might as well be a Ford Fusion."
Unfortunately, I tend to agree. In a way it's o.k.,... I'll just keep modding my 4G SH-AWD 6SPD M/T!!!!

We saw what happened when they did that with the 4G TL
![ugh](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/ugh.gif)
What Acura needed and still needs is a new corporate front end.
The current pointed nose, 5 point grille/beak is dated, goofy, and polarizing.
I would have hoped they TLX would have kick started a new look for Acura.
I guess we will have to wait at minimum another 5 years to see what they do next.
Acura has been running with their 1995 CL-X concept front end forever now.
Can you believe that design is nearly 2 decades old already?

I really like the look of the new TLX. I absolutely love the look of the profile and rear, especially at rear 3/4 view. I even like the front. I hated the initial design of the 4G TL, and strongly disliked the refreshed version, primarily due to the beak. I really think it works in this latest iteration though.
I've been looking a little at the entry-lux class recently and very few entries really impress me. Either their designs don't do anything for me, out-of-warranty repair costs scare me, or the powertrains are carryovers in need of improvement. If Acura can bring out the production version without screwing it up, give it a nice interior and price it competitively(i.e., cheaper than most of the comp), I'll give it some strong consideration.

Love it! SO glad Acura got it right this time. I have a feeling I am going to have a 15 TLX in my driveway soon. I think its aggressive but clean. Unlike Lexus and BMW. Those cars are just straight up fugly. Audi is looking long in the tooth too.

As a rule, I cannot censor unless it gets personal...so, attack on race, religion, gender, and etc.
MTEAZY's arguments may be a bit...unconventional...but, he's just continuing on the point of Acura's designs versus the competition and what HE thinks are comparable.
Am I too Gandhi here?

I'm a bit surprised that they haven't gone more to the amended plenum on the NSX, that's the best twist so far.

He's just saying that the TLX appears boring to him...which he has a right to do.
But, sure...it's possible to argue the review is premature but he is at the auto show and he does have to report which cars have that "buzz". And in some of the reveals (i.e. the FT-1, Z06), we do have some show-stoppers.

Is there any more info regarding engine options?
So far:
2.4L NA 4
3.5L NA V6
More specifically, I have read numbers anywhere from 220-240hp for the 2.4. Can someone confirm this yet, or is it too early? At first thought, I want to say that a naturally aspirated 4 cylinder does not provide enough torque to move this size car (like I would want it to). However, information released today seems to highlight their 8 speed DCT which will keep things in efficient torque ranges. Audi does this well with their 2.0Ts and DCTs but there is a major factor here... a turbo! It provides awesome torque numbers. Unless Honda/Acura has something up their sleeve (IE: a turbo 4 cyl, similar to the new rumoured Civic Type R) then I am very skeptical that this 2.4 will provide sufficient numbers.

Everyone's a critic...
Having just spent some serious seat time in an RLX for the last couple of weeks, I feel like it is still valid to argue that Acura makes great driving cars. In fact, I would have no qualms rating my initial drive of the RLX equally as favorably, and possibly more favorably, as the 535d I tested not that long ago. The engineering is still top notch, but their designs, infotainment, and marketing have long lagged behind the competition. Plus, their staunch refusal to adopt direct injection when everyone else was doing it and seeing huge fuel economy benefits from it was foolish.
Now, with the TLX, they have addressed the design issue with something that is certainly not groundbreaking or earth shattering, but is clean, elegant, and likely to still look good after a decade or more. The infotainment is likely updated to be the dual screen setup of the RLX and MDX, which I rather like and found generally intuitive and easy to use. The motors are direct injected and will likely see both some performance improvements as well as fuel economy gains. They have also largely sorted out the EPS issue and have demonstrated that they are clearly capable of doing EPS in a way that isn't completely devoid of feel and feedback.
Given that we still have limited details on how this car will actually perform, I am reluctant to declare this a total success, but I think calling it an unmitigated disaster is also hyperbole at best and disingenuous at worst. It may not be as exciting as a limited production car like the Q50 Eau Rouge or a more purebred performance coupe like the Toyota FT-1, but those cars are not mainstream and are not intended to be the bulk of a company's sales, whereas the TLX will likely be a make or break point in Acura's sedan business. Sure driving "excitement" at and auto show for the media is important, but I think even more important is driving "interest" from real world buyers outside of the enthusiasts.
Just remember that at the end of the day, as much as we enthusiasts like to bitch and moan, the best selling cars in the world are the plain vanilla Honda Accord and Toyota Camry and that the 3G TL, for all its faults, was at one point the best selling "luxury" car in world. Perhaps we should all reserve some judgement for when this car actually starts to hit dealer lots and there is an opportunity for real world impressions from actual people.

On the contrary it is a niche market on many of their cars, as they don't really compete head to head in most of the categories the way let's say 3 series, A4, IS, C class, ATS compete...or GS, 5 series, CTS, A6, E class compete.
Outside of the MDX and RDX....it's a niche market for Acura.

The older Acura products that were a niche were the Integra/RSX, NSX and ZDX since majority of their main brand competitors didn't have a equivalent model. You could also argue the CL as well.

Oh, let it go. No one's praising the i3. Which, BTW, I think is horrible but I hope they sell these things by the boatload, thus improving their CAFE number, and allowing them to continue to make 500+hp M cars.

2014 Detroit Auto Show: Coolest new cars from Day Two in Detroit

Acura appears to have finally found its footing again in the luxury market. The brand lost the plot somewhat, especially in terms of styling – the controversial “plenum” grilles didn’t help (they’re usually referred to as “the beak”).
RELATED: 2015 ACURA TLX PROTOTYPE IS SLEEK, EFFICIENT REPLACEMENT OF TL
The TLX has an attractive exterior, along with a wide range of good stuff happening beneath the sheet-metal. A 2.4-liter 4-cylinder and 3.5-liter V-6 is available, as is a choice of front or all-wheel-drive. Acura’s all-wheel steering system is also optional, and should give the TLX incredibly nimble handling.

A different perspective! Definitely will have to wait and see it. No M/T will be disappointing for the first year, but eventually I'm sure they'll produce one. shhhhhh.

Must... ignore... the... fanboys...
Why does it have a 9spd? How often would you have to shift (Assuming this car has a Sport mode with paddles like the TSX) anyways?
Also, I heard somewhere on this forum that it well have Brembo's. Any truth to this?

Then there's the push Start/Stop button way down below by the knee.
I know the MDX center stack has that flared design too, but it looks a little better and the control knob is better located too. It looks more cohesive.

They are spread throughout the dozen or so threads about the TLX, but I would say the single biggest offender is probably the thread titled "The TLX is crap." It is not specific to this thread, or even this site, though some of the complaints I have seen here make go

FINALLY, they fixed their styling. This style looks great, especially the rear end. But its a little too late.
Because, this is what the TL should have looked like in 2009. I think it also looks a bit too similar to the RLX, so they should offer the TLX as a coupe as well to differentiate it from the RLX.

2015 TLX rear end = This is what the TL should have looked like in 2009, Acura is step behind, because, now its gonna be even harder to earn back the loyal clients who left Acura because of the horrible design changes in 2009

No. It's the way it flares out up top and how the control knob is separated from the screen and placed down below.

Anyway. TLX. Fusion lease is up fall 2016...I'll be graduated from college and gainfully employed. This car will most definitely be on the list. Good move, Acura. Even my 55 year old father (who was utterly repulsed by the 4G) likes it.
Really curious about pricing. For a second I thought it'd be way more than the 4G, but at the same time, they axed the TSX and have this now. Who knows.

Some dude
It was started by a 4G TL owner. Of course 4G TL owners are going to say the "TLX is CRAP".... they still need to convince themselves that the 4G TL doesn't look like
and that their purchase was a good/smart decision. ![rofl](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/rofl.gif)
