has it worked well for Acura? Other brands share a proven "look", Acura wanna their cars to look like ILX and RLX? a proven failure?
You have to understand while base cars look similar, there is no argument there. But you forgot They also offer models like these:

Acura's lineup has been disjointed from 1986 til the mid 2000's. There was little product and styling overlap. As for the current lineup, the problem is more than the family styling cues. Not a fan of the beak, but Acura has some more product and price point issues that need to be addressed. They need to return to 3G TL excitement and feature/function/price that made it a success.
Some folks on this page were implying there were differences, look above.
And didn't forget, I and others on these threads know what the others offer as well.

reliability/dependability and resale value over the Germans but not Lexus

Unfortunately, the RLX has all the above over the Germans, but still won't sell well.
Therefore, even with all the above advantages is still not good enough.

^ Curious to see what if any the RLX AWD will do, time will tell.

It's mostly packaging and marketing. Design is another obvious one.
The same reason why Apple destroys its competition despite offering essentially the same product.

The AWD RLX will definitely do well in terms of projected sales, because Acura deliberately manipulates the supply by limiting the production rate, in order to make buyers fight for the couple of units allocated to each dealership each month.

, hard to say they only recently started it recently so it's hard to say.

Thats funny, I was just thinking how tired I am of seeing small exhaust tips on newer cars and then I see that Acura is hiding them. I dig that.
Leave the notable exhaust tips for the high performance models. Or at the very least, integrate them into the bumper for those cars that arent.
RL has good resale value?

I thought that was a MDX....

The only visually diff. between that thing and the 2014 MDX is the center portion of the lower bumper grille and also the side mirrors.

Look how different the 3gtl was from the TSX and RL. TSX and TL both sold great (RL, well thats a whole different story) Based on how bland the RLX is and that the sales of the ILX havent come close to meeting the original goal, having the TL look like those to isnt going to help its sales either. Acura continues to flop on the design that would spark interest and passion.
The ILX has poor drivetrain selection and price point/feature/function set and hence suffering in sales.

The most egregious examples these days are probably Ford with the MKZ/Fusion and potentially VW/Audi with the A3/Golf and whatever happens to the Jetta on the MQB platform.
The MKZ is a nice car but I'd rather save the money and buy the Fusion. I'll be going to the same dealer for service anyway and the Lincoln isn't THAT much better than the Ford.
Edit: Although Lexus continues to be the master of pulling it off with the Camry/ES350.

Acura may run itself out of the car business, and only keep SUV sales for those women who want an upscale Honda.

^^ "Acura played it safe on the styling here" When speaking of the concept.
...then he goes on to speak of how Acura watered down the MDX concept, and wonders if the same will be done for the TLX.
Funny, but sad.....typical Honda.

Yea, the 3GTL came about. Then they made a great 4th Gen car BUT they decided to change the front 5 point grille to an abomination and have continued to tell them selves every year, well if we tweak it a little more it will look good with the same results Someone high up needs to have a design contest to come up with a different corporate look.

I know right....
I was thinking the TSX is gonna be entry level, TLX mid level and then RLX....
I have no idea why Acura is not making their line up more powerful and just cutting down on cars....
BMW has like 7 series of cars and 2 of them have 'grand coupes' and the RWD and AWD and different engine sizes and finally the M....same with Audi, same with MB....
I know this has been mentioned before but Acura is just committing suicide and making a horrible attempt at that
