The current torque limit is 275. I’m not sure about the HP limit, but the RLX makes 310 HP and it has the 10 speed. I guess it has increased since this article because the RDX makes 280 lb-ft.

You can have the same basic design with higher torque limits. The V6t will get a beefed up 10AT. If you wanna see a design with multiple torque limits just look at how many variants there are of the ZF 8AT. There’s about 10 variants based on torque loads.

SH-AWD differential limits will be limiting factor rather than capacity of 10 AT (atleast that is what i get from users who drove both fwd and shawd RDX and feel that Acura is reducing power in lower gears to protect shawd). 10AT has 3.25 or so gear ratio in second gear and 2+ in third gear, if they can get full torque (let's assume 350 lb-ft for V6T at 1600 rpm), it will be lot of torque after multiplication in seond and third gears and if Acura wants to transfer 50% or more of it to rear wheels, it will need a lot of beefing up of clutch plates of sh-awd.

The J-Series isn’t dead yet, The MDX wont get the 2.0t. Japan actually wanted the 2.0t to replace the J-Series period. AHM (American Honda) fought back and said we want both he 2.0t and the J-Series and they actually won. The next gen base MDX will have an updated J30/Hybrid system and thats not to be confused with the current MDX Sport Hybrid system. The base MDX should make around 330hp with the MDX Type-S using a variation of the 3.0t from the TLX Type-S.
#686
Thanks, I know your info is legit and BGR has a good track record as well. So MDX gets updated J30 I can live with that also allows it to be sold in other parts of the world that have taxes on displacement. Logic points to some serious upgrades on the performance end sounds like Acura is just looking for the right balance Type S may not be the fastest but may be the best overall balqnce in class if executed well. If history repeats itself that is whaat put Acura on the map in the first place.
#687
After reading your post again, that is lot more power to extract out of the J30 almost 100hp over the current form how can they do that without turbo? It makes more sense to to just detuned the turbo like I said before. Or are you suggesting that the regular MDX will be serial hybrid in non Type S form?
#688
Yes, understand that but this is the first time I am hearing the MDX is getting a hybrid as a base engine doesnt sound right but time will tell. I guess this assumed J30 will also be for bigger Honda Honda vechicles. Also does that mean no more 3 motor sport hybrid for the next generation MDX or base model becomes essentially sport hybrid with single motor possibly? Not everyone wants hybrid they still need a regular versions IMO

I read an article a few days ago, it was an interview posted early this month and Acura rep said the engineers have not decided on what engine to use yet. If true you won't see a Type S until much later this year or possibly early next year.

I love all the rumor talk here. Someone said 2021 production was starting already. Now they don't know what engine to use. . .lol. . Just wait until they announce it. Speculation is like predicting an earthquake. You can throw 50 guesses up hoping something sticks and then you can say I was right when something hits! SuperHandlingTL may sound knowledgeable but he said with certainty that the new generation model is coming out as a 2020 a while back. We're all guessing. No one knows for sure what they're doing. I'm just hoping it's not diluted like I'm expecting. . .

SuperHandling is also a member on TOV and he does have good sources. Many have already said the recent quality controls have caused delays on Honda products. The V6T I always heard late 2020 so wouldn't be off target at all although I am sure they are doing further testing to make sure it is ready for primetime. I expect the base model will be in showrooms by early spring the powertrain is already in production so all that left is the final testing for aero etc. then reveal. Lastly I am sure the AA integration with the true pad touch has added to some unexpected delays.

He's where I get vast majority of my info as well. His contact drove the 2.0T last week in camo and very impressed based on initial drive. Interior is improved even over the RDX and camo lines suggest it sticks to the concept.

Three Wheelin'
That is basically impossible to believe for a vehicle that will be out in the next 12 months. And keep in mind that the Japanese are famous for not allowing any information to get out that they don’t want out...which is darn little.

Uhh... I’m pretty sure Acura would have no reason to build a mule, then test it against an S4 and C43, if they have not decided (or at least be 99% certain) on an engine and rest of the powertrain. You don’t build one-off engines and cars for fun. A mule should mean your design is 80-90% of the way to final.
Obvious lying is obvious. I suppose a couple good reasons to keep a secret are to save it for a big press release or keep a lid on it because it’s embarrassing. Either that or the catastrophic case is their mules came nowhere close their competition or goals, so someone actually sent engineering back to the drawing board. Starting to feel bad for people actually waiting for this car... or a single specification.

It does make to great "leaked" publicity shots to enhance the cars image before there is a car. Something like all the race car livery & NSX cars in the current TLX commercial series.

So which Auto Show can we expect the car to debut or be teased? There's a Toronto International Auto Show in Feb.

As I indicated in the Sales thread, getting the MDX right AND out as soon as possible is the top priority! .......besides, the lease on my 17 is coming due in 11 months.

LOL...Your paragraphs kind of contradict each other. And a mule is not 80-90% close to production. A mule doesn't even test with the current camo design. We should feel bad for you that you're not waiting for the car, but somehow manage to 'accidentally' click on this thread...
This whole thread has devolved into talking about nothing. It's like Speed_Racer said: "I love all the rumor talk here. Someone said 2021 production was starting already. Now they don't know what engine to use. . .lol." No one seems to know anything. All we've seen is silver tongue chatter from executives, a concept body and a few mules driving around, which wouldn't have been made if they weren't benchmarking a likely engine/powertrain. Then I went on to explain why Acura might be using all these smoke and mirrors - either production delays or mules underperformed. Not sure if you know what contradiction means? They make mules to test something, not for fun.
Whatever the case, this doesn't look good. In fact, it looks like Acura is putting itself right back in the same boat it was in launching the 1G TLX. They had already ceased the TSX and TL and needed a replacement sedan, so it was released with issues. This time around, if they really don't have an engine yet, they will have to choose between rushing a new 2G out or carrying over the 1G MMR for an unprecedented 4th straight year, which would be stunning.
I'm neither an optimist or a pessimist. I'm a realist. I don't have a dog in the fight. I would actually reconsider Acura if they do something amazing. But right now, based on the facts (lack of any details), it's fair to say this isn't shaping up to be a good launch. How long does it take IIHS, NHTSA, EPA and others to test new cars before they are sold? Or car mags to publish a list of new releases? You can already build and/or reserve your 2020 Corvette and your 2021 Mach-E. But the new 2021 TLX doesn't have an engine yet? Don't be so naive to believe everything you read or gullible to believe Acura can meet ridiculous expectations.

The delay in the new TLX could be for the following reasons:
1. Acura is conducting more tests to avoid initial new car issues.
2. It's not meeting their expectations. It's not competitive enough compared to the Germans. For example, the HP is low, doesn't handle handle well or doesn't look luxury enough.
3. They are just F****** around with us lol! There is no new TLX this year.
But all jokes aside, the initial leaked pics from the RDX was done in purpose. They gave us a sneak peak of the product. Now just sit back and wait. It's sucks but I hope Acura doesn't delay the product to the point that people lose interest and move on to other brands.

U mad bro? For calling out a manufacturer for using Jedi mind tricks? I didn't accidentally stumble on this thread. I follow it because, like others, I'm interested in the massive amount of speculation and lack of any specifications on this car, supposedly being released late in 2020 as a 2021 model. That would be an amazing feat if they haven't picked an engine yet.

Of course the damn thing has an engine. It’s a 3.0T and it will be out this year. If you know they make mules to test something, then you’re smart enough to realize the quad exhaust mule you saw last year had an engine in it I’m sure. Take your own advice and don't believe everything you read. As I've mentioned before, my source isn't from these articles.
