Is everyone ready for the Type S Concept? (Reveal Pics Page 5)

You have to look at North American sales as a whole. Acura is in the 165-170k range for 2019. Infiniti was 120k. Lexus was in the high 200’s. Acura’s current goal is to break 200k consistently which is possible with a revamped lineup. Audi is in the mid 200k range as they’ve more than doubled their annual sales in less than a decade. Its possible for Acura to do similar with the right products.

I actually wrote a few weeks ago, for Acura to hit 200K units is easy but they need to make a few changes. By updating the mdx, Acura will sell ~120K units just in suv.
What needs to be done?
TLX needs to be updated and offer 2 engine options, hopefully the sales number would be around 40K units.
ILX can sell around 20-25K units if it’s updated and offers similar features as A3 and CLA. 1800-2000 units is a piece of cake if ILX is updated. Young professionals will be the perfect target market.
Last but not least Acura needs CDX or ZDX to generate another ~15K to 20K units. They will surpass 200K units with Canadian market.

2) Audi doesn't make any RWD cars at all aside from the R8; they're all FWD or AWD (with most of them being front-biased Haldex units), yet they're still perceived to be in the same echelon as MB and BMW.

1) A large number of those cars counted in the FWD bucket are AWD (I'll admit they're front-biased AWD)

I thought all performance models of Audi are RWD (with Quattro added). Which FWD vehicle is going to put 445hp/toque or 600 hp/torque properly and constantly send 60-70% of power to rea wheelsr? Audi's problem is placing of engine in front of front axle which screws weight balance and cornering.

When will we see this new model?
So any ideas on when we actually see this new version of the TLX? Also, this video below shows a great look what the TLX could be. Hopefully they add the screen for the gauges as well. The leaked pictures almost show that screen but I'm not sure. Hopefully Acura steps up and makes a great new sedan.

The MLB platform is a hybrid of sorts. The drivetrain layout is longitudinal but for some reason, Audi potions the engines on or over the front axle. That also use the same ZF8 AT as BMW and many other RWD applications.

1. crash testing.
2. cabin intrusion.
3. maintenance and accessibility.
What I don't get is why the A8 has the worse proportions out of the bunch maybe due to size who cant hide the overhangs as much the A5 and A6 for example have very tight overhangs with short front bumpers.

A couple of reason I can think of possiblly is
1. crash testing.
2. cabin intrusion.
3. maintenance and accessibility.

No one knows. It's been very quiet, too quiet if you ask me. Especially when you are about to release an all new model. WTH is Acura marketing doing. At bear minimum, they should be releasing weekly teasers.

Finally got to go test a G70 3.3T Sport AWD this morning. I must say I was very impressed.
That engine felt strong at every point and the transmission was very quick to kick down a gear or two when in sport mode. The seats with all of the customization (bolster and thigh extender) were very comfortable, the leather felt nice and I liked the diamond quilted pattern as well. I really liked the HUD, very customizable, lots of relevant information being displayed. Sound system was very good as well. Was shocked to learn that the car doesn't need premium gas too.
I am not a big fan of the tacked-on display the G70 has similar to what Audi/MB have recently gotten rid of, I think it looks much better on the Acura RDX where it is mounted a little deeper on the dash. It did seem to be a very responsive display. The rear seat legroom is on the small side relative to the competitive class but I had no issue sitting in the back behind myself at 5'9 with a few inches between my knees and the seatback.
All things considered, Acura is going to have their work cut out for them especially when this tops out at $52K with 365 horsepower and 376 lb-ft of torque. Really hoping for some information very soon on the TLX or I might be pulling the trigger on the G70.

I still believe the Japanese won over the Korean. But in terms of performance, I can’t comment.

As an Infiniti owner, I will say that they need to step it up a bit...as I feel they are in a bit of a rut.
That being said, the G70 is a fun car despite the so-so interior. If we're talking interiors though, really, the best are the Germans...and yes, I'm biased but the Audi cabin is just tits.

The fact that G70 is a 2020 model, it didn’t blow my mind.
i think Germans are always one step ahead of Japanese. I was checking the X7 and oh man! The interior is simply wow. The quality of leather, stitches and lighting. No way Germans can match that.
#904
Also, taking the top spot on Consumer Reports says it's a great value proposition at $52K in the entry-level luxury space.
I have less experience with the Germans but will say they are putting together some very sharp interiors, but you pay a premium for that. I'm also not a fan of the counter-clockwise speedometers that have recently been introduced a la BMW.

I don’t disagree with you at all. TLX and Q50 aren’t wow. But considering they are 6 year old models, I won’t be very harsh. But yes, all the Japanese need a SOS update.

As to your last sentence, I think you typed the wrong country by accident. How can the Germans not match a German vehicle? Ooops.

Ugh, feels like this Type S is taking forever to finally come out. ![Frown](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/frown.gif)
I loved some of the older Audi's, but, recent ones are mostly quite ugly next to the TLX (not even talking about the Type S) - they look like upside down Art Deco bathtubs, and I particularly dislike the heinous new "fastback" designs. Plegh.
I am jealous of BMW/MB RWD models in terms of them having RWD though. I want a Acura version of the Civic Type R, but, w/RWD, 6MT, and the 2.0T engine, with, reserved classy styling (unlike the Type R).

Surprised no one noticed this yet. NYIAS updated their vehicle galleries sometime between Friday (when I last checked) and today. It doesn't appear that a new TLX or even the Type S Concept will be in attendance.

They won't post until Acura makes their announcement. Dealer orders are starting next month so it has to be there unless they do a private reveal.

Thanks for sharing these pics. But honestly, I am a bit tired of these posts. Acura is sleeping and there is no news about the new TLX and MDX. Tbh, the RDX buzz is over now. People got it. It's a good car, drives well and it's priced reasonably. Now, even the RDX needs a minor update. So, Acura has nothing to offer in terms of marketing to bring people to the dealership. Oh! I forgot, the PMC edition lol! C'mon Acura. Keep the momentum.

After seeing the new Genesis GV80 and knowing the G80 is going to debut next month I'm losing interest in the Type S.
That's why I think Acura shouldn't have shown the concept last August if the production version isnt debuting until april and on sale months late . I'm over it.

Not 100% correct what you just wrote. but if you are comparing the entire lineup, then yes you are right and Audi started outselling Acura for the last decade and so. Since, we are on the topic of TLX, i though to share that TLX is outselling A4 most of the time.

I just went to the acura website and there is a 4 or 5 second clip from the commercial that keeps playing and you can clearly see how pronounced the hips are on the new tlx, and compared to the current tlx it looks much different.
