Well, the new generation Honda Accord Coupe was shown last week at the Detroit Auto Show. Often, the Accord will preceed the Acura and give some hints as to what the Acura will look like since they have been sharing the same platform.

Let's hope that something like this comes out with a V8 and SH-AWD:

mannnn let me tell u something
who ever did that TL coupe will for sure get a job a the acura company....lol

The back of the car resembles a G35 sedan.
Maybe the "covers" or camouflage will be an option. You know: like the oogly girl friend that was a two-bagger.

Some ppl think the TL with the disguise looks better that the RL without.

The TL 2009 will be like the CTS 2008 for Cadillac, or the new Ford Mondeo, or the Jaguar XF. A new step for Acura brend.

Guys, as of about 6-8 months ago they were battling to get better times with a version of the Type-S engine in the new "standard" car attached to the SH-AWD platform. (Again, I don't know if FWD will be offered as well, I'm just aware of the testing of the SH-AWD.) At the time, they were having troubles making enough of a jump from this gen to the new gen.

Now......I dunno. Got no news on that front. Just thought I'd pipe up once again to be ridiculed by the masses....

I am not sure if it is quite this bad, but the TL being well received is for sure WAY more important than the RL and TSX if not for any other reason than sheer volume.

I was just looking (yet again) at the G35 and having owned a 2005 TL and a 2003 G35 ... I'd say Acura is due its turn to leapfrog One thing I am impressed with is the G35 technology factor (they have established themselves as a legitimate sports sedan from a performance perspective), but at the end of the day that is where Acura can match, beat interior looks, go for an advantage push on performance (even with FWD nevermind SH-AWD), and of course come thru with better MPG.

Looking forward to the release ... I have the TL in my next car to lease short list for sure. Maybe Acura will get scared based on RL/TSX reaction and break normal protocol and leak some TL info

P.S. It won't hurt for the TL to sport an above Acura-average outer skin like the current gen did when it came out !

CNET Car Tech Blog.....(2009 TL mentioned)

".....your correspondent found himself in a car with Dan Bonawitz, vice president of corporate planning and logistics at American Honda. Bonawitz had some interesting things to say about some of the technologies on forthcoming Acura and Honda vehicles (aside from the top-secret 2009 TSX in which we were driving).

Firstly, he mentioned that Acura's Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS), currently exclusive to the flagship RL sedan, would likely make its way to other models in the the U.S. lineup in the future. While we're not expecting to see the radar-based system in the redesigned TL sedan, due to be unveiled later this year, we wouldn't be surprised to see it on future iterations of the MDX or RDX SUVs. The second tech-related tidbit was that Honda is not intending to bring the Internavi Premium Club to the United States. Internavi is a subscription-based service currently available in Japan that provides weather and user-submitted geotags on points of interest to drivers via an internet connection. Instead, Bonawitz said that Acura vehicles in the United States would continue to use the AcuraLink architecture to stream data such as traffic and weather to their GPS navigation systems."

Truthfully Acura needs to worry more about the driving characteristics and exterior aesthetics on their vehicles more than their techno-prowess, especially in the highly competitive segment the TL will be in.

All-New 2009 TSX to Debut at New York International Auto Show

....

Acura unveiled the new 2009 RL at the Chicago Auto Show last week and also announced the company will introduce an-all new TL performance luxury sedan later this year.

....

The 2009 Acura TSX will be introduced during the New York International Auto Show media days which occur on March 19th and 20th.
We know about the TSX, but the way this reads it doesn't sound like the TL/TL Concept will be in NY next month. That sucks.

Going by what my dealer told me, they were going to be traveling to the NY show because the TL was going to be there.

Its less than a month away, although I have high hopes they do release it... we'd have a better picture of what it would look like if they were really going to release it

I think if they do release anything "tl"... it will be a concept they dumped in the trailer last minute

Exactly, and why would they want to do that. It would just take away attention from the TSX debut. Just not gonna happen. Maybe that's good. They have time to rethink "that grill" before showing us the TL

The RDX and the MDX were presented as the same time in NY. The TL was presented at NY 2003 as concept, when the 2gen TSX was just going on sale.
And the front grill IS the grill of the TL. It derived from the TL 2009 and put (who knows why) on the RL 2009. If you look at the spy shot of the TL summer 2007 you can see that grill already fixed on...

Yep, I remember the taped up grill. Now we know what's underneath it. I was just being funny when I said they had time to rethink it. I agree. This grill is here to stay (for at least a couple years)

I don't know if anybody realizes, but the new grill that's on the RL and TSX is the same grill from the Sports 4 Concept from a couple years ago. Nobody said the grill was ugly back then so why complain now? In fact, everybody loved the car and was hoping that it was the 4G TL. We all know Acura monitors this site, and I guess they took the feedback from our comments and decided that the Sports 4 grill was going to be the new standard Acura grill. If we said the grill was ugly back then, I don't think we would be dealing with this now. This is an excellent case of be careful of what you ask for, or really, what you DON'T ask for!

P.S. It looks fine on the TSX, but it doesn't look good on the RL at all .

Not everyone loved the Sports 4 concept, myself included. Also, most people don't get involved with the details on concepts as they know most of it never comes to fruition. I think most of the love for that car was the fact that it was a coupe...nobody was looking at the grille.

I totally agree. They really screwed up the MDX with that grill.

The new RL looks like an Accord with an ugly face.

^ Accord already has an ugly face.

After seeing the new Accord, RL, TSX, i've given up on the TL. Why would Acura bother uglifying only 70% of their lineup, rahter than just screw up their entire line (not to say thats a good thing). I'm moving on. My goal car is an S5. that is pure sex.

Very well said!

As disappointed everyone is that the TSX is not the Sports 4 Concept, it appears that the TL will be fairly close to it.

yes, the S5 is great... but is a coupe', not a sedan... at the moment Acura has not a coupe', after the dead RSX.

The new A4 (which looks alot like the A5) will be out soon.

I really like the new TSX, if the TL looks similar I think it will be fine.

So based on the new RL and TSX funky grill, the TL will most likely have it to, hmm. This will take some time to get use to. The new design of the RL is blah

yeah, i know, but it's still utterly amazing, and the 09 A4 will be similar, just with 4 doors.

I think if Acura brought back the CL for '09 (which I highly doubt), it would do well to compete with the A5, 328i and the 335i coupes, and the G37. Give it plenty of space, SH-AWD, not too heavy, sexy shape, and you have a winner, regardless of the price.

This reminds me of last weekend, while I was at the Acura booth at the CIAS, and this guy was talking to an Acura rep, saying "please bring back the CL yadayada" and then he's like "I still have an '05 CL, RWD, and a beautiful sounding turbo five, but i need something new yada yada" I was like

2009tl = Sports 4

I think the Next TL will have to look like the Sports 4 becuase the Acura RL and TSX stayed very close to its roots. If the next TL looks like the Sports with with SH-AWD and twin turbo V6 ( likey the Type S) then they are going to sell.

Now Acura REALLY better not F up the 4G. The competition has seriously stepped up their offering with a mid-model refresh.

^Yup...The competition is really getting up there....Acura can't afford to drop the ball

When the 3G first came out, I believe its biggest fear was the german sedans, as it was as good as the G35 sedan and better than the IS300 at the time. Now Lexus and Infiniti both stepped up their game BIG TIME, and with the new introduction of the G37 sedan with the new 7speed auto....

Meh....still doesn't do anything for me.

While the technical highlights are intriguing, the styling of that G37 doesn't excite me. Mind you, the new RL is just as bland IMO and the new TSX just looks "OK" nothing too revolutionary....I'm anxious/hesitant for the 4G TL.

Ok fellas, here is some interesting tidbit from a letter I got today. I'll type most of it out for you guys. Take it for what it's worth.... but I think something is brewing really soon. It's from Synovate Motoresearch, 7676 Hazard Center Dr., #1300 San Diego, Ca. 92108

Dear blah blah,

Automotive manufacturers are constantly changing and improving their products. One tool they use to help in their development is consumer research. Our research company has been commissioned by a major manufacturer to conduct an Automotive Evaluation among a select group of owners such as yourself.

If you still own and drive a 2007 Acura TL, this is an exciting and rare opportunity to see new and future vehicles. This is strictly a market research study where we rely on you to help guide the development of the vehicles of tomorrow.

We are inviting a select group of vehicle owners in the San Mateo area to evaluate newly designed vehicles between March 12th and 19th, 2008.

This study will take approximately 2.5 hours, and you will receive $125 in appreciation for your help.

Absolutely no attempt will be made to sell or promote a product at this event or future event................................
blah blah blah..........

The rest of the letter is not important. It's just a bunch of contact info etc etc.
I don't know if I could make it to this "event" due to work though.
