I beat him to the "see who can figure out WTF is going on with the white LED for the sidemarker mod?" fix, so I guess we'll see what happens. The crappy thing is I have a wedding rehearsal dinner to attend on Thursday, then some more wedding-related crap to do on Friday, then the actual wedding on Saturday. The tide may be turning in Kennedy's favor....

SteveP66, sent you the PM, you should be happy. I fully anticipate being able to send you the pieces by mid next week. That means I just have the '07 hood trim piece that has additional coloring to sell, 05TLRIDER did express interest in it.

^-- Alex had mention that he can add more color and get very dark coloring to it. First turning brownish and then black. I plan on ordering 2 rear A emblems from Tim and sending them to Alex to get the brown and then black levels that he had talked about. Alex has prices set for the work now, but I'm not sure if Ethan has talked to him about being a vendor yet so I'm not posting what those prices are.

Beyond that I'm playing with ideas. One of which is going the route you did.

Darksom, I can't believe that in just over 2 months we have 25 pages of posts, a new awesome bumper on your car, and a few other mods going on as I type.

This was a good thread that you started

You know we keep it real in "Grille County" sandiegodrive!!!

Plus, as you mentioned, we have more grilles on the way! People can come in here and shop for a new grille look and not settle for the generic look that sucks!

I thought that was a good idea to create a grille mod thread for display and DIY purposes only...so I did!

I gotcha on this one, if it shows this week.
Now that you've solved the sidemarker problem, I'll get after that soon.

Mildy... but to use Buda's photo:

The top is the OEM tinted one that Buda had "darkened". I plan to send Alex that piece in stock form and say "make all the pieces match, ... the best you can".

It looks pretty close there, so I'm not too worried about it.

Mine came today, but I just got home (9:20PM) and obviously I'm not gonna be able to do it tonight. If I can get an hour or two tomorrow (yeah right), I'd be stoked. Worst case scenario has me doing it Friday evening.

Found something interesting online today ..........Chrome Steel Mesh !!
It almost looks like black/dark chrome - I sent for a sample to see if it would be an option for my lower grills....!!

It's a little pricey I think $75.00 for a 12 x 48 inch sheet?

Unless you are putting that in the upper grille too, I think black looks best in lower grille.

I emailed to ask - it is regular chrome - silver & shiny - not as dark as the pictures. :-)

They do offer a black powder coated version - which from what I have read in the threads is better than canned spray paint - ? No chips, dings and flakes....right?

and yes it would be just the two lower grills - for now anyway.....

That's chrome... It looks black due to the black background.

Interesting, but expensive.

Did you guys look at the shiny aluminum mesh I used? I'm sure there's a "more open" aluminum mesh you could use that would be cheaper, and easier to work with...

The aluminum mesh looks good but I want black without having to use a can of spray paint....

Little less expensive if you go with black powdercoat - Here's the one I'm loooking at now:

High quality 6in. x 36in. & 12in. x 48in. mesh grill sheets. Made from 0.032 thick aluminum with an open area percentage around 68%. This mesh is ready for installation

Question - would the .032 thickness be tough to work with? (0.032 means nothing to me)

Aluminum will be a piece of cake with a good pair of tin snips...

ASM is a hard choice... Silver or Black. I almost lean towards silver mesh in all case except NBP.

I could do the aluminum but I'd rather go black and keep the focus on the new chrome grill - I think if I did them in silver it would draw too much attention down there. (for me anyway)

First of all this looks interesting. Keep me posted if you get this and from where. I'm was wanting to do some experimenting and the black powder coat version sounds like it will work quite well.

To give you an idea 1mm is approximately .04" so the thickness of this mesh is less than 1mm. That's definitely small. Makes me wonder how strong it is.

Thanks Buda - the site is called customcargrills.com - they guy there is super nice and answered my emails very quickly and with a lot of patience.

Once I get my sample kit - which was $5.00 and includes a 3 x 3 square of each type of mesh they offer I will post some pics.

I think I'm going with Black Powder Coat for its durability - just not sure what size or shape hole I want in the openings.

The powdercoat is ok as long as you don't live in the areas that get a lot of salt and snow.

Well MN definitely qualifies for that. However I don't know if I'll be living in this state for much longer so I may get lucky.

Anybody source maybe a black plastic mesh? Something like the 07s? It would eliminate the headache of painting/finishing. Just cut/trim and stick it in there, no maintence. But what type would look good and where to get it...

Yeah, but that looks and feels cheap on a car like ours. There is nothing wrong with painting aluminum as long as you use good paint. I did. PPLAPW's and Accuratein's cars have been going strong with no probs for a long time.

Using Clearbra with Modded Grille...

Can anyone give any insight on exactly how I should go about this? Not going to do it myself, but I think that these places that offer this stuff do so with pre-cuts for stock look. Also, if you get the clearbra, if it's pre-cut, does it cover the a-spec as well, or do places make you pay extra for that?
