OS4 stuff

I upgraded to my unlimited over the weekend even though I don't have a smartphone. I temporarily lost my v/m but when I get my iPhone on Thursday I already have ATT to call me and confirm I'm grandfathered in.

So I dials *639# to AT&T and got this message.

As a valued customer, we can offer you an upgrade with a new 2-yr commitment and an $18 upgrade fee.
does this mean I can get a 32GB for 299????????

the report says 2 year commitments will bring a $199.99 price for the 16GB and a $299.99 Price for the 32GB.
for new contracts or upgrades.

and to those upgrading to unlimited data before the close of it... most people never go over 2gb of data in a months time.

i think i've surfed 100 hours in a months time before and didnt even break 1GB.

i know it varies from person to person (using alot of video/audio streaming) but not the average person.

im speaking in terms of using data for mostly web browsing, email and some video/audio streaming..
if you use these excessively everyday you can most certainly break 2GB

I think Netflix will destroy my cap. I got one kid on the big screen with our DVR, one on the laptop, and my wife on the TV with the BD Netflix player. Goodbye bandwith!!!

The tethering option will cause me to loss my current data plan according to ATT reps. Such BS. If we still had an unlimited option, I could see the reason for the extra charge. But if I going to pay for 2 gigs, then I own 2 gigs every month and why does it matter how I use it?

The rep (BSing I think) said if I upgrade at a reduced price, I'll have a two year commitment and ALSO be on the new data plan. The only way to grandfather is to buy the phone at the no-commitment price... around $800.

I'm gonna wait another year and see what the next iPhone iteration will bring. I just found out about all these new features but I'm still not convinced its worth it for me, plus I'm completely against being an early adopter.... just more comfortable with waiting for all the kinks to be ironed out.

802.11n and that screen though.... damn

I will NEVER buy another iPhone so long as it is exclusive to AT&T. I had one back when I was working full time and the cell service was terrible. The customer service was even worse. I called them once because my Edge network service was cutting in and out but only on my iPhone. "It does that sometimes," they told me.

That's it? That's the best you can do?!?! AT&T will never see another penny from me. I the iPhone but I want to AT&T.

I don't know for certain, but from what I've read, if the iPhone were initially on Verizon, they'd probably have the same data issues. I remember reading something about how iPhone users accounted for like 70-80% of the TOTAL data usage on AT&T. Again, this is from memory and possibly a year or two ago.... but I do remember iPhone users being the main reason why AT&T has had network woes in recent years.

also not sure but my brother said tethering on Verizon is $60/month and some people are speculating that Verizon will probably follow AT&T in putting a cap on their data plans, no more unlimited usage.

AT&T is working to improve their network. And in my area, I've never had a problem, and if I did, it was in certain areas (in BFE and/or up in the mountains) and someone else with Verizon had issues too.

Hey Apple has unlimited bucks. Why don't they create their own network by buying a smaller one and expanding?

an interesting look at the data plans. I only broke the 200MB mark once since November 2009, and that was in April when I went to LA for a for days and didn't have access to Wifi. Its only been a few days into my current billing cycle (just went to LA again this past weekend) and I'm already at 100MB so I didn't drop it down to the 200MB plan yet but I don't see myself even plateauing 2GB, but I set it at that plan just in case. After this month I'm gonna drop it down to 200MB.

other months my data usage was 110 MB, 80 MB, 120 MB, 150 MB, 120 MB, 240 MB, 60 MB

also.... myWireless app lets you check your data usage. For some reason the data usage on the app is around 17 mb less than what it says my usage is on the AT&T website

Early adoptor??!? They're on their 4th generation phone already!

And what more features do you want???? For it to be worth it? With that mentality you'll be waiting forever.

anything could go wrong.... when the 3G first came out some people were having activation and network issues even though it was the 2nd generation. I've never had a problem like that, since I got my 3GS several months after it came out. Then the reports of people with white iPhones getting discolored backings, etc.

Not everyone has a shitload of disposable income and maybe some people want to be a little wiser with their investments? Oh wait, let me guess.... I probably shouldn't be buying an iPhone anyways then?

I'm just not the type of person to change their phones every 6 months or even earlier. Plus there's nothing about it that makes me gush into a state of fanboyism like "OMFG I HAVE TO HAVE IT HERE STEVE JOBS TAKE THIS SIGNED BLANK CHECK DO WHAT YOU MUST AS LONG AS YOU GIVE ME YOUR NEW DEVICE"

It's not just Apple either, Sony has had issues with a handset a while back that I was considering getting.... buttons cracking in half, screens going out, etc. Again, you never know.... I'd rather be safe since life will go on whether I have an iPhone 4 or not. I've never cared about having the first this or the first that.

I think if your contract was due to expire by the end of the year, you can upgrade at will.

i didnt know you had a 3GS.... i was under the assumption you didnt have an iphone.

and the issues with the 3G was because of the massive amount of people getting them..

im on a family plan right now with my whole family.

the only difference iirc, is you have to add data service to the line with the iphone

and text messages if you do those. but iirc its like $30 unlimited for the entire family plan.

just noticed in the promo video that they said the cover glass is laminated to the display.

so i guess the display is going back to how it was on the original iphone?
