Apple: iPhone News and Discussion Thread
Yeah blackra1n JB'd my 3GS with a tap of the screen. Thank god I jumped on the JB wagon when I did, heh.
Got a question if any of you guys are tethering. I'm planning on attemptin to tether my laptop since there's no way in hell I'm gonna pay $15 for half an hour of wifi or whatever. I searched around and found this website:

will that work? I'm on 3.1.2

Btw does anyone here have tmobile with their iphones?? I have a secret to share
alright. So my 3GS has been relatively problem free... until recently. I think something's wrong with my battery because my sister had a similar issue. On a road trip the last time I checked my 3GS the battery was at 55%. I locked it since I wasn't using it, and 3G, location services, basically everything non-essential was off. Half an hour to an hour later, I opened it up and the battery was at 10%
I recently uninstalled backgrounder.
I was like wtf? Guess I'm not using it for the rest of the trip.... but out of curiosity, half an hour later I checked it again and it was completely dead. If everything's on standby 10% should last me at least a couple of hours.
The thing is my sister's 3GS had an issue and so when she took it to the Genius Bar they found out there was an issue so they just gave her a new one. In preparation of me potentially needing to wipe the jailbreak and its evidence clean, what do I need to do?
mine's currently at ~60% right now.... if it's dead in the morning then I know something's wrong.

if this doesnt fix the battery issue, take it in and they'll replace ur phone with a refurbished one assuming you havent exceeded your 1 year warranty or if you have apple care
wierd, I didnt know jailbreaking could affect the battery.
You do not have to upgrade to 3.1.3, you can still restore it back to 3.1.2 and try jailbreaking again. If you do not know how to go back to 3.1.2 let me know I might be able to help

Jailbreaking doesn't. The jailbroken apps you install certainly can though.
If my GS battery is at 10% it will last about 20-30 min tops. If it's that low, I consider it dead. I charge the phone overnight daily, and also sometimes plug it in to USB at work. I usually don't have power issues with it, if I follow this schedule.

http://spiritjb.com/ - just ran it on my iphone 3gs with 3.1.3 and 5.12.1 Works good.
I thought appsync was one way? In the sense that it only allows you to drop .ipa files into iTunes and sync them to the phone, but AFAIK you're not able to download apps with Installous, install them on the phone and then sync them to iTunes. My cracked apps never showed up in my Applications tab in iTunes until I SSH'ed them out and physically put them into the Applications tab. I might be wrong, but it's what I noticed on my side.
Gonna keep notes here... I've avoided using 3G today and last night when I checked battery was at 65% around 12am. I didn't charge my phone at all since last night. Made a few short, 1-2 min. calls, sent a couple and received a couple of texts. With wifi on I checked safari and facebook for a few minutes. As I'm typing this it's at 44%. I even unintentionally had SSH on which is surprising. Tomorrow I'll try leaving 3G on since that's what I was using when my battery died all of a sudden, though I doubt it's why it did...
So now you guys know why I'm so confused about the battery life. Half an hour and half the battery was gone, basically. Before I JB'd the genius bar guy said I was getting excellent battery life

yea i need to start charging my phone at work again, i kill my battery by the end of the day.
yeah sbsettings really helped. Initially after JB my phone was dying pretty quickly. But with brightness, Bluetooth, wifi, 3G, location services all a tap away from toggling them off I think overall my battery lasts longer now.
I usually use Kirikae as my process killer, since it's only a double-tap of the home button away, in any screen.
In yet another part of Steve Jobs flawless plan he sent a next gen iPhone to some random dudes in the Vietnam and they did a complete tear down and discovered that the next iPhone will use an Apple A4 processor.

If so there's your problem right there. That thing drains batteries because it is constantly running. Thats why I'm not getting that drop down menu

From the video I can tell that it has an IPS screen that the iPad has, the viewing angles on the this screen are much better than my iPhone but the contrast and blacks aren't as dark as OLED.
