Check your ATT account online. They will let you upgrade annually if your monthly plan is high enough. 3GS is selling for $400-600 in my Craigslist. All most makes sense to buy the new phone outright.
if i get the new iphone, id probably keep the 3GS and unlock it.
and then retire my original 2G iphone and maybe install android 1.6 on it.

I forgot that my line is out of contract, and I can upgrade as soon as the new one comes out. I think that will be my plan.
And I'll probably keep my 3G and use it as a Touch. I'd give it to my wife, but she'd probably just lose it.

Another tid bit of credibility is an apple employee was supposedly fired for showing steve wozniack a 3G ipad when the wifi ipad launched...
Woz who is a co-founder and still an "employee" of apple...and the dude who showed it to him was fired but the guy who "forgot" his prototype iphone was not...
yeah....come on.

The stock is up due to strong earnings, not the upgraded iPhone that everyone knew was coming.
The 4G/HD is evolutionary, not revolutionary. By itself it is not going to significantly improve Apples sales in the near term.

One employee willfully broke the rules and another accidentaly did
correct!
Also Jason Chen's house got raided on Friday night by the po-po's. Since they bought a stolen phone and since they DID NOT buy it from Apple it's illegal and Apple is now getting the police involved. But don't believe it, it's just another part of Steve's flawless plan.

their stock rose cause of the story not cause of the greatness of the phone but the greatness of the story.

I was watching twit yesterday and they had the ABC tech reporter on and she actually went down to Jason's house and held the iPhone but he wouldn't let her take pics so that giz could have the exclusive.
Anyways she said without saying it 9since it was off the record) that Steve Jobs personally called Gizmodo when the story broke and threatened to get the police involved and now what do you know, they are involved.
The episode of TWiT isn't up online yet but when it does I'll put the relevant parts in this thread.

Last I saw, the dev team wasn't even going to bother. I know there's one JB out for it, but I haven't bothered upgrading.
I think I'll be there day one for 4G.
That is, if they've fixed the goddamn annoying ipod auto play 'feature'. It's getting worse by the day. Now it starts playing automatically when I plug my phone into the car and set it to either AUX or iPhone, when I unplug it, and even when I switch back to the radio and back for a minute.
Didn't do this shit a couple of months ago.

It switches to AUX/iPhone after you unplug it? Weird...
My iPhone has always started playing automatically though when I plugged it in. That's actually one thing I've liked about iPods/iPhones and radios with USB inputs.
Anyone download Navigon 1.5.0 through Installous recently? There are only two options and one of them (mediafire.com) uses 16 .rar files which I don't think the iPhone can open.... plus I don't know how 16 files is gonna work. The other one I can't download at all
I downloaded GPS drive just fine but I want to try Navigon.
Is there something I'm doing wrong? I tried googling but it seems like nobody had a problem d/ling through Installous. Do I have to download it to my computer first or something?

No, it will (the phone) start playing the iPod automatically after I unplug it from the dock connection, if I've been using WunderRadio. Didn't use to to that before, it's becoming quite an annoyance.

I just remember, when I got my 3GS last year... I did it through my sister's contract, because her's was up... I'm pretty sure I'll be eligible when the time comes... I'll just sell the 3GS
I don't get why so many people use screen protectors on iPhones, my screen is basically flawless without one. It's WAY better than any other phone I've used.
yeah I don't get screen protectors in general, not only does it detract from the quality (and performance) of the screen, its also unnecessary IMO - as long as you don't trash your shit. Take good care of it, keep your hands clean, and the screen will easily last long enough for you to get your next device.

And
@ srika...it in NO way impairs the performance of the screen. I've used them since my 1st gen.
I forgot, I have 3GS, doesn't it have some new smudge-free screen or something. I NEVER have to wipe it. Zero smudges, zero fingerprints.
and about the performance, I have used iphones with protectors before, the screens don't look as good as without. that's what I'm talking about.

And yes. The anti glare cuts down on contrast a bit. The blacks aren't deep black because of the loss of gloss. Not a big deal.
To be able to see my phone outside without issue is more important.
It looks fine with the one I had, no degradtion of IQ, just made it antiglare so it's not so damn shiny.
And I had no issues with dust, they just probably didn't put it on right.
And the 3GS screen still picks up smudges.

He wasn't talking about between the screen and screen protector. If I read him right he was talking about between the glass screen and LCD screen, more of an issue since the 3G since the screen isn't glued to the glass anymore like the original iPhone.
yup..between the LCD and the glass...I took it apart and removed the dust and so far so good.
people get dust underneath the glass itself?
for me a silicone case works just fine. No scratches or dust under the glass, and a nice grip and feel while holding/using it. Just wish it didn't attract so much lint. It would be nice if the iPhone just had a sort of tacky feeling outer shell... no need for a case then. I'm just afraid of it slipping out of my hand one day
