Apple: iPhone News and Discussion Thread
this is exactly why i didnt shell out the cash for the 3GS.. i just knew it was a short stepping stone that people woudl shell out 2-400 bucks for only to have a new one out in nearly a year.
i'll be ready for this new release, pending there are big changes.

Apple has released a new iphone annually since the beginning. This is nothing surprising.
interesting pic... what are the other tech sites showing? anymore pics? I am looking forward to a cdma (Sprint) iPhone... this summer...next fall????
With the 4G HTC Evo coming out this summer... I betcha HTC and Sprint are tryin not to bump heads with Apple on this new iPhone release... we will see....

I don't expect the next model to look like the current models since they haven't changed the design of the phone in two years.

i personally dont think the build quality screams high quality.
i mean look at the sides of the phone, it has seams in it. if it were apple, they would probably at the least do a unibody type design, like the ipad.
anyways moar pics.

A comment by the poster of the twitpic says
So the pic miz posted was taken in China presumably and engadget say their pics are from San Diego

To all those who are replying to me; I found this photo while doing a twitter search for "iPhone 4G", and found this pic and saved this photo from a pic uploaded by a chinese tweeter.

That is until one of the Engadget editors spotted what seems to be solid proof that this is -- in fact -- the next iPhone. If you'll recall, the night before the iPad was revealed, we had leaked shots of the device from what appeared to be an Apple test lab. Upon further inspection of these pictures today, the aforementioned editor discovered that the new iPhone 4G we've just gotten photos of is actually sitting on the table beside the iPad prototype! Imagine how blown our minds were when we realized we have had a photo of the next iPhone for months! As you can see in the pic above, the left side of the new device is clearly visible on this table in the upper right hand corner, and since we believe that these photos come directly from an Apple testbed, it's hard to deny that the phone you've just seen is in fact the real deal. Not only that, but we suspect that the device on the tablet itself is also a version of the new phone (you can see what looks like aluminum along the bottom) which seems to be housed in some type of iPhone 3G-like case.
Additionally, a source -- who confirms this is the next Apple iPhone -- also tells us that the device apparently does have a higher res screen on-board, a front-facing camera, a higher resolution camera with flash, and takes MicroSIM cards (that's the little "button" around the side you see in the TwitPic which is floating around the internet).

Engadget has the exclusive on this and I guess they're supposed to be getting more details. Probably have to pay the guy. make me wonder what back room deals are going on. I remember a few years ago something I did went popular on Gizmodo and they wanted an exclusive on it, etc and brian lam was doing a sort of email interview with me. I couldn't really oblige them since I had to go to work that morning but by the time I got back home that night the story had peaked and they had moved on and didn't care anymore.
It should have the same 1GHz 45nm A4 processor that the iPad has. The 3GS was 65nm and the 3G was 90nm! Next year it'll be 32nm and after that probably 22nm. OMG this shit is getting SOOOO good!
Just imagining how sick nasty these phones are going to be in two years is giving me wood!
Seriously, the kickass future that you see in movies is only like two years away! We're just starting to get a hint of it now with todays processors. In two years chips are going to be sooo powerful and yet very power effiecient they're gonna run all fuckin day and kickass. Like these new MBPs that get like 8-10hrs battery life yet have badass processors in them or the iPad and it's wicked fast processor paired with a battery that just don't quit! Oh and OLED screens are gonna be the shit in two years too! That means thinner devices, even better battery life and a fuckin perfect screen! They're already making tech to make OLED screens more visible in daylight and it's only going to get better!

Sorry, I like to dream sometimes!

what makes the ipad great is that it runs a lightweight mobile OS (compared to full OS X or windows) so not much load on the processor but they paired it with a huge battery since they had the room and therefore it can just sip power. Dont expect the next iPhone to have the same battery life, it should be better but not that good.
you should get better battery life with this model since the CPU is manufactured at a smaller process. I'm sure other parts may be shrunk as well. The smaller the manufacturing process the more powerful and power efficient it can be. Today's tech can do the same job in the same amount of time as yesterdays tech using much less power or it can do the same job much faster while using the same or less power.

but i dont know, i would have to see if the OS is any different than iphone OS4 that i could upgrade my 3GS to. what i mean is additional stuff that wouldnt be possible on the older model, that i would actually use.
AHAHAHAHA!!! So gizmodo hasn't touched this engadget iPhone 4 story at all this weekend but now out of nowhere they have the device IN THEIR HANDS! Seems like the some how beat engadget to the hands-on exclusive! This is definitely the device! Steve Jobs has to be soooo fuckin pissed right now! That guy that lost the device is going to be forced to commit suicide! That mother fucker is screwed!!! I noticed that the next version has what appears to be a mic next to the headphone port. It still has a mic at the bottom so it should have noise cancellation like the Nexus one

that's not very apple like.
my question is how much did the guy who found this iPhone in the bar charge Gizmodo to hand over the device. You know both Engadget and Giz where bidding to get the hands on exclusive. They should make an iBook about this backstory cause I bet it's good. my guess is $100,000.
