Apple: iPhone News and Discussion Thread
So what does Apple do now? I haven't seen any c&d orders yet? How does steve come on stage at WWDC in June and announce this device when everyone has already seen it and know all the inner parts of it? They might as well just issue a press release and announce the device like they did the MBPs. Just take the store down for a while and when they come back it'll be there. This is the biggest story Giz has ever landed, getting the most popular gadget months before hand from the hands of the most secretive company. I wonder Apple will snub them from now on? LOL they'll be kicked out of CES and all Apple events, haha that would SUCK!
that is the least likely explanation.
you should read these articles for a glimpse into how seriously Apple takes secrecy.

And there in lies the point.
Its not apple like...but apple has such enormous and strict policies in place and there have been a lot of "leaks" as of late, starting with the ipad.
I think Apple is aware of the competition and they are controlling the leaks to keep in the headlines while generating interest.
The guys running that company arent stupid.

The ipad and many internals were leaked prior to the ipad announcement.
It generates hype. It makes the fans and freak go even more apeshit when jobs is up and there confirms it.
Job is a salesman, and a genius one at that.
You are looking at this from the completely wrong angle.

Last year people are killing themselves out of fear cause they fucked up now this year Apple's just giving the iPhone away in an attempt to stay relevant and in the news? The Apple rumor mill is like no other, it runs off of it's own energy, it doesn't need fuel from Apple to get going. If anything info leaked from apple is intentionally misinformation which they use to track down the leaks in their company. Read the articles I posted, you should already know this stuff.

If Apple truly has gestapo-like security, I believe that this is more of an intentional plant than not. Unless, Steve Jobs himself was getting smashed at that bar
That being said, if it is a plant, then the iPhone 4G might be better looking, but not as feature-rich in comparison.

Personally, I think someone saw potential to make a lot of money by selling a prototype to Giz/Engadget.
Only thing is, I can't imagine the final 4G iPhone looking like that. I personally think it looks cool, but I doesn't fit with Apple's styling direction, at least not in an obvious way that I see.
I stated, I think Apple leaked it. You asked if I think they leaked misinformation to which I replied that is also possible.
I'm not giving a definitive answer because the fact is no one knows except Apple.
Simple.
yeah i dont see it as an iphone either. but, it does look more like the ipad's design, in that its squared off. maybe they want to go in that direction?
Steve Jobs big thing is the element of surprise, while people may have expected the original iPhone announcement at macworld 2007 there were no spy shots, no one knew what it was going to look like and that show shocked the world. That's how steve wants it. What fun is opening presents on Christmas morning if you snuck in your parents closet and found all the presents a week earlier. Trust me, Christmas is no fun when you know what you're getting.

Uh, no. this isn't a leak. A leak is a tidbit of info here or there like something about screen resolution, rumors of a front facing camera, maybe say it has an OLED screen. That's a leak just a little bit of info. This is a fucking flood, all the info is out. It's over. There will be no hype, no build up in June about what the device will be. Everyone already nows. That's like giving away the ending to a TV show series finale. There's no tune in to find out what happens, everyone already know now cause you told us everyone dies at the end. they might say tune in next week where someone dies, they don't say next week joe schmoe dies from a bullet to the head shot by jane doe.

Your links on Apple's secrecy don't lead me to believe this is a possibility.
Steve Jobs getting wasted in this bar, forgetting his 4G iPhone? What's the deal?
They do actually test the device in real world usage before releasing it. All testing isn't done solely in Apple Headquarters in Cupertino, they do release the product all over the world.

This is the case it was in. The case is made to make it look round like a 3GS and therefore not attract attention. You'd have to look closely to see the front facing camera.
Obivously someone fucked up big time or doesn't like his job or has a huge gambling bet to pay off. Either way this device was not given to Giz with Apple's official permission.

All you know right now is that it potentially confirms rumors we have been hearing for nearly a year now.
PS...lots of ipad photos and info was leaked prior to its announcement, there was no less wow factor at the unveiling because of it.
open your damn eyes and see the other side of the coin.
those are blurry photos just a couple days before the announcement. This is an actual device months before an announcement. There's a HUGE difference. Why would apple want to release a non finished product to a website so that millions of people can base their opinion on an unfinished product?

I'm not even going to try to argue this with you. That is the most ridiculous thing you've ever said.
